Viber, a free call and messaging application, has arrived on BlackBerry in beta form. The app has been available for both iOS and Android for a while and now is finally on the BlackBerry platform as well. The app currently allows for free messaging (text and photo) to other Viber users, but sadly is lacking the calling feature (for now). Viber plans to bring a full release -- including calling -- to BlackBerry "as it meets Viber's quality standards" however. You can grab the beta free in BlackBerry App World.

Free messaging and voice app Viber comes to BlackBerry

From the BlackBerry AppWorld description, "Viber lets you send text and photo messages, anywhere in the world (Free calls coming soon as well). All you need is a 3G or WiFi connection, and friends who get Viber too."

Just be patient. Skype is only for verizon and 3UK. Until they stop restricting usage of the app on other platforms, we're without it.

Well, that is a disappointment. There´s plenty of other texting/messaging apps, I was waiting for Viber only because of the calling feature. At this moment, not even worth downloading.

I'd say it's worth it if you're American. AT&T and Verizon seem to have issues sending duplicate messages. Hell, sometimes there are three or four replicate messages. It's annoying as hell and slow. SMS sucks.

WhatsApp drains iPhone batteries, so my friends won't use it. Vibe seems to do the trick.

Hmm, Bold´s batter is also draining fast these days, you brought me to the idea WhatsApp might be the culprit.

pictures are not sending on my 9900....also my bb froze several times while on this app...do i need to reinstall? or it is really buggy at this point?

Yep, its buggy, my 9900 also froze had to power off and on again and go an uncaught exception error. Unfortunately there is no Viber feedback via the phone, so hope they are reading this!

pics wont send on my 9900 either, can receive but not send. also how do i get this god damn sound off, wont let me adjust it in the profiles menu...

I downloaded, and its very buggy, it restarted my phone on its own and made it sticky. so i uninstalled till a good version is available esp Voice Calls :D

DBK.8520. » '9790+16GB PlayBook!' ^_^

Since it A Beta I'm not "complaining " but after installing, it set my bb in to a reboot cycle and I had to reload the OS. Since this is a corporate device, it took some time to get back to good.

The cause might have been caused by a restriction in our corporate policy on the Best, so I can't be sure who to fault for this, but I am tentative to try to load again.

Very few of my friends and family use BlackBerry's and most (on any platform) aren't going to go to the trouble of installing a 3rd party app. The moral of the story? I need new friends.

This has got to be the most buggy beta I've tested! It does send text and pics but its uses up a ton of the phone's resources, opening it takes about 2 min, with constant *hour glassing* so I uninstalled it waiting for a better beta or the full version. And since its a beta, I think Viber (the company) should provide better support receiving our emails straight, not directing us to the site!

Hi,

This is a member of the Viber R&D Team!

@Poncherelly and @ugbadboy- What kind of BB do you have??

If you have any question about Viber - please feel free to ask.

Thank you,

Hi,

BB App World does not support my carrier. and I can't download Viber from any other site. Can you please help me in this regard?

I installed this app only to realize that it seriously drained a fully charged battery in less than 6 hours.

I logged a complaint and got a response. I'll be waiting for a proper version.

Anyone else had this problem?

Same problem here. I have a curve 8520 running jsl hybrid and that app completely drained my battery. Am not installing it until free wifi calls are implemented.

I've been a fan of the MintM Mobile Application.. It is a loyalty based reward system which rewards points even for window shopping and can redeem these points in big and fancy outlets.. Awesome app.. Just reviewed this app.. thought of sharing it with you people..
