FlyCast 2.0 Final Beta Released!

FlyCast, one of my favorite streaming radio applications recently posted their latest beta in the CrackBerry forums and while still not quite in final form the application is working better and better with each update. Those who have tested the beta know that FlyCast 2.0 offers caching of music to the SD card but a few more things have been added to the new beta as well such as the following:

  • Storm supports both landscape and portrait mode now
  • Station caching is optional
  • New Twitter interface added. Tweet a song and it will post a link to the song on your Twitter feed that any user can click on to be taken directly to that station on FlyCast to hear it
  • Curve 8900 is supported

Station caching is free in the beta app, at least until the final version ships to App World, while the streaming feature of course will always remain free. If you want to check the beta out and haven't done so yet be sure to grab it and leave feedback on the FlyCast forums to help make the application better.

Locked up my phone after a search... Think I'll stick with Pandora / Slacker.. :)

Lots of random lock up and buffering taking to long to load a song. It causes your phone to reset quite a bit. I have a Bold.

To Slacker or Sticher?

flycast has everything and not just music. It has radio stations including talk shows, entertainment news. Slacker has only music with limited commercial interuptions. Slacker does not have things like ESPN radio or CNN but Flycast does. Quality is the same. Slacker also allows you to download or cache the songs so you can replay it later. Flycast claims to do it but I couldn't try it out since it doesn't work on my Bold. I used Flycast mainly for listening to ESPN and used Pandora or Slacker to listen to music. It has a better selection of songs.

Flycast is agreat app when it works. 90% of the time this app is working fine. The music cache is a great function.

The random reboots on my storm, not so much :(

And yes I've followed the installation instructions provided in the flycast forums.

I haven't had any issues with this program at all. Runs great. I ran it for about 4 hours today with bluetooth headphones and used my phone as well and still did not kill my battery. Caching works great as well. It records it all and I can listen to any song I choose after. Even when I get a text message it mutes for a second and goes back on. The original program I always had to restart it to get music again. I love it on my storm.

I recorded a few songs on my storm and when I play the songs back at a later time and exit, it seems to erase entirely. Is this normal with Flycast? Is there anyway to prevent it from erasing?

This could just be Telus, or my storm... but it seems to randomly kill my data connection. For the first hour or so it worked great, I was so happy. Then data connection dies. Now it seems to be happening more frequently.

It has happened before, so it may not be flycast - since I'm streaming data all the time now maybe I just notice it more.
