If you've ever struggled with the BlackBerry keyboard either being too slow or too fast, there is a simple solution. Thankfully buried in the settings is the Key Rate option that allows you to raise or lower the speed of the keyboard. Depending on your device and/or OS, you may find that you often make typos when typing too fast and want to slow things down, or you're just a typing wizard and need the keboard to keep up with your magical fingers. Whatever your case may be, you can easily change the key rate on your BlackBerry. Keep reading to find out how.

How to change the key rate on your BlackBerry Smartphone

To find the key rate option, head to Options > Typing and Language > Keyboard

Key Rate Settings

Here you'll see a few options, one of which is Key Rate. Click the dropdown and you can choose from Slow, Medium Slow, Normal (default), Medium Fast or Fast. Depending on what you're trying to accomplish there should be a setting that suits you. I keep mine set at Medium Slow most times and I rarely have many typos (and I still type pretty fast). Play around and see what works best for you!

I hope this fixes the common double letter typo that I encounter. I figured my bold 9900 keyboard was wearing out but maybe my typing was just too fast ;)

HHey Adam Dm_7 has just been released officially.

CrackBerryDoctor

Thanks! I just moved mine to medium slow. No more errors!

I've played around with these settings on my 9860 for a while now, but with no improvement in my typing. I think the plastic screen makes typing on the Torches very inconsistent and prone to errors when there is a temperature change in fingers/ screen.

My 9850 makes me nuts. Sometimes I can type effortlessly, but when my hands are SLIGHTLY cold ... or sometimes I don't even know why .... I have literally given up trying to send a short text and gone to my PlayBook(Anyone think it might be CrunchSMS on the 9850?). Other than that I love the device. That is the only complaint. So much so, that even tho I have always been a touchscreen person I might wait for the BB10 device with the physical keyboard. Don't know, tho, since I really do enjoy the keyboards on my PBs.

Thanks for the info! Didn't even know about this.

I've had mine set to fast for a while now....

Wow. This is great. My phone has been set to normal (default settings) now I increased it to FAST. Awesome fast typing speed. Love it.

i don't see a difference. I don't know, I'm new to BB so maybe that's why. : /
