BlackBerrry 6 for the BlackBerry Bold 9700

* Update: the leaked build does have some bugs, so be sure to read through the forum threads before deciding if you want to install or wait for a newer build.  If you run into any issues, you can always downgrade - check out our BlackBerry 101 section for help! *

w00t!!!! Own a BlackBerry Bold 9700? If you don't mind trying an unofficially released operating system, it's pretty much time to stop what you're doing and step right up and download BlackBerry 6 for your BlackBerry Bold 9700. The OS version is 6.0.0.344. Jump into our forums for the findings on this one, and you can download at the links below. And if you're not sure what all the hype behind BlackBerry 6 is, be sure to read our BlackBerry 6 review for more info.

*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

I've been running 6.0 on my 9700 for a solid 2 months now. Its run really well for me. The only issue I've had is that the device resets the odd time when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. I'm on a different codeline than this one though so it might not happen on this codeline.

    DJBS4LIFE

LOVE ITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!! Won't be going back to 5 at all unless something bad happens lol. Only my video camera light don't work but I can live with that :)

    vicelore

    darkstar954

I had the same issue as everybody else / here is the steps:

TMO users need to remove the tmobile and tmobileeu themes. Remove them from.

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader
    Files\9700M_v6.0.0.344_P6.6.0.50\Java
(Just look for these 2 files ONLY)
    net_rim_theme_tmobile_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod
    net_rim_theme_tmobileeu_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod

Once done delete the vendor files / install, at first my facebook and twitter did not work, I did two battery pull and all is well / I LOVE it / if yall need help just hit me up @darkstar_954 or pin:2185855C

    BBJess

OMG I love you! I have had to wipe and reinstall this dang thing 5 times now, thankfully I saw your post and can stop pulling out my hair now!

    JAYKIDD

Love this new upgrade! Love how bb users help out each other! OS6 is dope! Having a little drag! But now just getting rid of some of these 3rd party app's! Still want the 9780 with more mem! Or hope the Torch comes to T-Mobile and can use there hspa network! Lets do this RIM!

    ljcn

I am having problems with the BlackBerry connection on 3G. The 3G signal is strong, but the BlackBerry cconnection only lasts for a minute or two before dropping off and it doesn't come back unless I turn the wireless connection off and on again. I have no problem on wi-fi or on 2G.

    Anyone else having this issue?

    kamakazikev24

OS 6 ROCKS! But issue with my battery meter which goes red with annoying flashing yellow LED far to early. It went red at lunch time but the phone was still running at midnight with HEAVY use. Well its a 'new' phone again so I had to play didn't I!!!
Just don't like the anoying LED flash when using the phone!
    I'm on 02 UK.
Also Quicklauch won't do a screen capture for the new webkit browser.
Love it though and a big Thankyou to those who made this happen.

I updated my 9700 to os6. everything is working fine but my internal memory is 32mb only and ithe other problem is that i cannot use anyof the BB services (Browser, BBM, live messenger, Emails,etc.).. PLZ help i dont wanna go back to OS.5,, i m in pakistan using WARID

    yohanesr

at first i was facing the same problem, but i delete the 2 java file
    net_rim_theme_tmobile_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod
    net_rim_theme_tmobileeu_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod

the doing some shrink os. It give me about 100mb left. i install couple of apps and left me with around 80mb. But i notice that the memory with this build dropping very fast. Since the reset time with this OS6 is super fast, i guess it's not really a proplem.

    Happy OS6!!!

The only problem I have had is that Viigo has become slow when fetching an article. The article index is fine and updates quickly, but when I select an article it can take minutes to load.

    Zip92

I cant get access to the files from any of the Download site. Have they all been removed?? Any other sites besides those 5?

    samp987

YEP they are all removed due to copyright violation but that just how this works. You are just a little too late for this, brother.

Deleted the two tmobile files and the vendor file as previously discussed. Wiped my phone clean using BBSAK 1.85 and performed a fresh install. Restored all of my data and apps with BBSAK.

So far I have had great performance and no crucial operational issues. One issue I noticed is that my application center reports 0 items and upon doing a refresh I get an Error 404. As for apps, I haven't tested many but I did note that WeatherEye (the weather network app) does not make it past the splash startup screen.

My available memory is down to 53mb but I do have quite a few apps installed, still this is less than what was available with previous OS5 releases. Boot up time is pretty quick, not as fast as some people are saying, but a very significant improvement no doubt.

Some people have reported battery leak but I have not experienced this at all. I turned my brightness down to 50 as I always do and after about 12 hours of slightly above average usage (wifi on and lots of gui exploring) my battery is down only 25%. I was a bit hesitant to install after some of the posts but I can report that so far my install has been very stable. At times I get some slight lag, but overall I am quite pleased with the experience thus far.

    Coatta11

Weird behaviour... All of my third party apps disappeared and I went from 53 mb to about 85 mb free.

I imagine this was the result of me restoring my applications via BBSAK instead of doing re-installs. When I went to uninstall an application it did warn me that others might be affected. In any event, all of my apps have now dissappeared, including BB App World which I installed manually post BBSAK restore.

In summary I will no longer be using BBSAK to restore apps, probably not a bad idea when updating to an entire new OS. For future reference, upon receiving an official release of OS6 I will be doing a clean install and re-install all of my apps manually.

    twiztidfig

I've had OS 6 installed on my BB for about 24 hours now. The only complaint I have is the lack of memory since the OS was so large a file.
I'm currently in the process of utilizing Shrink-A-OS (which I highly recommend that all use prior to installation) to free up some space.
Before shrinking, my OS was 142.09, after shrinking, it'll be 88.51. I've removed all languages except for English, AIM, Flickr, Google Talk, ICQ, MSN Messenger, CityID, Help Files, Setup Wizard, TTY, VCAST Music/Rhapsody, Vodafone Music App, VZNavigator (I'm on AT&T in the US), all games except for Texas Hold 'Em.
I know that if I were to remove the Default Backgrounds/Ringtones/Themes/Videos and other items, I would probably only be installing a 40-60 OS. I just don't want to try right now since it's so close to quitting time around here. If I need more memory, I'll re-shrink and re-install come Monday.
I also noticed that (at least for me) the links to download the OS have been killed. I'm just glad that I saved the download to my thumbdrive. I'm probably going to be installing OS 6 on my co-worker's BB once I get mine working better and bug free.
Well, other than the memory, OS 6 has been worth the wait for me. The multi-tab browsing and better web browsing is absolutely gorgeous. The only thing I have to get used to is that pressing 'T' doesn't take me to the top of the page anymore, however, the scrolling is so much faster anyways.
The homescreen with it different tabs is going to take some getting used to as well. I catch myself trying to drag my thumb across the screen because the theme just screams 'Touchscreen'. The revamped calendar has the same feel and function, I believe that they only changed the views. I still like it though.
I'm not a BB guru or anything, just a junkie, so I know that my posts are not technologically exciting. Hope this helps somebody out.
I will post any further news as I experience it.

    bercut

im putting so much pressure in OS6, i managed to get an error even 62 or 602 (the system rebooted itself).

More over i feel its a little bit laggi, hanging and not fast as OS5.

Overall I love it except the speed, i think my bold 9700 needs higher specs for OS6 (ram and cpu a bit slow for this system).

Upgrage went fine and i didnt had any issues, i strictly followed instructions posted in comments.

Thou my Desktop Manager 6 didnt backup my data (givig me errors) i lost some data as phone calls history, sms and emails. Contacts and memos i backup through outlook.

well i'll be testing further issues if any.

(i wish it didnt had all this fancy Iphone style of menus flowing and opening/closing animation. usually bb associates with business ppl seeking performance and realiance, some might wont agree, but i think its a reason of slow OS6 performance on my handset).

    remaxman2

First off this OS is sweet.

One of the first bugs I found was the calendar. You can not advance to the next day in day view. You can in week view. Once in awhile in day view it will advance but its hit or miss.

Second thing is with reading facebook posts. It will not let you scroll to the bottom.

Third. Sling player mobile (SPM) will install and run. But after awhile it will stop and freeze up. The only way to get it working again is with a reboot of the phone.

I will not go back to 5 as I can work around these bugs. This is an awsome leak and well worth the download. ant wait until the next release.

    Randyburgja

Just started using the OS6 on Blackberry 9700 from Digicel (Jamaica)...no browsing or cursor issues. Downloaded and uploaded fine.

Problem I do find is that when playing music my volume keys skip tracks instead of turning the volume up or down. Searched in the settings and there is nothing to change there. It works fine most times, but it is annoying to have to hope that pressing the volume key does not stop or restart the track im listening to.

    jdoggfoelife

Hmmmm, I know that holding the volume keys DOWN for a second or two does indeed change the tracks. And sometimes it can get annoying. It does it to me even on OS 5. In order for u to get just the volume you have to press the buttons fast and frequent. I didn't have that issue with OS6, just the damn memory leak was insane

    jdoggfoelife

Too much memory leak for my liking. Even worse than when I got 5.0 for my 9000. With my old Bold I only had to pull the battery once a day. With my 9700 2 and sometimes 3 times a day. So not worth it. Will try another build when it leaks but until then. I downgraded back to my good ol 5.0.0.979 and so far all day I have only had 1mb of leak. From 107mb down to 106mb

    chrisdlv77

I;ve had the os6 for already 3 days and having no problems at all i deleted the tmobile files and the vender did a complete wipe on my bold 9700 and installed it went perfect!!! i check my available memory and it was at 95mb!!!! so i reinstalled my apps and have about 42mb left which is fine with me no problems with the apps have all working properly and webkit is amazing wifi working good and 3g also working good really havent found any bugs yet so im very happy with this leak

    cables3

I was trying to upgrade to 6.0 using the five links above but none are available. What am I missing? Can anyone give me another link for the upgrade? Thank you!

    Aztek13

I've had this for almost 24 hrs and for the most part, everything is ok. There is a slight memory and battery leak but my biggest issue is that I can't get Worldmate 4.0 to work. It installs but gets hung up on the title screen. I've done the resets and delete/reinstall thing but nothing works. Does anyone have a cure for this?

    fabfreddie

Been using it for a few days now, and I like the OS but I can't get over some of the bugs, like not being able to find any locations when typed in Maps. There are a few others but it's enough to render my phone 60% useless.

Back to 5 and I will wait for official release.

    CH00SExJUiiCYv3

none of those links are working for mee ? it says stuff like file was deleteddd :(

    mawil1013

I did it!, downloaded 9700_OS6_334.exe to my PC, after download, opened it on my PC, located and deleted the two T-Mo cods and vendor.

    Under: C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Shared/Loader Files/9700M_PBROS6/Java, locate and delete
    1.net_rim_theme_tmobile_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod and
    2.net_rim_theme_tmobileeu_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod

Then under: C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Application Loader,, Locate and delete the "vendor" file

Used Wipe on my phone, clicked / selected all three boxes, enter the password which is "blackberry"

then use 'app loader' (identified by it's phone icon) which was also in new OS6 files.

Prior to installing any apps I had a memory of 95mb.

So far reinstalled my contacts, google mobile app as well as gmail and google maps apps from web. All is well! Browser is sweet, very fluid, zoom from pad is convienent,

I have two web2go icons, one works the other is dead as in it states I need adobe flash,

I have two facebook icons, one works and other is a web2togo link in disguise as a Facebook icon, but dang I loves it!!

I've only updated one time before on a 8320, so if I can do it, anyone can, I did do all the suggested backups! wireless, on DM and forced full backup of service books.

My thanks to all those here ahead of me, I waited a few days, then cut N pasted all the suggestions, then made a step by step guide to follow, but I couldn't have done it without all the good folks here!

    thetnaung

I am enjoying OS6 for a week now and love the way it is. The issues here is about application storage. when I try to install new app, it show only 5MB available on My BB World. After the Alt+Shift+Del (restart), it goes back to 48.4 MB Free. Hope this would resolve on next build.

    jed_7

    Hey guys,

Just installed it on my 9700; everything works fine except one major problem: it thinks I don't have a data plan! Therefore it won't let me connect to the internet through the cellular network, so no email, no facebook, no browsing... Which doesn't make sense because I have unlimited data!

If I try and connect to, say, Crackberry, I get the message "Browsing over the cellular network is not included as part of your current service plan. To browse the web you must use WiFi or contact your service provider to change your service plan."

I'm on O2 UK. Has this happened to anyone else and how can I fix it?

    Would love some help, thanks!

    beachdog

Had the new os for 3 days and noticed a few apps were unistalled but still worked including bbm went to reinstall bbm and lost the icon had to go back to 5.0 lost all my contacts.Got most my contacts back now and relized still to many bugs in 6.0 for me will stick will 5 for now.Battery life sucked 2.

    singmjo

Had it since it leaked and have noticed the following issues:

    1. Can't scroll to the bottom of a Facebook message that I've received.

    2. Viigo is not working correctly, I can see the headline, but can't open the article.

    3. Got the severe battery drain into red when surfing on some graphic intensive websites and yet the phone still lasted another 8 hours.

    4. When accessing the Connections menu from the top of the home screen, the cursor disappears (I think it happens when I scroll down too quickly in the menu).

    superkaos

I am on ATT and the browser seems to take a very long time to load and run pages. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

    strods

When I saw twitter that CB had the leak went home and downloaded it (my job from my house is about 10 mins) and installed it, it was great.

Some issues that I had is that the browser didn't work with out Wifi, it only happened to my carrier (mas movil) cuz i tried a Digicel and Movistar and worked fine.

Eventually my friend that has the same provider solved the problem, we had to brick the phone using BBSAK (wipe OS) and reinstall OS 6 with out the vender file and vuala it worked.

Battery is working fine, same as email, FB, MSN, BBM, Whatsapp and Twitter, still have about 81 MB free.

If you need help or if you need the file just shot me a bbm.

uploaded the file since there are a lot of people saying that it doesnt work anymore

i just installed the os on my bb, it runs beautifully after 3 or 4 times battery pull. i got 70ish mb left. is it good for that amount of memory left? and should i reinstall 3rd party apps like ubertwitter and others?

    jordan.katranis

    Oh Crap !!!
    I missed it!
All the download lonks are gone...
Too bad I didn't check back earlier on CB

great leak jus a lil sluggish sometimes

    TEHJAMUS

Works like a charm! No bugs yet but takes a lot of space. 78 mb left. Fast and awesome. Works perfect with rogers!

    Demonchildinc

ok i've been running this since its 'leak'and i'm getting my first problem. tried taking a picture and the flash worked for the first pic. then it doesnt work any more. i have to do a reset to get it to work and then i have the same problem. anybody else get this? and if so any ideas how to fix it??

    rohitberi

First set of problems. talk button does not work under Google Maps.

still no reason to go back to 5... Browser is the highlight for this release...

    Sunday::

Battery dropped from half to the red zone in 10 mins of use. when i put it back on charge, it jumped right back at half....

    xiongo

i have been running os 6 on my blackberry for two days. the installation wasnt hard juz a few simple steps to follow. i removed all my third party apps and manually re-install them after i did the upgrade, something i took whole afternoon to do, i probably should have juz backed up them and restore it automatically.

anyway here are some of the good and bad features of os 6 after my 48 hrs of use:

    pros:
    - very good usability
    - most of my 3rd apps works except one, oanda fxtrade.
    - there are good n bad rumours about battery life, i am personally very particular about battery and memory, in my own experience the battery life works better. i do my normal usage and it only went down 30% after whole day which is pretty impressive.
    - browser is very good, i throw away my opera mini which have sensitivity problem in os 6
    - camera is good, better and more options
    - i love the new option where you can view the cpu usage and back memory usage of your phone
    - there r more which im lazy to say u can try them urself

    bugs:
    - major memory leak. i track my memory very closely, i also have memorybooster by s4bb ltd. on OS 5, my average free memory was 100mb, with OS 6, my average memory highest i could free up 30mb - still can survive, but now i need the memorybooster to be running in the background
    - when u click on the top of the homescreen for the drop down list of connection, when u scroll down too quickly sometimes no selection appear - wth ?
    - go to Message > Option > Email Account Management it says "unable to open email setup application, contact your wireless service provider" - maybe its a leak and not official i supposed
    - a most annoying feature i experience, probably one that made me consider reverting back to OS 5 is the connection issue on the browser and 3G. here is what happens:

i cannot use the browser outside of wi-fi. when im on 3G alone, i need to delete the servicebook browser internet service 2 in order to use browser. (that servicebook browser i deleted comes back after reboot.) and after u deleted the service 2, my sms doesnt work anymore. so it is either here or there. i now download the BOLT browser for my usage outside wi-fi.
    - i use smartwifi by s4bb ltd too, which is supposed to detect ur gps location and turn ur wifi on automatically in ur registered area. when i use 2G, the gps wont detect, only when i switch to 3G my smart wifi works. i m not sure this is an os 6 bug, or s4bb's bug.
    - when i first install os 6, i couldnt move 2 of my mails into a folder, until i reboot and it miracly appear inside
    - some of my quicklaunch function doesnt work

that is all i found so far, told my frens who are newer to blackberry to wait for official os 6. im enjoying it most of the features other than the servicebook stuff on my browser and sms. thought about downgrading back to os 5.0.0.979 (or something) but very lazy to do so. hope official one comes out soon.

    .
    .

Too bad OS6 is not available as un update for BlackBerry 9700.
Rim is loosing credibility and reputation...

No way people will buy the 9780 just to get OS6.

As a consequence Apple is now overtaking RIM in sales.
Apple released an update to OS4 for the 3GS and 3G!!!

Is now RIM working for Apple??????
Did Apple secretly acquire RIM to destroy competition?????

    Dear All,

Ok read through all the threads, prepared myself... backed up the service books, bacdek up data, deleted the tmobile themes, renumbered the Vendorid, deleted vendor.xml and finally I used BBSAK and did a phone wipe. Clicked app loader went through the initial screen options and then I got the following message:

The application "Browser" cannot be loaded, because it requires the following applications that are not available:
    net.rim.blackberry.xml

HELP.. what or where or why...

    Many thanks!!

I have two facebook icons, one works and other is a web2togo link in disguise as a Facebook icon,

I did not reinstalled service books and reinstalled apps thru apps world one at a time.

This is some bad shit.. I downloaded it straight away and then it started to become real laggy and unresponsive I ended up pulling out the battery 5 - 6 times a day.. And then today I got fed up with and tried to downgrade.. Only problem something went wrong and my BlackBerry got nuked and wont downgrade anyway.. So be warned!

For those who are having the blank theme issue! :

"If anyone is receiving the black and white theme with missing icons..

    1. Connect your BB to PC
    2. Open BBSAK
    3. Select the Modify CODs tab
    4. Select Read System tab
    5. Scroll and select the 'net_rim_theme' that has T-Mobile included
    6. Select Remove CODs
    7. Reboot BB

got this info from bbhybrids, and worked for me!

Does anyone else have a problem with the red LED light flashing constantly? I have nothing unopened but it won't stop. >:/ I have BeBuzz installed so idk if it could be that?

I installed the new OS (leaked version) without any problems. To be sure it was clean, I first backed up all my data, and wrote down which 3rd party programs I had installed, because I had read that a fresh install of those programs was 'preferred'.
After installing the OS, everything was smooth; OS runs faster than OS 5. I re-intsalled all of my apps fresh and restored my data with no problems.
I'm finding a couple of quirks however:
    1. In Facebook, it is sometimes difficult to scroll down an entire message if it is longer than the screen. I'm guessing this has something to do with the fact this OS was written for a touchscreen device.
    2. The phonebook is a little quirky in terms of cutting/copying and pasting phone numbers, but the features are overall much better.
    3. In the calendar, when it shows a specific day's events, and I want to scroll to the next day, I used to be able to just move my finger across the trackpad (right or left) to move to the next day. I find this extremely difficult, but it works after literally 'swiping' my finger 10 or so times across the touchpad.

After installing the OS, I was left with about 72MB of disk space, which is more than sufficient. Even after installing all of my 3rd party apps (I use lots of apps), I still have about 48MB left over...more than sufficient.

Overall, the system runs nicely. I'd like to see more/better themes (yes, I know it's early). It's like anything new...better for sure...finding where they put some of the setup functions can be a bit cumbersome...but once you've got it...you're good to go.

    Overall, I'd give it a 3.75 out of 5...perhaps a 4. It's an excellent first version 6 for the 9700!

It's been Friday night since I've install OS6 on my 9700/TMobile/USA and it still works great!

My question has to do with service books, do I reinstall? What the heck are they?

    Tom.H#CB

Smooth upgrade and the restore worked as advertised.

I'm guessing that the carriers are the big hold-up, as OS6 is playing very nicely on this 9700. (i.e. Sell as many 9780s/9800s as possible before releasing an upgrade to the 9700.)

BTW, the Webkit browser is worth the price of admission. The OS5.* browser sucked, but you really don't appreciate how bad it was until you've run the browser in the new OS.

My guess is that time will only improve the 9700/OS6 relationship.

I used this leak for about a week and got tired of resetting my device and constantly checking how much memory I had left. Overall, it's a decent build but I don't blame any of the carriers for not releasing OS6 just yet. I would assume that the 9700 is not on RIM's priority lsit, so I won't anticipate seeing an "official" release until next year.

Do you guys know when we will get the official version of OS6 for 9700? I am in Canada and I am with Telus, I do not know if this leak could brick my device. (My parents pay for this... I am a college student and don't want to tell my parents that I brick my phone by doing something illegal :)

Also, is there anyone out there who installed OS6 on Telus network? Is it working properly after deleting the vendor file?

    I know we have the delete the following as well;
    net_rim_theme_tmobile_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod and
    net_rim_theme_tmobileeu_BlackBerry6_480x360_b.cod

Let me know how is it on Telus.

    THANK YOU.

    ivancab

i did what that guy said and tried to change my vendor id. but when i tried to save it it did not let me. i dont' know why. so I had to go back to os 5 since i the icons looked very small.

I COPIED these steps from someone else: i think from user "unexpectedly" or something.

Took me several times to get it working. HERE ARE SOME TIPS:

Follow the steps outlined below EXACTLY.

This is what happened to me:

-I tried to delete the t-mobile theme .cod files like what a whole bunch of the other people said to do. that was on my first attempt, and i would get stuck after the phone tries installs os 6 on the device, but an error message that says "cannot connect to device. you may have to enter your password on your device and try again". THEN I reinstalled everything and did not delete or do anything to the files. after reintalling everything and not touching any of the files, i installed it on my phone and it worked. just do as listed below and it will work.

-make sure blackberry desktop software is up to date. update to the latest version. mine wasnt the latest version and after i installed the OS6 device software .exe file, it wouldn't recognize on my desktop manager therefore it wouldn't load onto the phone.

-i did wipe my phone using BBSAK, and i think it's a good idea to do it because i've had issues with my bold before with other software problems. that way, i was working with a clean slate.

    _________
FOLLOW THESE STEPs and it should be fine, if you are with Rogers at least.

    Steps that worked for me:
    1. Download the file and run the EXE (Windows only)(wait 1-5 mins)
    2. If you don't already have the latest version of Blackberry Desktop Software v6, install it. Otherwise, run it.
    3. Plug in your BB9700 and perform a full backup. (wait 5-10mins)
    4. Exit BB Desktop Manager
    4. Download the latest version of BBSAK (utility to wipe your OS clean) at http://www.bbsak.org/
    5. Install it and run it. (Optional: If you wish to backup 3rd party apps, click on the "Backup Apps" button)
    6. To completely wipe the device, and to avoid any compatibility issues when upgrading from 5.0 to 6.0, click on the "Wipe Device" button. (wait 5-10min)
    7. Now, your device will reboot and it will display an 507-error. This is normal. It means the wipe was successful.
    8. Open BB Desktop Manager and it should recognize the latest version 6.0 that you're previously installed.
    9. Once it installs, in BB Desktop Manager, press the Device button, then "Restore" button. To restore all your contacts/emails/wifi/calendar/etc.
    10. Once it restores your BB data, you can use the BBSAK to also restore 3rd party apps by clicking on "Restore Apps" (I skipped this step and installed them manually to avoid any compatibility issues)
    11. OS 6.0 should work beautifully now.
    12. I noticed a few BB applications were missing, so i opened up BB Desktop Software, clicked on "Applications", then selected my favorites: Password Keeper, Social Feeds. Then press "Apply" button. (wait 1-5min)
    13. I checked the free space available (Options/Device/Storage) right after OS6.0 install. It was 98.4 MB.
    14. I installed my usual apps (BerryBuzz,BerryWeather,Twitter,BB App World,Superstore,LastPass) and the free space was now at 75.6 MB.
    15. Conclusion: OS v6.0.0.344 works beautifully on the Blackberry 9700 with lots of free space!

after it was installed, ive noticed some glitches and bugs:

can't use alt+scroll left/right to select text in all of the input fields.
-did not working in the url bar in the browser

paste didn't work when trying to paste a phone number to any of the phone number fields when editing a contact in address book

when scrolling through text in BBM, there is no cursor. i pressed 'alt' and then it appeared. alt + scroll left/right was still working.

after installation, there were several standard apps missing from my phone including:
    -all the games
    -document to go
    -password keeper
    -all instant messaging apps
    -blackberry app world
i had to connect my phone to my computer and loading the applications which were unchecked in the app loader on bb desktop manager.
-social feeds was not installed, and i did not install it because i did not like it on my torch. just wastes battery.

I tried to install Rogers My Account app, will not install, and fails every time i try to. ERROR Message: "907 invalid COD"

besides that, the OS is working very well.
    very fast
    very smooth
browser loading pages much faster than before
battery life is lasting much longer.
-9 hours since i unplugged form charger, 90% battery level

i used the Torch prior to loading 0s6 onto my 9700, and i can honestly say, it is much smoother and faster to operate on my bold than my torch. big screen was nice, but the make of the 9700 is awesome. it has the best feel out of all the blackberry s IMO. i have owned and used 4 different ones.

overall experience is good. the few glitches are annoying, but nothing major. definitely better than OS 5 and worth it to switch over.

I finally got around to update my Bold 9700 to OS6 it works great. Only a couple of features do not work...the application centre and there is no social feeds icon!

Looking on various videos, the software seems different. Many videos show the name of the app under the icon, where the names of the apps appear on the main tab menu. Is this the newer vesrion?

Like most people, I would like to be able to move apps from favourites to download etc and clear space but I guess that's something for the future!

I love my Bold 9700 but still not sure whether to go to the 9780 or wait for the official update via Vodafone UK, whenever that will be!

Overall, love the phone and the new software!!!

    Hi guys,

I installed OS6 yesterday and I am havin quite a hard time with SMS. After I send it, I shows stupid red clock instead of "D" like delivered next to the bubble. Any suggestions?

    thecrab

I also have this issue with text, but not all the time. And it does seem to eventually send. Is this a known issue?
Besides this and the missing cursor, the OS has been working great.

Ok, nevermind what I said. This is AWESOME! I can't believe I have OS6 on my 9700! Thank you Crackberry and Jeffreii.

    Hotchanna

I installed this on my 9700 yesterday and got nothing of the OS6 experience. The background was white, my icons were tiny. The device was functioning eg send/receive phone calls, receive texts but I couldn't access them because it was hard to find what icon was highlighted. So unless a better leak is released, I'll wait for the official release.

Hey Guys I got 6.0.0.358.zip of http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=407 line and load it in my 9700, I did notice that my memory is very low now and it freezes on me from time to time… I have a couple of apps that I love with the OS5 leaving me with almost 27 mb….

Is there anything that I can do to improve this? Is there a newer better version of OS 6?

    BoldBoy1408

Just downloaded to my 9700, absolutely perfect. Web shortcuts all work fine, took a while to gather all my pictures when first installed, but my BB is running smoother than ever :) glad I didnt splash on a new 9780!!

Downloaded OS6 and installed it as instructed. everything seems to be working fine but my BBM.. non of my display pictures load. it was working on my OS5 but now it doesnt .. is anybody experiencing the same problem?? how can i fix this?

i instaled chinese on my bb bold 9700. with this up grade would it remove my chinese from the phone??

    jo_sal77

A weeks past now and so far a very good update... I'm sticking with it...

Only prob I encountered was my BBC I-Player app/weblink doesn't appear to work since upgrade. Says "Your phone is not supported" (The sites help section says that supported phones are 9700 or Storm 2). I think it has something to do with the Web Browser not telling the site it's a 9700.
