FlockMe for BlackBerry 10 helps you find events with like-minded people

By Simon Sage on 4 Oct 2013 10:50 am EDT

One interesting app I found at BlackBerry Jam Asia was FlockMe. These guys are trying to make something of a social event matchmaking service on BlackBerry 10. Users connect their Facebook account, and based on their interests, are presented with events happening around them so they can meet like-minded people.

The goal here isn't so much dating (though that use case is still pretty obvious) but more about meeting new people in a larger group setting. This can be perfect for those that are new to town without much of a social network of their own, or even those that are looking to branch out a bit from their usual circles.

It's a neat idea, though it will really need a critical mass of usership to really take off. What do you guys think - is this something you would use if you were moving to a new city? FlockMe will be landing in BlackBerry World in the next 3-4 weeks, so keep an eye out.

This is exactly what the world needs. Enabling more insular and intolerant worldviews... fantastic.

Seems like next best app after bbm. This should go cross platform to be successful.

It's cool, but why Facebook?
People should know that Facebook sucks...

FB because of the huge user base and they provide oauth services so devs don't have to maintain password databases. Blog sites use the same tech. To ne fair, there are other providers offering the same thing. Maybe BlackBerry should offer oauth for BBID because of channels and BBM4ALL....

It wouldn't hurt BlackBerry checking it out

Because based on your likes and interest listed on facebook, it will direct you to events and groups of people that you either know or at least share the same interests. It's an interesting idea, but I don't like the idea that companies are now using our social media sites to create a personality profile of us in order to better market to us. It's just weird.

As you said it will take a huge user base to kickoff. And that won't be maintained without a cross-platform release of the app

Can I use the app without using a F*#kbook account? I hate all these apps forcing us to use specific social networks.

Keep moving BB!

BB Z10 Rocks!

Why not Cascades?? WebWorks is slow... :(

Looking to get critical mass on BB? Lol good luck

Kind of reminds me of that quote from Groucho Marx: "Please accept my resignation. I don’t care to belong to any club that will have me as a member"

So I guess since I don't use Facebook this is useless...

I believe so! All Facebook does is steal your personal information. Waze is another info thieving app.

I would most definitely get that

Was cool and would've used until the whole Facebook thing

Definitely would check it out

Lol, a flash mob app!

Funny app and developers!

People have been telling me to go flock myself for years... this should make that easier!

good to organize tweetups ?
Facebook is nice because many people are using it, and people already fill in their profiles with their Likes.
So it is the most complete available user database, which can be accessed just with their APIs.

Clever move from that company.

I think Meetup already does this and then some ;-)

Excellent idea
