Facebook for BlackBerry has made its way though the Beta Zone paces and is now available in BlackBerry App World. Version 3.1.0.17 brings along Facebook Groups support as well as the ability to "like" comments and view "likes". This version seems to be pretty good so far, but be sure to hit up the comments below with your findings. You can grab it free now in BlackBerry App World from the link below.

I'm using 3.1.0.17, I also used the latest one from Beta. In this version I can also like the comments though. I can also see the groups icon when I click the dropdown menu on the app.

Liking comments works... click the plus sign for a comment you want to like.

Same here! Tried un-installing and re-installing and still doesn't work. Also, in the app it says there's an upgrade available but it showes that I havs the right version. Weird....All that to keep what I already had!

dude, it's in the bottom left corner of the pull down menu titled "FACEBOOK". uninstall all fb apps and files related to Facebook for blackberry from your phone. not sure which os ur running. then reinstall the fb again and it has to be there.

I too was running the beta and had the same problems when I upgraded to 3.1.0.17 from App World. I tried removing and re-installing the app, to no avail. I discovered that when I would check for a newer version, it would tell me there was one available, even though I was on 3.1.0.17. So I tried installing the upgrade from the web download instead of the App World download, and it solved all my problems, got back all the features that were added, like viewing groups, liking comments and viewing likes. Give that a shot and see if it works for you.

Try www.blackberry.com/facebook through your mobile browser and choose the non-App World download.

That worked. Thanks!

rim should stop building their own twitter and facebook apps. facebook and twitter should be the ones bulding the apps

  • Reply

Alphax45 Jun 20, 2012 at 1:16 pm

RIM is doing it because FB and Twitter have already said they won't build for BB. Maybe with BB10 that will change.

  • Reply

cbdave Jun 21, 2012 at 2:09 am

RIM develops the apps because the APIs required to make them function like they do are not ones they are willing to open up for use by developers.

Made me down grade my beta zone version, to an older version (3.0.0.15). Did that then upgraded to this new version. Now I lost my ability to like comments. Crayp.

Tried this from above poster:

"Try www.blackberry.com/facebook through your mobile browser and choose the non-App World download."

That did the trick for me, all is good again.

Yep. AppWorld is not showing the update yet. But downloading from the BlackBerry website works perfectly!

Going to save time now, no need to head over to the mobile site to view group activity!!

Went to open my Beta FB app and it said new update available.
Downloaded and installed with no issues.

BTW, I hate it when folks post " downloading now" No sh1t Sherlock!

There is still the old version on the AppWorld to download, but with the new version number. Very confusing!!! If you want the real version 3.1.0.17, you have to do:

www.blackberry.com/facebook through your mobile browser and choose the non-App World download

RIM should fix this stupid bug asap.

The notification came right from my Facebook app, Clicked and took me to the blackberry download page, with correct version (I was running the beta). Installed and running.

Seems notifications are working.

Photos, thumbs, and clicking on them are better now. Used to be some thumbs were just outline box with x, and/or clicking on some photos would take forever to load, or wouldn't load at all. Most are now working, and loading quite a bit quicker too.

You can now download from BB appworld, the correct is now uploaded.

Finally showing the groups in the app!!!
I also had to download from the blackberry page and not app world but that is neither here nor there... Not a big deal in my opinion.
Anyway, much beter to view the groups in the app instead of going to the browser!!!

MaxPayne79 Jun 20, 2012 at 4:05 pm

hun, this app's been out in the beta for like a half a year now. accessible to you as well if you wanted it. can't believe you were using the browser to check groups. :(

nothing to be confused about. the pictured device has 3.1.0.16 on it... hence theres an "Upgrade Available".

Looks like at this point in time App World still has the wrong version of Facebook (even though the version number has been changed).

Had to do it like everyone else via the browser, which ended up smoothly.

Why is there still no event support?!

The grid has a gap that needs filling!

i wouldnt mind if the mobile site would actually allow you to modifiy your events but it doesnt.

when can we have some event support !

Thanks for the tip going through browser. Works more reliable than the Beta.

When I see they release a new version of FB, I always try it out then usually end up just using the browser and then deleting the app. I'll give this a try, though.

breakmedown Jun 21, 2012 at 12:49 am

I remember why I don't use it, it doesn't work over WiFi!

  • Reply

Yeah, that should be changed.
