One of my favorite utility applications, Gadget Box, has received a nice update - adding even more functionality to the already great app. The application that turns your BlackBerry 10 smartphone onto a virtual tool box may not be an app that you use every day but It has stayed firmly on my BlackBerry since it was first released.

New features in version 1.11.1 include:

  • Speedometer: new optional Odometer (long-press on it to reset to zero).
  • Magnifier: new Mirror mode! Has separate zoom controls from the magnifier!
  • View/Share option for screenshots from Camera gadgets (Level, Protractor, Magnifier) which does not require the Shared Files permission (Shared Files is still required for automatic saving).
  • Active Frame: Battery will now show yellow/red colors at configurable percentages.
  • Lux Meter: Can now output readings in Foot Candles.
  • Morse Generator: new 'Pause' pro sign and a slightly cleaner UI.
  • Bug fixes: Originally the main purpose of this update.

As always, more gadgets, features and enhancements are on the way. If you haven't already tried Gadget Box I'd highly recommend it. You never know when it may come in handy.

Great app and outstanding dev. The updates just keep coming for glitches that don't even bother at all.

Flashlight still not work for back LED on my Q10 (SQN100-3), don't know why. Anyone meet the same problem?

Usually this is because the app does not have permission to use the camera (which it needs to access the LED, as well as for several other gadgets).

You can check in your phone security settings; swipe down from your device home screen and then: Settings - Security and Privacy - Application Permissions - Gadget Box ; in there, make sure it has all the required permissions.

FYI - In Gadget Box there is a Help Screen (swipe down from main gadget screen) that explains why each permission is requested, and for which gadget each is used. All are required permissions for full functionality, but you can get away with Shared Files, which is only needed to auto-save snapshots from the camera gadgets (level, protractor, and Magnifier/Mirror); even without Shared Files you can still View/Share the snapshots, but it will not be saved automatically (you could email yourself the file). The experience is better with the Permission granted though :)

First app I got on this phone . Its been updated three times since then and I use it all the time :) keep Em coming.
