Formula 1 and BlackBerry head to Montreal this weekend

BlackBerry and Mercedes AMG Petronas will hit up the home turf this weekend as Formula 1 takes to Montreal. Sunday's race on Gilles Villeneuve Circuit will see Monaco winner Nico Rosberg and teammate Lewis Hamilton hit the road again for what looks to be some great action.

I'm still a newbie when it comes to F1, but I'm sad that I won't be able to head to the race this weekend. I thought about it a bit, but apparently my daughter's birthday party is a bit more important.

Regardless, I'll be watching the race live at 2p ET during the party to cheer on Team BlackBerry and hope for another victory. I'm told this is one of the best races of the season so I can't wait to see how it all pans out.

Mercedes AMG Petronas 'Keep Moving' in Montreal With BlackBerry Partnership

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - June 04, 2013) - With the world's elite Formula One drivers and teams arriving in Montreal this weekend, Canadian race fans will get their chance to see the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Silver Arrows cars in action at Gilles Villeneuve Circuit.

As the Official Mobile Computing Partner for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, BlackBerry is collaborating with the team on a number of technical and marketing opportunities. The new BlackBerry 10 platform delivers tools and services for MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, while fan engagement is being improved through the joint development of apps. BlackBerry 10 smartphones are being used by the team so they can 'keep moving' in Montreal and throughout the Formula One season.

The new partnership, signed at the start of the season, has seen the iconic BlackBerry branding featured prominently on the chassis and headrest of the F1 W04 Silver Arrows, the racesuits of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, and on the team's racewear kit. As the Official Mobile Computing Partner, BlackBerry and MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS have been working closely together to develop the team's use of the BlackBerry 10 platform at the team's headquarters and at each Grand Prix.

Ross Brawn, Team Principal at the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team commented: "It's all set to be another exciting race weekend in Montreal and we are delighted to have BlackBerry on-board. We're embracing the new BlackBerry 10 platform at both a technical and operational level, as well as collaborating with the team at BlackBerry to bring new mobile innovation to MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS."

Frank Boulben, Chief Marketing Officer at BlackBerry, said: "Formula One is all about precision engineering, design and innovation - three values that mirror the approach that's gone into creating BlackBerry 10. It is a natural fit for BlackBerry to partner with the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team to deliver value through technical and marketing collaboration. We have built BlackBerry 10 to keep people moving, and we believe the essence of this will be delivered at many levels through our partnership."

Formula 1 and BlackBerry head to Montreal this weekend

I wonder if BlackBerry will have a street team in place at the F1 Weekend events in Montreal. Would be nice to go meet some familiar faces.

You are missing out Adam! There is nothing like experiencing F1 live, you can't even imagine assault on your ears or the vibrations! It's truly an amazing experience. Also it's the last year of the v8's so it may never sound like this again....

To promote greener engines, they are using V6 turbo engines next year... which is why Honda is coming back to F1 in 2014.

Good to know. Thanks. Hope the technology advances to where speed, performance, and most important safety are all not sacrificed.

A couple of years ago ,on fan appreciation day ,I saw Rihanna movin past the ropes to meet up with Hamilton,It was about 11:30AM and she had a glass of Champagne in her hand,my kind of gal, body gaurds and all!!!

Omg Kevin, are you going to be at the one in Montréal? Cuz I'm going to be working for BlackBerry this weekend from June 7-9 at the F1.

Please answer :)

It always gets crazy in MTL during the Canada Grand Prix, nights are crazier. It's a 3 day/night party in the streets.

Yes.. the paddock and crescent.. its pretty cool to get there and see all the "feria" that is happening during those day. I'll head there for sure!! :) (in just 2 corner of there lol)

Forget about Porsche BB10. How about a limited edition Silver Arrows BB10 edition of the Q10
Something tells me Rosberg gonna do well here in Montreal and bring joy to BlackBerry nation !

Real race cars have a roof ;-)

I'm sure Mercedes will do just fine, but I'm a McLaren fan through and through (awaits flaming, though I am British) so I dunno what to say really! I won't be watching, though, I'll be at the British Touring Car Championship instead!

Disagree with you. F1 & Indy cars rule motorsports. Nascar and touring cars come after in my opinion.

I'm a ferrari fan since the 90's and still a fan and I hope they can come one two on the podium and third place to rosberg in a Mercedes with bbry... that would be a great result...

Montreal has always had a special place in my heart because it's in Canada, but beyond patriotic reasons, I've never thought of it as any different then other races. What makes it so special?

I'd be curious to learn more about how they are using bb10. Do they have custom apps developed related to the car, team or training. How do they use it specifically and uniquely? Or is it just that the team has them and uses them as their personal phones?

we can hear the F1 engines in the middle of the city ( the track is on a small island) next to us.
It is indeed unique how all that sounds. Make sure to protect your ears if you are in the track !

Maybe we can get the team to stick around for a couple of days after the race to do some test uses of 10.2 and BB10 for the PlayBook?

JK hoping for a Ham, Rosberg 1-2 podium!

Don't get your hopes up I can't see the Mercedes winning this one Canada tends to have high tyre wear and that is the problem they have. Although I'm a massive lewis fan I can see this being alonso or raikonnen to win this!

BbPandy: the race track is essentially in the city, which makes Mtl similar to Monaco, F1s most prestigious race. The city is filled weekend energy and enthusiasm, too. Most f1 people say it's the best race all year.

What a turn around year for both BlackBerry and Mercedes. Montreal is going to be epic for Hamilton, it's his best track. We better see Kevin trying to sneak onto pit lane for an interview!
