This useful utility application popped up in the store this week and I couldn't help but take a look. From forums member and resident BlackBerry 10 developer SCrid2000 (aka SCrApps), the one behind one of my favorite apps Z Theme, comes this utility application. Drawing inspiration from a forums member who sought a quick way to compose a text message with as few steps as possible from the hub, he answered the call and the result is this application whose name says it all.

Fast Text is neat and simple application that allows users to instantly compose text messages by bypassing any additional screens or steps that may go with it. There is a convenient help menu when launched, though the startup screen is customizable under the settings heading.

There are three ways to send an SMS from within the application: Launch Contact Picker, Launch SMS Composer, and Send to Last Contact. All you have to do is tap on the selection you prefer and go from there. Each of these ways makes sending a little bit easier and quicker, especially for those of us whose family and friends still prefer this method of communication. At times I don't always want to scroll through the list in the hub just to continue a prior conversation. A former employer of mine was always searching for apps and programs to reduce the number of clicks to improve productivity. Fast Text does exactly that and is a great little application.

For those who are powers users when it comes to texting, I do see this as a handy application for firing off a quick SMS to friends, family members or co-workers. Fast Text for BlackBerry 10 is $.99 for all BlackBerry 10 handsets.

Agree,
Also with increasing third party suppliers how do we know that copies of the message are not being stored for data mining and sold on?

Good question.
I'm not entirely sure how I can alleviate that fear. I absolutely 100% promise you that I do absolutely no data collection AT ALL with this app. As a solo developer, I simply don't have any use for it. I don't know if that assurance is sufficient, so if there's anything else you can think of that I can do to reassure you, let me know.

Haha idiot you are NOT first! Maybe you wouldn't look like a retard if you decided not to say first at all. Bravo, bravo

Ahaha! While you bash on firsters, you seem to be the "First" one to start the bashing.....so that kinda makes you part of the FIRST revolution with us firsters. BRAVO!

Nor me. Solves the uppermost tier of first world problems, in a BlackBerry App World of apps which tend to do the same. Only this one would possibly win the Most Trivial stakes!

Awesome! Except you have Hub for exactly that.

More fart apps that do nothing, more garbage that populates mobile OSes. One day when users od on hunger for apps it will all revert back to normal.

Great app and very nicely done, well worth a mere $0.99 for sure. We need more developers like this to continue to create useful, affordable apps that help us work better and faster on our BlackBerrys. We need to encourage these creative thinking developers instead of criticizing them. Thank you.

Same here! Oh, sorry for being a little off topic here but I totally love your Jolla picture! You're supporting Sailfish OS? I'm also supporting Sailfish OS. High five!

Tried this app because i have another app by this developer...email list...required because BB10 doesn't have the ability to create "contact lists"....not that I could see.

Oh gee, I better get this app! So useful, I just need to buy it for $1 and I can do what my phone already does, but with an extra active frame! Holy shit, just take my money.

This is like opening a door but taking the time to modify it so that you can twist the doorknob the opposite direction. No fucking point.

Seriously, I'm sick and tired of the low quality apps on BlackBerry World, it's disgusting and it has to stop. Get some quality control BlackBerry, get your diginity up a little, it's the least you can do.

And for the record, this isn't a personal jab at Scrd, it's probably a useful app, but I've seen so many other apps who just happen to pass on to BlackBerry World no problem that are just garbage and looking at this one made me tick off.

No worries, and no offense taken. I understand that this app won't be for everyone. But it was made in response to a specific problem posted here in the forums, so I hope some people will find it useful.

Keep up the good work SCrid2000. It's good to see devs supporting BlackBerry any way they can. Don't pay attention to the negative comments. Some people fail to realize that not all apps are tailored for their personal use and forget that perhaps for other it is.

MePiikan...you shall not be forgotten.

Good show, fine sir.

While it isn't anything I will find necessary, if it is filling a need that isn't satisfied, it is still useful.

Keep up the good work man, and thanks for supporting BB10!

People have to realize every app isn't going to be for them.

Posted via CB10

Whoa, settle down djlatino! Apple's app world and Google Play have a HUGE number of totally useless apps. I don't get the over-the-top reactions to apps like this

Posted via CB10

Holy. Sounds like people woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

I really don't see the negatives here. This is probably now my most used ap that I currently have. Once setup, opening the ap takes you directly to to the text composition screen. I send mainly texts and this ap makes it so much faster to do so. For those of you who can't see the benefit of it you are not setting it up properly

Posted via CB10

Based on that, probably 2-7 seconds. But if you multiple that by 100 texts (which some people send per day), that's 200-700 seconds per day, or roughly 2-12 minutes per day, which could save you 12-70 hours per year! ;)

SCrid2000, I'm sold, will be downloading.
Also thanks for coming back to my earlier query.
Also my apologies for not texting my concern in a more effective manner.

I don't get when this costs money when it's actually faster to type in someone's name then compose text natively (no a word I know :P) or swipe for the hub and compose text select person is the same amount of clicks.

Posted via CB10

Actually I just swiped to the hub and its only 2 clicks to compose a text not counting the swipe

I have one complaint from BB that many of apps are free on android where as those free apps are one payment on BB, I am complaining coz I am from Pakistan and PayPal is not available for Pakistan.

Posted via CB10

What kinda waste of money and time cap is this... BB already have the text message app, text in the hub and the best predictive text writing! And this cap is suppo to do what! Again!? #Stupid

Posted via CB10

This app must be for people with touchscreen BB10 phones. Interesting idea though. Any app that helps increase productivity by letting people do things faster should be welcomed to BlackBerry World.

it actually takes more clicks to do this then the other 3 ways (type "text matt",hub, message icon itself) there is natively on BB10. So in reality it's less productive.

If he makes a better group messaging(text, email, etc) settings or preset selected broadcast setting for BBM that would be more productive.

The ap is just a faster access point to the built in text message of the Z 10. One click of the ap and you are in the text message composition screen. No swiping required. As long as the ap is initially setup to do so. One nice option to is that you can set it up to text message the last person you texted last as most of my texts are to my girlfriend which makes this even more quicker
For those of you that don't like it, so be it. I find it very handy!

Posted via CB10

in reality its more clicks since you can already be in the text message by 2 clicks my BB hub. this is no different then the BB hub icon it self which is less productive then the swipe way.

If he makes a better group messaging(text, email, etc) settings or preset selected broadcast setting for BBM that would be more productive.

Is anything faster than using the media button and native voice commands? Example: "send text to Joe - mobile- I'll be there at 4pm." send (or reply "yes" to the prompt)

The dashes represent slight pauses. This works almost flawlessly for me and I'm still on 10.1. I think I heard the voice commands are much improved with 10.2.

Are you saying cable, rogers on demand, satellite is useless too since you have to pay more for less? Please use logic before you post.

People are saying this useless because there are 3 other ways that are easier and there is nothing that differs this from using the HUB icon itself (which is the slowest way).
There is nothing to differ this from anything else.

I just start typing "text john" and viola via Q10 and the Z10 is the the same with the addition of the search button I don't get the use for this one but to each is own.

I was labeled a troll for stating I was frustrated after seeing several articles about smartwatches and here we have people bashing an app because it's not for them. I was told to just ignore the smartwatch articles and I listened. Now you app bashers listen up clearly, if an app does not pertain to you simply ignore it because I don't want you to get labeled a troll like some idiot did me.

Have a great Sunday!

Keep The Faith  BlackBerry Q10 

I don't think it's an issue if the comments posted are constructive. Yeah, there are trolls who are out to bash for no reason.

However, this site is useful if it challenges the reasons behind an app being released, and it's usefulness.

Credit to the developer who posted a response to my comment about the text message being stored and data mined. Now that eases my mind, yes I'm willing to try this out. It's great that the developer came on and I'm sure a few others are willing to give it a try too.

Everybody thinks they're the 'anti-troll' when in reality, we're all troll-ish by association. Trolling trolls.

Posted via CB10

Good one.

We can be trolling the trolls, re-trolling, counter-trolling, troll-bashing etc. OR simply ignore them. What ever cuts down on the noise. Don't fall for the bait the troll is laying out. ;-)

Having said that, I respect anyone's reasonable opinion, even if I don't agree with them. Some occasions you find yourself disagreeing at first, but then change your view because of someone's reasonable post. Information wins, regardless of our own point of view.

My name is Prem, I'm using BBM ... from my QuZe10 ...whatarhyme...

I'm stoked that people make apps. Before I start to 'troll' somebody who produced an app, I better start making apps first. Anyways, keep up the great work coders!

For myself, I found it impractical. Easier for me to just go into the hub and click on the incoming text. What I'd like to see is an app that bypasses the hub altogether and goes directly into sms like bbm.

Posted via CB10 on my Z30

This is exactly what this ap does.. You set it up to go directly to text composition, and it bypasses the hub entirely, and goes directly into the composition mode . You simply click the ap icon, and it takes you directly there. Using the native text icon, it requires 1 click, and 2 swipes to get there.. And all depending what position the hub was in before you closed it , could take 2 clicks and 2 swipes.. This only requires one click, and voila... This may seem like a small time savings, but it all adds up in the run of a day.

I think this is cool. Though I won't use it, I was on the thread that requested this app. The developer said ok, you want it, I'll get it to you fast, and, an hour later it was submitted for approval. We want guys like this. When I need an app, I'm going to him with my idea.

Posted via CB10

Great story.
I wish every app need would be answered that quick.

Even though I don't yet see a lot of use for that app myself, I can see the use case for heavy texters.

My name is Prem, I'm using BBM ... from my QuZe10 ...whatarhyme...

I was actually the one that initially posted in the crack berry forum, regarding my issue I had with the way it is right now.. And the developer actually saw my post, and created an ap , that addressed my concerns.. Hats off to any developer out there who actually listens to what we say in Crack berry and responds in a positive way, whether or not all of us agree with its usefulness.

This app isn't something I'd be using personally ;but from the looks of it it's very well thought out. Good to see quality apps and responsive developers in BlackBerry world!

BlackBerry by choice, blackberry for life.

Hm no use for me on my Q10. I can simply type sms +contact on homescreen and instantly start composing. Or am I missing something?
