UK customers who bank with First Direct will be pleased to hear that they can now access their vital information straight from their BlackBerry 10 smartphone thanks to the Banking on the go app. The application is an Android port but as long as it works I'm ok with that.

I haven't been able to give this one a test run as I don't bank with First Direct so feel free to post your thoughts in the comments if you are a customer.

BlackBerry 10 customers will be able to:

  • view balances and up to your last 90 transactions
  • make transfers between your accounts with us
  • make payments to a person or organisation you have paid before using Internet Banking
  • read secure messages

While we are on the subject of UK banking apps - there seems to be a shortage for BlackBerry 10. Back at BlackBerry Jam Europe we were promised a native NatWest application. Where is that one? NatWest can't tell me. It's kind of frustrating when apps like this work perfectly on legacy devices.

Well I do bank with First Direct but don't have BB10. Any chance this may come out for the 9900?

Rbs and Natwest are working on theirs. Should see them next month or by October

I bank with FD and the app seems to work fine. I also bank with Barclays and have been in contact with them several times about when to expect their BB10 app - last contact I had with them they said that the native app would be available Dec 2013....We shall see.... Personally think it's these useful apps that BB10 is missing...

I tweeted The Halifax last week and they have no plans to support BB10, yet they have an updated app for my old Curve.

I asked Barclays a while back mentioning that they had a banking app on on os7...they said they had no plans to offer one on BB10...just another kick in the teeth.

I have contacted them via their mobile bank app website, I have been told they are working on a Native BB10 app, as I have said above, been told that this should be available Dec 2013

Probably a good idea for everyone to download it anyway to encourage the parent company Hsbc to make one for their customers. It's an android port. Hsbc did a good app for my torch but nothing for the z10. So far...

Great to have. Just installed it and ran it - works well and not a problem for me if its an android port - always liked First Direct (once saved me in the middle of the night in Frankfurt before phone banking was common!) and this is a real nice to have

Very happy about this. BB10 keeps getting more relevant for me. The apps are coming slowy but surely.

Excellent! Haven't seen a natwest or coutts app - would really like to see that. The coutts website is rubbish to log into.

Onwards and upwards!

Switch your bank to First Direct too, they will pay you to do so. If you're not happy they will pay you again when you leave.

Here in Canada we've been waiting forever for Royal Bank (RBC) to get their sh!t together and get us an app.

Switch to ING Direct. They've been supporting BlackBerry since OS 7. Their BlackBerry 10 app is pretty good with the last update. Can now deposit cheques by phone. Sweet.

PROUD owner of a BlackBerry 10!

How does that work?

BlackBerry will survive in the Corporate and Government Sectors! My Z10 is so much better than an iphone!

Cheque has to be payable to you. You take a picture of the front and back of the cheque with your phone and upload the pic's through the app. Works well so far.

It's almost embarrassing for the Royal Bank. Practically every bank in Canada has produced an app for the z10. So I mainly bank at the Scotia Bank and TD. Problem solved!

I've been waiting for the Royal Bank of Canada application also. I've never really done online banking before so don't know what to expect.

Q10 and Canadian all the way!

I spoke to Lloyds tsb about a BB10 app and just we have no plans to make one, just a crappy attitude if you ask me, maybe have to give first direct a try

Would live a nationwide app, although their Web page works perfectly on my Z10.

Posted using my Z10 on10.2.0.1047

I sideloaded the Android Nationwide app on my Z10 10.2, works really well. On 10.1 it never loads.

I get "unavailable for this device ". I have a Z10. It may be because I am in the US, but I am an expat and maintain my FD account, so that kinda blows.

Meanwhile, when are Wells Fargo going to get a BB10 app together? they had one for my Torch for a while, before they yanked it fir some reason. And yes, I can use the mobile website, but still....

Great to see. Now I want to see a Barclays app. I have to keep my 8520 in the drawer just so I can do my banking. I'm terrified it will draw its last breath soon.

9900 for me at the moment so will have to wait until October upgrade.

As it's an Android app, does anyone know whether it will work n the playbook?

I’m a long standing FD customer (very happy with their service) so was really pleased to see this become available. Works great on my Z10 but have issues providing password details on my Q10. There are a couple of letters that don’t do anything to update any of the password fields when I press them on my Q10 keyboard. One is T and the other is part of my FD password so won’t be sharing on-line. Both those keys work fine on all other Q10 apps. I can’t see any way to send details of this issue (nicely worded obviously) to the devs??
The only other gripe I have with having this app is that I’m able to see how much money I don’t have wherever I am ;-)

Where is Royal Bank of Canada app. RBC Not supporting it's own. I imagine foreigners are their clients.

I'm pretty sure it was someone on here that called RBC customer support and they said they're working on an APP for BB10. Be patient, use the browser for now.

No Ally Bank either. I got excited after a previous commenter said ING had one, but it's only for Canada. I would gladly take an Android port even. I tried converting the Ally one, but it wouldn't work.

President's Choice Financial pretended to come out with a banking app on BB World.

Most people have recognized the app is actually just a link to their mobile website.

Should I commend them on having made the effort to put "something" on BB World? Nah. The honest, logical, and probably lower cost way to direct BlackBerry users to your mobile site is to add user agent sniffing code to your main website to detect BB's mobile browser. That's it. If you don't want to make an app, that's what you do.

Thank you for reading my rant.
