Instagram Update
By James Richardson on 4 Jun 2014 10:09 am EDT

It may be an Android app and not available in BlackBerry World, but that doesn't stop us BlackBerry 10 folk from using it. Instagram has been updated to include a bunch of new photo editing tools and enhancements which you can download from the Android app store of your choice.

I'm a big fan of using Snap for my Android apps and this new version is there waiting for you to download. You'll need to delete the current version you have on your BlackBerry 10 device first and then installation only takes a minute or so.

New in version 6.0.1:

  • Double-tap on filters to adjust the filter strength
  • Perfect your composition with Adjust and Vignette
  • Enrich colors with Warmth and Saturation
  • Adjust lights and darks with Brightness, Contrast, Highlights and Shadows
  • Make your photos crisp and clear with sharpen.

Other updates:

  • It's now easier to upload and share videos (I've not tested this yet on BB10)
  • Improved design and bug fixes

Let us know what you think of the new version in the comments?

Love BlackBerry 10 ui and the ability to run android apps
Hope BlackBerry make android apps run as smooth as possible

BlackBerry and android experience unparalleled hahaha ~

FYI.. if you had it installed. Just hitting "Update" works. I tried through Snap and it works as expected.

Posted via CB10

I agree. I just hit update in Snap and it installed. I was wondering why the writer suggested that the earlier installation should be deleted first.

Posted via CB10

Yeah, you need to normal do that if you had an Android app installed, and then a BB10 native version comes out.

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

InGrann is good for looking at the photos but this Android version is very good. Much more processing control.

Posted via CB10

Igrann is a client so no wonder it hasn't the filter.. it's something you have to create first I don't think it's free for 3rd party app developers...

Visit my Channel C00121417  △

I support the use of IGrann and would never encourage anyone to delete it in favor of Instagram, but for heavy users who really need all the features the Android app is one of the better performing ones out there. Almost completely lag free and bug free on my Z30, performing like a properly tested Android port in BBW.

Besides, if you ever see Instagram on BBW (highly doubtful) it would definitely be an Android port, which is no different from what it would be today if you installed it through Snap or Amazon.

exactly, this IG 6.0 basically includes the whole photo editing software that BB10 has, which is easily accessible from iGrann except the filters. once iGrann got IG's filters i think it's the HEAVEN!

I don't like to see android apps being promoted when there is a native BlackBerry version. Support iGrann! Support our native developers!

Posted via CB10

I've got iGrann. But as I mentioned, it hasn't got all the options/filters.
That's what I use on my Q. It's an option, but not as full featured.

Posted from my awesome Q10 via CB10.

Are these "official" Instagram filters really this superior? Or is it strictly too inconvenient to take a photo, apply a filter and share it to iGrann from the stock camera app or even a 3rd party photo editing app like Effetica Pro? I see many good and more options through BB10s great interoperability across all apps.

Have to agree. Especially after the update to 10.2 the native filters took a big step backwards and became worse rather than better. Never understood why BlackBerry made those changes.

Posted via CB10

Igrann isn't that good and it never gets updated, Instagram has more features and it's possibly the smoothest apk to run on BlackBerry 10.

Posted via CB10

An the official Instagram is really adding and improving lots in the latest versions, especially this one. Getting more manual control over the filters.

One app that I really wish was available for Blackberry and/Android is Hipstamatic. It's really nice once, you get it figured out, for creating quite nice 'retro' /atmospheric images.

IGrann has been updated twice since it rolled out. How fast are you looking the Dev to update?

From my Neutrino Powered Z10

Yeah, I second this. What are you doing guys? Is this BlackBerry or Android? In get it, our app portfolio is weak. However we have had dedicated developers who invested a lot of time and effort to develop native clients for many of the popular services. Instead of promoting them, they are sidelined and emphasis is put on the latest and greatest Android app.

Posted via CB10

Who just updated.. IGrann or the official Instagram app? Exactly so they're doing an article that's relevant. You think when IGrann updates again they are going to just what; ignore it? Cmon, think before you get all fan boy on us. I love BB10 over any other platform but I'm going to use the superior software whether it's native or and apk. It doesn't matter to me. The android version of Instagram is always going to be the superior version for the foreseeable future. I support IGran and I use it but not nearly as much as "Instagram" itself.

Posted via CB10

Great news for those who use it, but alas... my food will continue to go unfiltered and will not be uploaded to the Internet for all to see.

Posted via CB10

Home of the narcissistic selfie. No use for it. Square crappy pics. Bah humbug.

From my Neutrino Powered Z10

It's always good to have a choice. I played around with it a bit yesterday so that I will be able to voice the functions of the app to others. I'm not much of the social site type.

Posted via CB10

I hate the mandatory 1:1 aspect ratio in Instagram that crops my beautiful pictures for no reasons. Hopefully, iGrann can tweak it and allow us to upload 16:9.

Pretty sure that you don't need to delete the old version before you install the new

Posted via CB10

Why does the current version need to be deleted before the update can be done? I've always just updated the current version and had no problems :s

You don't have to delete it, but the old version will sit in the download folder of your internal memory taking up space. So you might want to delete it later if the new version works for you.

Posted via CB10

LOL. You will be waiting a lifetime. It's been months and months since Instagram was announced for Windows Phone and it still hasn't even hit version 1 and still sits in beta with barebones features. If you want Instagram for what it is, you gotta give up the berry.

I used Instragram for the first time in about 6 months two weekends ago... Haven't touched it since. Hence why I don't really care. I'll support the devs who support the platform first before doing sideloads or direct APK install or whatever you want to call it now.

Sure lots of people don't use Instagram.....

But for those that do use it on a regular bases, iGrann is not the best way to access Instagram. If you feel better supporting a 3rd party app that is limited in what it can do, go for it!

But if you think your helping BB10 to get more apps, wake up. We don't need iGrann, Instago, App for Instagram.... the platform needs Instagram. If having an Android version is the only way to accomplish this, then so be it.

Not trying to make a debate here. However, I don't see how installing Android APKs is helping BlackBerry neither. Maybe I'm missing the bus but I don't believe that the true developers can tell how many BB10 devices have installed their Android APKs.

In my opinion I'm using the Native apps to support those independant devs who are developing for the OS. So how is that not helping get more apps? Certainly it's not the missing big named apps but at least its something.

I've said it a million times before. If it helps me continue to use BlackBerry as my OS of choice while having the ability to stay current in the world of apps, I'm all for it!

I'd love to have big app titles like Instagram native for BB10 but that's not the reality we live in at the moment. Until that changes, I'm satisfied in having the ability to load a smooth Android version for use.

I whistled for a cab and when it came near The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror If anything I could say that this app icon is too small and I found is slow as a crawl - 'Yo, homes to Bel Air'

so what you're saying is "I pulled up to the house around 7 or 8 and I yelled to cabby "yo homes smell ya later", looked at my update and shoulda left it there, to sit on my throne as the prince of bel air

You'll get no where without providing a better solution after your criticism. Step up and improve it if you think its bad. We all believe in you, and you know you've got what it takes.

If it becomes available eventually in BlackBerry World I'll decide if I have a use for it.
Until then, meh.

Does anyone have an idea how to fix the reversed video problem on instagram? Everytime I film something with instagram on my Q10 this problem emerges.

Posted via CB10 on Blackberry Q10

Although instagram is a complete waste of time, iGrann is better for the Q10 due to the bottom bar disappearing when scrolling.

I prefer to use iGrann on my Q10 and Z10 but it really needs some love.

The phone filters are good enough but we need more functionality out of iGrann plus I find many times it's a bit slow even on LTE.

Posted via CB10

I agree. Igrann does everything 1 would need to do on IG.(well.. except direct message and posting videos). But on the android version video posts don't work anyways. So the apk is only for ppl who do a lot of IG direct.

Posted via CB10

I can confirm that it doesn't need to be deleted first - just update directly from Snap.

The new filter options make it more convoluted
But videos is easier videos that were previously couldn't upload because wrong format now upload seamlessly

Posted via CB10

Doesn't it mean that I'm the only one who has observed that Blackberry's Camera displays abnormal until a restart is carried out after using the Instagram for Android app?

Posted via CB10

I haven't bothered to sideload Snap. I went directly to apkreleases for the apk download link and it works just as it should. no problems.

Not into this, sorry. Plus, what a great database for the NSA: violating privacy stocking every picture, they achieved 55000 biometric profiles. More to come, nobody cares.

Posted via CB10

Tells the spooks and data crooks to go home and leave "our" Internet alone.

"We" do not want to be data mined for profit nor profiled to end up in a potential "terrorist" data base. You can find something about anyone, just dig deep enough "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God..." Rom 3:23 (KJV)

This shows how useless their whole "catch the bad guy" theater really is:

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

I want to use native app of instagramm, but sorry nobody wants to do it on blackberry 10

Posted via CB10

I just installed the update using Snap and it seems just fine. Why are you saying we delete the existing installation first?

Posted via CB10

I support and use iGrann as my primary Insta-app, but do have the latest Android version installed for when I want to upload a video clip.

Posted via CB10

Nah I support native apps IGRANN only things missing is Filters IG Direct and Video other than that it's fine.

And we should be seeing an update soon the developer is in school

Posted via CB10

I think the native frond/backends are better than the android counterparts. But then again, I don't use instagram and don't think I ever will need to use it. I use yfrog, twitpic for image hosting, what more do I need?

Posted via CrackBerry 10 (CB10) application using my BlackBerry Q10.

Please give direct link to Instagram. Crackberry posted it early on...don't use Snap. Thanks.

Still can't figure out how to run those damn apk apps. Why can't they just be in the BBW story.

Posted via CB10

I updated my Candy Crush and now it no longer works. Is it because of the version of android run time on my device, or did they build in a block to prevent unauthorized devices?

Posted via Z10

UPDATE: I don't know why my cámara crashes in this BlackBerry version, what happens I had to restart my device lots of time for the camara to work, once I do that work again instagram

Posted via CB10

Using Snap, going onto the download for instagram, clicking the download button and following all the procedures it installs "Maps" not instagram!

Now what?

Posted via CB10

Igrann serves my purpose. Download numerous photo editing apps and you can ways fool around to get the look u want using blackberry photo editor. Use their filter, adjust contrast or brightness and tinker with saturation and you can pretty much get that famous instagram look. But to tell you the truth, seeing photos with the same filter applied over and over again gets boring.

Native for me.

Plus, have they figured out how to ensure that your account won't get deleted by instagram if you are indeed using both? I had two accounts deleted for instagram because I was going back and forth between igramm and instagram. They might have flagged it for spam. Hut with over 60 igramm followers and following quite a few accounts myself I don't want account deletion.

Of course, curiosity might get the best of me so is there anyway to get the new version without snap? I recall when I downloaded instagram initially I just downloaded the apk file. Is there anywhere I can download the new apk and install it bypassing snap altogether. I know that the Amazon App store doesn't have it.
