Blaq, one of the top Twitter apps for the BlackBerry PlayBook, is on sale now for just $0.99. The price hasn't been this low before, so if you don't already own it, get out your virtual wallet and buy it now. The sale is only on until this Sunday, so don't think about it too long.
Blaq is really the best way to go for Twitter on the PlayBook and features real-time updates, native notifications, username auto-completion, profile view and much more. You can check out more in BlackBerry App World from the link below.

Great Twitter app for the PlayBook!

I'm really looking forward to bb10 but I heard something disturbing in a Sept. 9 BB10 features sheet I just read, on a tech page.
According to this article BB10 WILL NOT support the current apps we have on our Playbooks, and we are going to have to buy them all over again!!
That's rediculous. I have over $100 invested in my apps so I'm not sure what to do. At any rate I will not spend one more penny on a Playbook app till I hear any official news. Any Ideas about this guys???

That's definitely not what I've heard. PlayBook apps are going to be part of the App World collection for BB10 at launch, which is why RIM is so confident when they say they will launch with tens of thousands of apps just purely because of their back catalog alone.

And what tech page was that?
Mind sharing the link?

@THeme Scrool down about 3 posts. I post the link in there along with the paragraphs in question.

Vic_Franklyn: the applications will be backwards compatible. When Playbook gets updated to the brand new BlackBerry 10 OS, the apps you already paid for should work. By the way, app management is handled through your BBID (BlackBerry ID). As long as you use the same one, you will not have to re-purchased the apps.
:)

"As long as you use the same one, you will not have to re-purchased the apps." - This is only partially true. I downloaded a few apps that were either free or on sale on my 64GB PB. I recently had to wipe and reinstall the OS (.668 issue) and now am getting a message that the app price has changed. SO.. bottom line is that even though you may have purchased an app or gotten it free, just because it is in your BBID doesn't mean you will be able to re-download it for free.

Hey guys thanks for all the input. Heres the link to the Tech Radar BB10 story which says BB10 wont support current Playbook apps. Its about half way through the story.
http://www.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/bb10-what-you-n...
In case the link doesnt work as Crackberry wont let you post long links here, heres a cut and paste of the paragraph in question guys.
PS Not sure if what you guys are saying is true or Tech Radar is true. Hoping its you guys. Discussion?
BlackBerry 10 apps
Your current BlackBerry apps won't run on BB10, so you'll need to download/purchase a new set of applications onto your new device when they eventually roll out.
Apps are big business in the smartphone and tablet world and RIM is very aware of this, as it's guaranteed developers $10,000 of revenue in the first year of an app's life on BB 10.
The current PlayBook, and to an extent BlackBerry handsets, suffer from a lacklustre offering in the App World store – with the likes of Google's Play Store and Apple's App Store dwarfing RIM's offering and thus putting some consumers off.
As well as the revenue incentive for developers, RIM has also made it easy to port Android applications on the BB10 platform, with an easy to use API helping devs to do this - and hopefully boasting the portfolio of apps available at launch.

They are right that current BlackBerry phone apps won't work on the BB10 platform, but they didn't mention PlayBook apps specifically, in which case they'd be wrong.
RIM themselves have confirmed that PlayBook apps will transfer over fine because they are already running on the QNX platform. But the phone apps definitely will not.
Vic_Franklyn Sep 19, 2012 at 8:00 pm
Tech Radar is a reputable tech source and they said apps. To me that means ALL APPS. Who's right? Tech Radar or RIM? Hoping its RIM as I have a lotta $$$ tied up in my apps as I know many do.

They aren't that reputable to me.
Java based apps won't run on BB10. Playbook apps, yes.
Vic_Franklyn Sep 19, 2012 at 8:03 pm
mnhockeycoach99 Ya I experenced the same thing when I had the .668 back to .358 issue too. 668 was a damn curse. My battery drained 50% faster and my Playbook was always running hot. Happy to be rid of that crappy upgrade. I fortunately lost only 2 apps there, but they were apps that were free when I got them, and the price changed.
Lesson learned: dont download a RIM upgrade till its tested and no one is reporting major bugs.

I wouldn't be so quick to hold my breath on that. I lost several apps on the upgrade from my 9700 to the 9900, just because of screen resolution (or perhaps it was the move to OS7). As well, just about every time I've done an OS update, I've lost one or more apps that should have been saved in my "Uninstalled" folder on app world.
I don't have high hopes for app preservation on a significant Playbook upgrade.
mnhockeycoach99 Sep 19, 2012 at 3:59 pm
They read my mind as the Twitter site on the PlayBook sucks now.. I can't respond to Tweets, etc.
peterallcdn Sep 19, 2012 at 5:10 pm
I don't understand why people like Blaq. I'm sorry if I offend the developer, but I find the app to be slow and clunky and the UI is not intuitive at all. I was quite disappointed when I purchased the app and now hardly ever use it.
I prefer to just read tweets on my BlackBerry 9860's native twitter client which works much much much better than Blaq in my opinion. And when there's a picture or video I need a bigger look at, I just send it over to my PlayBook using bridge.
litig8or98 Sep 19, 2012 at 5:55 pm
+1 Thank you...it's nice to know I'm not alone. Blaq is highly overrated, in my view. And you hit the nail on the head re: intuitiveness.
jcarty Sep 19, 2012 at 6:52 pm
No offense taken. There are some things in the app which need improvement and there are others which are done by design. It's always a work in progress and if you read the reviews, you can see that we listen to feedback.
If you have suggestions, send them to support@kisailabs.com.
BB_Bmore Sep 19, 2012 at 10:20 pm
Blaq is a very good twitter client that's gonna be HUGE once the tools are there. I imagine a beast of a Blaq app for BB10.
Does Jcarty know something we don't? Like maybe a free Native Twitter app to come soon like Blackberry Jam soon?
BBOttawa Sep 20, 2012 at 8:36 am
@jcarty While I like Blaq, I agree the scrolling is not always smooth, and while it is chock full of great features, they are hard to figure out from the icons. Perhaps have an option for text labels which you can turn off when you've figured out how everything works? Or have a text label pop up when you press and hold a button?
Still the best twitter client on the PB, thanks for your hard work!
kolok Sep 20, 2012 at 11:19 am
Just got it and frankly I'm glad it was only ¢0.99 ... Perhaps I just don't know how to use it, but the app seems limited in terms of functionaility and keeps stalling on my PB (latest f/w). No option to quote a retweet, can't view/edit my profile. Seems clunky. Sorry to the app-maker for such harsh commentary, but I don't see how this is "the best twitter client" for playbook.
It's really too bad that RIM didn't make a native client like for the BB, which I find very functional.
Unrelated, but relevant, it's really too bad that twitter is not integrated into the PB (choose "tweet" from browser or some such), but that's the OS, not Blaq.

Crackberry should feature Hello Name Tag for BlackBerry Playbook in one of these posts. Thanks.
