Ok, I'll admit it - I'm addicted to this one. Fieldrunners 2 for BlackBerry 10 has to be the best tower defense style game to date. I've not really been a fan of this type of game in the past but it looks like that has now changed. I didn't get around to playing the original version on another platform and I can now see I was missing out - this one is gorgeous.
Each of the levels are unique and you'll need to place your weapons strategically to ensure the Fieldrunners can't escape to the end of the path. You have three main weapons at your disposal - a machine gun turret, one that slows the bad guys down and a missile - all of which can be upgraded. As you destroy the Fieldrunners you'll earn cash and you will need this in order to place more weapons. As you'll see in the video, each weapon costs a different price and you'll also need to use money to upgrade their strength.
There's a whole host of enemies - some on foot and some in vehicles, so depending on what's on-screen will depict how much fire power is required to destroy it. There are some additional weapons you can buy at the end of each level - which include air strikes and explosive traps.
Up at the top right of the display you'll see a heart shaped icon and this contains the number of Fieldrunners that are allowed to escape. If more than that amount get past your guns it will be game over. As you'll see below there's a vast array of styles of level which adds some nice variation to the game. This reduces the game getting repetitive.
Everything about Fieldrunners 2 is awesome. The graphics rock, the sound effects are beautiful and the game play is as smooth as can be. If you have three bucks spare I would strongly urge you to give this one a go, but don't blame me if you can't put it down!
The game is available for all BlackBerry 10 handsets, although due to screen size I think you'll get the best experience with the Z10 for sure. In fact, if you play it on the Q10 or Q5 feel free to let us know how things are in the comments.
