So does the playbook use Gorilla Glass? What about shock resistance? Most folks dont bend their device screens to breaking point.

This is a useless news to RIM company because if RIM can't buy the company that makes Gorilla Glass, they won't use it on their BlackBerry phones. Dumb and stupid.

However, the Gorilla Glass can be damaged with sand which is NOT publish by the company and hide it under the rug. Why this is important? Yes, because some think that they don't have to use screen protectors if they have this glass. I think Gorilla Glass adds value to the device to give a bit more durability compared to others.

Screen protectors are a plus for any phone where the screen isn't hidden (non-flip phones). Those who don't use one thinking their phone will never get damaged or scratched are the ones complaining about it.

Heck, I even ensured my 9900 won't get damaged by putting a screen protector on it. When not using it, the darn thing is holstered. I don't want it damaged.

Even if RIM doesn't purchase gorilla glass, the company, they could still use it on their blackberries. Maybe somebody will come up with a bendable glass or super tough plastic screen protector for any screen. LCD displays need those more, including those of laptops, tablets, netbooks and Televisions. How many get broken each year when beer or toys are thrown at them. Possibly 100k's. Just my two sense. Holster it, get a screen protector, a case, or risk it getting damaged if not cared for properly.

20%? so that is probably 0.5mm at most. Probably taking off a few grams at most of weight. No one cares.

it is 0.2mm and device manufacturers will care.

I don't know much about glass, but I would imagine that a thinner glass would give much better touch response and the colors could penetrate easier, making for a better picture. Having an insured phone makes me care more about scratches than breaks though.
