After being in beta for a while and going through a hurdle or two to get BlackBerry World approval, Snap2Chat was finally made available to the public in April 2014. The third party SnapChat app had been wanted by many and while the Android port was suffice enough for some, you can't beat the a BlackBerry 10 native app. Joining the likes of iGrann and Whine, Snap2Chat is a welcome addition to BlackBerry 10.

In CrackBerry fashion we bring you a review of Snap2Chat, comparing it to the Android port. There are many similarities but the full version of Snap2Chat which was the version that many tested out during its beta period has some extras that are not found in the official SnapChat app.

Exclusive features of Snap2Chat

  • Snap2Chat presents a whole new way to communicate with other Snap2Chat users
  • The Shoutbox! 'Shout' in the Shoutbox and other Snap2Chat users will be able to like and comment on your 'shouts'! Also add friends from the Shoutbox!
  • Customize your app! Select any color for the title bar and choose between a light and dark theme for the whole app.
  • Customize your snap! Use BlackBerry® 10's built in photo editor to edit your snaps. Also choose from a variety of font types of sizes.
  • Unlimited text in captions! Snap2Chat offers the flexibility to write captions longer than one line.
  • Edit your profile
  • View stories individually
  • See your feed in the active frame
  • Invite friends via SMS, Facebook, Twitter and other social networks - Set a refresh interval
  • Take a screenshot without the sender finding out!

These are all things you will find in the full Snap2Chat app. In Snap2Chat Lite, there are some features that you won't get, like being able to use the BlackBerry 10 photo editor or receive notifications but you'll still be able to get all the regular features you would with the official SnapChat app. Note, that when I say "Official" I mean the Android port, which isn't available via BlackBerry World.

Check out the video above to see Snap2Chat in action. If you haven't downloaded it yet, check it out today. The full version of Snap2Chat is still currently on sale for $0.99. The full price is $1.99 and it's available for all BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

Hands-on with Snap2Chat for BlackBerry 10

Mr Nemory,

I purchased your app on my Z30 but when I go to download it on my Q5 it still is making me pay. Is this by design? Charging me separate times for using it on a separate device?

Posted via CB10

I hope you realise this app breaches SnapChat ToS yet BlackBerry still approved it when they said they wouldn't.

It's no wonder you get charged twice by an app whose dev cares little about security.

Lol... Snapchat devs had many security breaches themselves... don't act like they care about security either...

Agreed! I hope it does back fire. I can see an issue arising if it gets really popular

BlackBerry IDs can only be used in 1 device. Your z30 must have a different BlackBerry ID than your Q5. In order to get it to both you really have to pay for 2

Posted via CB10

You are mistaken, the same blackberry id can be used multiple devices.

Classifieds Canada and GeoYeo App all the way!!!

I'd like to think that he got it slightly confused with the Blackberry Pin, as those are unique for each single device. But I'm fairly confident that one BBID could be shared among separate blackberry devices

I've a Z10 and Playbook, for the apps (not too many) that are available within each respective appstores, I'm usually able to get them

Posted via CB10

Oh! I guess you guys are saying the guy who made the app doesn't know what he's talking about?!? Nemory, love the app. Idgaf about the ToS. Jail broken ios devices do the same thing so I doubt there's much of a breach. Anyways paid for it and loved it. All my friends on it now

Finally posted from my BlackBerry Z30

A Blackberry ID can be used on multiple devices, however some BlackBerry services (BBM) will only work on one of the devices.

If you own two separate cars, you have to pay registration on both and insurance too.

But u can only drive one at a time.

Come on, he put a lot of work into this app. He is very active and really listens and replies to bugs and complaints.

A take a snapshot while you chat!

And and can (should) only be seen for a ahem, snap ... second(s)...

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

Each time I open the app, it acts like it's loading and then closes down abruptly. I deleted and reinstalled the app and am having the same issue... Anyone else have this issue?

Posted via CB10

Really sorry guys, it has been a common issue since rhe update I'll be publishing a beta in Beta Zone later with Hub Integration and the fix to the no loading. To prevent crashing, if you ever get inside the app again please go to advanced settings and disable enhanced video recorder

I am not a fan of this app, I have however managed to purchase it and seen the hard work the developers put into it. Its totally awesome.

Posted via CB10

Not really. Had no interest in Snapchat, out of respect/appreciation of a hardworking dev gave it a try and was impressed.

Yes, let's get the new features updated. It's the reason I just purchased the app for the reduced price. These new features will make it more usable for me.

Hopefully the dev plans to add support for the new features snapchat added very recently. Very good app though.

I'm not a Snap Chat user or fan, but I bought it just to support the developer. It's good to see such great efforts put into having the big name apps natively in BlackBerry World

Same here. My kids use it though. I usually use text or BBM. I bought it for me and the kids just to support the dev.

Idk if it's good to buy just to support dev. I guess if you can afford it. I only buy when I know I'll use the app.. speaking of which I'm loving the headless integration

"A penny saved is a penny earned." 99 pennies isn't a whole lot, but if one drop that much many times, they add up. I think that's the point. I sure wouldn't drop a dollar for an app just support a dev. I worked hard even for that dollar and I want to put it to use in something I find value in.

Of course, someone else will find value in simply supporting a dev which I actually like. I spent about 6 months on Android and don't think I've seen anyone say they bought an app just to support a dev. But, I've seen this happen multiple times on BlackBerry. Maybe that's a difference between us BlackBerry folk and everyone else.

Nifty Foods! C003262E5

There were plenty of pirated Android apps in BlackBerry World when BB10 launched.

Where you have an app store, you'll always have piracy. No platform is immune.

I will gladly pay the 99 cents to support the developer for the following reason. He has stepped up to the plate and created a very good quality native BB10 app for SnapChat, when nobody else bothered.

I'm loving these debates surrounding $0.99. I can't even fathom why such an issue exists, but to each their own I reckon.

Posted via CB10

Purchased the app even though I don't really use snapchat, seems to work great. One nice thing is I don't get the Google play services pop up I did with the android version. Thanks to the developer.

Posted via CB10

Sure, the notifications and customization options are great but it's the battery efficiency (as compared to the Android apk) that make this worth every penny for me!

Had issue with app working after headless update, similar to others. Uninstalled, then reinstalled app and works great now. Just an FYI if anyone else is having issues.

AT&T Blackberry Z10

Mmmm...hope BlackBerry knows what it's doing by approving this app.

Posted via CB10 running on Z10STL100-1/10.2.1.2228

Mmmm, hope it doesn't come back to bite them. Surprised that CrackBerry actual did a review.

Posted via CB10 running on Z10STL100-1/10.2.1.2228

CJH_, do not come in here pretending BlackBerry is some evil, wrongdoing outlier. There is no shortage of Snapchat apps for iPhone and Android to use. In fact, I would argue those are worse for Snapchat because they are in direct competition with the official app available in their app ecosystems. There is no official Snapchat in BlackBerry World so how does this app hurt them?

Posted with my BlackBerry Q10.

Weird, so they are not policing it, but they could. Does the ToS state any action that's going to be taken in case of a breach?

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

I have had the app for a couple days. It has used more battery sitting idle with no snaps today at all then Bbm which has sent and received 100 messages. This headless might be a battery hogg. Just might have to disable headless as I don't use it enough. Great app though.

Posted via CB10

Fort to add. Bbm 2.5%, snap to chat 3.5, I know it's not a lot but UT hasn't been used at all.

Bro. Battery drain relies to your settings, try setting the refresh interval to something like 120 :)

Posted via CB10

300 is better with less drain. I think that should have been your default setting instead of 60 to avoid the much complaints about this battery issue. I blame you for that bro, though I get no battery drain :)

Z10STL100-1/10.2.1.2234 "the iPhone Nemesis"

I wonder if this developer will start to add the new text and video features that SnapChap announced on May 1...

I really will do my best to sniff the new API to implement the new Chat Feature :) :)

Posted via CB10

Is it not possible to add captions to videos in snap2chat? My wife says she can do it in the regular Snapchat but I've been unable to find a way to add captions to videos...

Posted via CB10

nice one keep up the good work i hope blackberry are listening to the customers and giving us all what we want but deffo keep up the goo work m8 nic one hope it does well :)

People complain the blackberry app world doesn't have certain apps. Then someone like Nemory works hard to fill a small part of the app divide and people complain about that too. It's impossible to win these days.

Keep up the good work, dude. Ignore the negative attention seekers.
