I always want this. I had Beejive, but no longer use it as it doesn't have Skype and search contact (I have quite long contact list). Have asked them many times to add it in new version, but wait hopelessly. Just try the IM+ beta version and seems to work great.

i had this app for years and it's great. now i have the curve 9360 os7. this app is the main cause for my battery drain. my 9360 can last about 2days but with this app running, my phone cannot stay alive for more than 5 hours. i hope i am helping someone out there.

I have little to no experience with IM and dedicated IM apps. What I started using recently on my PlayBook is TweetDeck over the web. Really nice, three columns in landscape and it's easy enough to page through groups of columns. DM's are threaded and I can keep up to date and categorize other tweets of interest, @CrackBerry, as I wait for the next DM. (That's how I learned about this latest giveaway - Sweet.) As always, 140 characters is a pain and if you go over using tweetdeck on the playbook you can't go back and edit and send. The poll time using twitter isn't unreasonable and discourages the fast back and forth gibberish characteristic of IM.
I'm currently chatting, via twitter DMs with my son vacationing in Columbia. Too much overhead with Skype, Mac 2 Mac. I monitor his public tweets on what he's up to and get the occasional DM - very nice.
I would mainly be interested in IM+ Pro to break the 140 character limit and send and hopefully receive some meaningful communication.
I picked up my second 32g playbook today, Boxing Day. Yes, I already made the mistake and DM'd my son. Easy come, easy go. TNX, ShapeServices & CrackBerry.

This would complete my PlayBook! I'm disappointed in the lack of official IM clients, I wish Skype, Yahoo etc would get their acts together! It's not RIM's fault, it's out of their control, but annoying none the less.
