Many people were surprised and disappointed when Google announced that they were discontinuing Reader, which would eventually result in many popular RSS apps and services ceasing to work. Luckily, there are always alternatives, and this set of circumstances will allow other developers to step up and show us what they've got in terms of a replacement for Reader. One such company looking to fill the future void left by the discontinuation of Google Reader is Feedly.

Already quite popular among Android, iOS, and desktop users, Feedly announced in a recent interview that they do have plans to make a BlackBerry 10 app, as well as Windows Phone and Windows 8 apps. Feedly already has over 3 million users, and an additional 500,000 were added after the announcement by Google. Undoubtedly many of those already established users are also BlackBerry users (either people carrying multiple devices or using the Feedly service on Firefox, Chrome, or Safari) and the decision to develop for BlackBerry 10 came after many people requested the app.

This is good news all around, both for BlackBerry users and the Feedly team, which is actually fairly small. Keeping that in mind, it might take some time for Feedly to come to BlackBerry 10, but it's great to know that it is in our future. In the meantime, be sure to check out our post on the top 10 news apps that are currently available for BlackBerry 10 at the link below.
