For those of you that enjoy watching YouTube videos on your BlackBerry 10 device, but prefer to use an app rather than the browser, you'll be pleased to hear that the awesome app FastTube has been updated to version 1.8.0.36 - bringing a few extra slices of goodness.

We first took a look at the app on video when it was first released and I was rather impressed. With 'Built for BlackBerry' certification it sure makes for a great alternative to the browser if you prefer to use a native application, like me.

New editions in this latest version:

  • Preloading of videos added
  • A Preload button is introduced so that you can cache a video locally to eliminate buffering for the same video every time
  • Minor bug fixes

FastTube is free to download for all BlackBerry 10 handsets. If you don't already have it, give it a shot and feel free to sound off in the comments. I'm sure the developer would appreciate your feedback.

zeon mohamedd

To preloade I must be signed in...and it says account support is a premium feature that's mean it is not free

I'm curious why these reviews aren't alwaysFULLY up front. I appreciate that it's described as "Free to Download" but why not finish the sentence with "the fully functional version costs $x.xx?" Are you marketing or are you reviewing?

While I appreciate Crackberry highlighting this app, I would be more appreciative of a comprehensive review.

I saw that too. I'll be deleting it.

It won't tell me how much it is to go premium if I wanted to.

You should mention that pre loading is only for paid users, so it's not really free like described.

Delete FB and Reinstall usually solves the problem.

Love this app.. the best YouTube app on any platform... One feature that I would love however, is to have the ability to keep playing a video or music video while browsing for the next one.. but I have a feeling that cascades has no such APIs yet.... Hmmm... come to think of it, hopefully BlackBerry engineers come up with an update where they add the ability to keep playing media in the "media card thing in apps" while rest of the menus could still be accessed... kina bit of a multi tasking within cascades apps... now that would be totally sweet...

Yes. That should be done.
I want this feature from day one.

Sorry to say, FastTube is NOT the best YouTube app there is. You should try SuperTube for YouTube. That app is miles ahead of this one. It has more features and it allows the music or video to keep playing in the background while you browse for other stuff. All it requires is a simple gesture. The features that SuperTube has totally outclasses the ones FastTube has. I used both, but now exclusively use SuperTube because it is way better. Go have a look and try it out. The developer is also very responsive to feedback.

Downloading supertube right away!!!

How much is it to go premium within the app?

This is a great app.

Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes

Preload works well but there is a bug that takes you out of your videos you are watching and to the menu. When you try and go back in to the video it plays two at once

Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes

I think premium was $2 for those wondering

Forget preloading, that's something I would never use. What I wish they would do is make it so videos can play in the background while the app is minimized or while I have my phone in the holster like the youtube site through the browser could do...

Ben1232

I'm typing this whilst a YouTube video is playing on the FastTube app. I can play with the screen off too.

This was a new feature a couple of updates ago.

To the post who asked about the sd card...no as YouTube don't allow their videos to be saved so these devs have found a way around it by letting us Cache them....I don't fully understand either but it works, and better than Downtube does too.

Oh, it's a "premium" feature... I am still using the free version, that's why... What a load of crap, lol.

dad2bandm

Not even free, to minimize to an active app, unless you want all audio/video to stop. That's the reason I just stick with browser.

Or use SuperTube for YouTube. The playing in the background thing is free

I just tried supertube, it's a little buggy. Videos sometimes play, sometimes don't. Usually it takes a few tries of going back and hitting play again to get a video to play... Don't get me wrong, it's a decent app that offers some nice features, but I prefer the responsiveness of the browser or fast tube, so I just deleted it...

Great buy no lie! Get it,
support this fantastic app :)

I thought the Fasttube was great until I tried searching for something. It wouldn't find it.
I found it on Youtube and copied the exact name over and tried searching. No luck.
I installed Youtube onto my Z10 and running perfect. Can't sign in but no worries.

First Igram and now Fast tube. I'm starting to see a pattern for MY device.
