HootSuite for BlackBerry released - download the free public beta

HootSuite for BlackBerry has finally been released in beta form to the public. It was back in July that it was first announced and users were asked at that time to sign up for the beta. Now today, Hootsuite is sending out notifications that the application has indeed gone into public beta and is now available for download. If you've signed up for the beta you should get a link soon and if not, well then you can just use the link below to get started. Keep in mind though if you download, it is a beta and you should file feedback with any concerns you have so that the Hootsuite folks are aware of it and can improve the app over time.

Downloaded and deleted. First impressions of it are not good.

Sounds like my experience. Downloaded, created an account, and found bare-bones options and a bare-bones UI. This app looks like a BlackBerry app from 2005. SocialScope crushes this. Even the native Facebook, Twitter, and Social Feeds apps crush this. Sorry to say, it did not last long on my device.

Not much there. Not what I expected. Seems more like an alpha than a beta if you ask me. Hopefully they will continue to update it and add all the cool features that much of the other twitter apps have. It needs a ton of work.

Considering this was raved about a while a go by the Crackberry team, I am a little disappointed. Without wanting to moan too much about a free app still in beta, it is clunky as anything. I mean it worked slightly better after a reboot but still crawls along on my 9700 even over wi fi. Ah well, back to the RIM apps I guess. These guys should check out Gravity on Symbian. Now that's how to write a social media app.
Bla1ze Oct 18, 2010 at 4:59 pm
How was it raved about? No one had it to say it was good or bad. We only ever did 2 posts about it before this one.

My mistake. Maybe I got mixed up with Socialscope. No disrespect.

Got HootSuite app up and running. Set up my HootSuite account from my BB and tried to add my Facebook and Twitter accounts, giving me an error message and no way to exit the app. I went to the HootSuite site and set up my other accounts there. Rebooting my BB and seeing if it works. Got my fingers crossed.

I can't connect my facebook.
Facebook has a lot of security around it I don't know if they neglected to talk to facebook and work around this or work through there security same thing happened with IM+ but they fixed it.
OH and yea I can't exit either.
shinematt Oct 18, 2010 at 5:02 pm
Oh my god this app is soooo bad...
The design is not that great, the layout is just too complicated, and well if I have to go back to switch between my facebook and twitter accounts, I might as well use the official Twitter and Facebook apps, they are better and work exactly the same way.
Plus you don't have that many options in the settings...
I'm so going to stick with SocialScope for a while.
BUT if you don't have access to Social Scope, you could use this one, it's the same, only waaaaaaay worse.
But it's still in BETA so, we'll see ;)
demeanor76 Oct 18, 2010 at 5:22 pm
Yeh, I think I'll stick with my SocialScope for now.. Hopefully HootSuite fixes the glitches, yehh..
teddyp6 Oct 18, 2010 at 5:24 pm
Just like others that posted before me, I downloaded and it won't let me add my twitter and facebook accounts. I guess I will try to do it from my home computer when I get home. If not, it shall be deleted.
thornburg24 Oct 18, 2010 at 5:26 pm
Was excited about this app getting released. Went and downloaded the second I got the email. It did bog down my phone quite a bit. I was able to add my twitter but not Facebook. I am sure these are issues that will be worked out. It is still in beta and only been available an hour or so. I will definatly keep checking back and looking foward to some improvements. But for now I will stick with Social Scope
swagg232 Oct 18, 2010 at 5:38 pm
Its okay! A little slow, I already deleted ubertwitter so hopefully I can manage with this. I can't reboot anymore its annoying.
imsorowdy08 Oct 18, 2010 at 5:49 pm
very bad lags very bad layout is all ran together this app is a fail for me!!!
iSuni Oct 18, 2010 at 6:28 pm
Lasted less than 10 minutes on my Blackberry, in the end it froze my phone - totally lagged out and had to reboot to delete.
Would stay away until a more stable version is released.
tshepomk Oct 18, 2010 at 7:12 pm

AgentScribe Oct 18, 2010 at 10:22 pm
I'm on the Torch.
I was able to add three twitter accounts (@porc411 @TheShuttChute @AgentScribe) but navigating in/around them proves frustrating at best. I've pulled the battery thrice now and it is still laggy.
Facebook was a weird experience. Like others, I couldn't seem to add my acount despite numerous password attempts.
Then, I noticed a link called "touch" and, well, I touched it.
It brought up an argumentably better FB UI in appearance, but it was terribly slow.
I will keep HootSuite on board for a week, hoping for an update. Otherwise, I'll have to nix it.
Time to send all this to the developers and to keep my fingers crossed.

Apparently, I knew so little about HootSuite that putting the app on my 9800 and signing up for an account via the app might have somewhat bassackwards.
Having spent some time on the Web on my Mac with HootSuite, it appears to be a tweetdeck type management system for social networking which includes MySpace, FB, FourSquare, twitter and other.
Having successfully added my FB account via the desktop, I'm interested to see if another re-boot will bring my FB into the BB HootSuite app any better.
Hootsuite has some neat features, such as scheduled tweets and tweeting RSS feeds, but there's more features available at a premium.
Wandering_Sumo Oct 18, 2010 at 10:34 pm
I have Hootsuite running on my Torch, but I'm already back to using Ubertwitter.
I really like the fact that I can see multiple Twitter accounts without going into the menu to change accounts, but that's not enough to keep me using Hootsuite.
A minor problem is that messages don't fit the screen, some of the words run off the display, and the display doesn't shift when I turn the Torch to a horizontal format. I'll admit that I didn't do a battery pull and that might fix those two issues.
But, that white text on a green background is just a deal-breaker for me. I'm just not willing to make an effort to read that when other apps are much easier to read.

No dice here. Cannot even authenticate my account using my hootsuite credentials.
Stays in "importing your account" forever (gave up after 1hr in this state) without progress.
Deleting App for now as I cannot even get INTO the darn thing to TRY beta testing it. LoL

I didn't know what Hootsuite was so I googled it first, got onto the website, signed up, added my acccounts where I had to "allow" Hootsuite access to my twitter, FB & Foursquare accounts, then I downloaded the app onto my 9700 and when I signed in, it automatically loaded all my accounts. SO for everyone having trouble loading some of their accounts, your best bet is probably doing it all online first.
As far as the App goes, it is SOOO slow. And nothing is coming up under my Foursquare tab. I use SocialScope which I love and using this app just makes me appreciate SS more. As far as I saw on the website, there seems to be a lot more to HootSuite than social networking so maybe it will be a lot more valuable to certain people, but its definitely not an app for me.

Well, I've been waiting for MONTHS for socialscope, so I thought when I got this email yesterday I would try it out. ITS AWFUL!!! It was sooo slow, dragged my OS down too much, so I deleted it. Ill use my UberTwitter and regular Facebook apps until I can "someday" get the SocialScope invite! LOL
paula.walla Oct 19, 2010 at 9:57 am
This made my phone work incredibly slow. Back to Uber Twitter:)
Rolandh Oct 19, 2010 at 12:00 pm
I've downloaded and not to impressed, added all my Accounts online and its only imported my twitter account and ignored my fb, Linkedin and MySpace accounts. I think I'll stick to the separate apps and patiently wait for SS.

I installed and quickly deleted it! I tried sending a tweet to test and it hung up. Not a good first impression.

Hootsuite is a complete #fail. LOL. This app allows the addition of your Twitter accounts, but that's it. I'm on a Torch and everytime I try to add my facebook acct, complete fail. enter password, refresh, enter password...and on and on...
Dear Hootsuite: if you're going to release an Beta app for BlackBerry, make sure the basics of what you're offering works.

As pretty much everyone else has already said so far, i downloaded this and at the same time started tinkering with the web version. Web version looked promising, so i was surprised to find the BB app to be appalling. Tried a battery pull, no luck. Had managed to add facebook, twitter, foursquare and even myspace (which nobody including myself ever use anyway) on the web version and all was working fine but the BB app only showed my twitter and facebook accounts and poorly at that! have now tried to get in on social scope but got an e-mail saying i'm probably in for a long wait. oh well, sh*t happens i suppose.
