Facebook for BlackBerry v2.0 update now available in Beta Zone
Facebook for BlackBerry v2.0 has been available in the beta zone for a few weeks now, and today RIM has issued another refresh of the popular social networking application. Version 2.0 brings along a new UI for the app as well as Facebook chat and more. The refreshed version is available today for enrolled Beta Zone members. Features include:
- Support for BlackBerry OS 5.0 - The beta app now supports BlackBerry smartphones with BlackBerry OS 5 and above.
- Facebook Chat Enhancements
- Know when a friend is typing a message by the visual cue of "is typing a message"
- Filter Online Contacts to quickly find a specific friend and start a Chat message.
- Mutual Friends and Friends List - Discover which friends you have in common with other users via the Info tab on Profiles (dependent on Privacy Settings of the user).
- Enhanced integration with BlackBerry native apps - Click on PINs, Phone Numbers, and email addresses displayed in Wall posts, messages or the Info tab, to perform the respective action (e.g., place a call) or save the information to your BlackBerry Contacts application
The new version can be found in the BlackBerry Beta Zone today.

Have they fixed the bug where deleting a facebook message from the BB messages app deletes the actual message from the FB website yet? Until they do I'm not upgrading my FB ap.
jope28 May 6, 2011 at 10:50 am
double post
sk8er_tor May 6, 2011 at 11:27 am
I don't think that's a bug but I see what you mean. I've removed integration with my Inbox so all messages stay within the Facebook app.
visualpurple May 6, 2011 at 12:09 pm
I call it a bug facetiously, because it's something that detracts from the usability of the app. I want to be able to view facebook notifications quickly through the messages app, but I don't want IMAP-esque syncing. I want to be able to clear notifications without the actual message being deleted.
Jleeblanch May 6, 2011 at 11:18 pm
I agree with what you're saying...somewhat. It would be legit if deleting Facebook notifications was like deleting any other messages; where you were given the option to delete on Mailbox and/or Handheld; but instead it just deletes it.
For some reason tho I thought even tho I deleted them off my BB, they were still on the web/mobile site. Hmm, gonna have to look into that.

PostMortem May 6, 2011 at 10:34 am
I was beginning to wonder if they were not going to make this available to BB OS 5.
rkopsie May 6, 2011 at 10:36 am
for some reason it won't let me download it onto my 9630 :(
Anyone else having problems?? for OS 5.0.0.975
Aalejandro May 6, 2011 at 10:48 am
Yeah same here after agreeing to participate in the program , when get to the second page to agree ... I get no option to agree to move on from there ....
jem9777 May 6, 2011 at 10:51 am
I ran into the same thing, so I logged in on my desktop computer and was able to agree to move on there. Then when I went back to my phone the download screen was available.
rkopsie May 6, 2011 at 10:58 am
But I don't have access to a cimputer :( damn it I wish someone would be nice enough to long in for me & so I can try downloading from my phone again :(
Aalejandro May 6, 2011 at 11:09 am
Hey I didn't log in my computer as I'm nowhere close to my lappy , I just logged in on my phone using ' BOLT Browser'
Aalejandro May 6, 2011 at 11:01 am
Thanks much man just did that and it worked
Judson50 May 7, 2011 at 5:49 pm
You have to agree on desktop computer, you cannot do this step on the phone.
robertpatin May 6, 2011 at 7:42 pm
works fine on mine 9630 with the same OS logged in on my tour facebook download work perfect
Jai Manny May 6, 2011 at 10:47 am
can anyone extract it and create a OTA for the non beta users?
chevrolet.racing252 May 6, 2011 at 11:52 am
Jai,
That would be pointless because the app requires a pin-calculated keycode in order to run on your phone after installing.
Best thing to do is just join Beta Zone....its a free membership and once u give them ur pin they will be able to generate keycodes for any beta programs you chose to participate in. I don't use facebook at all, but my wife and sister both do and both of them are currently running BBM6 beta and facebook beta on their phone, and I was part of the BBM5 and now BBM6 programs myself. Even tried BlackBerry Traffic, Podcast and news reader when they first came out.
It's a free program and it let's u communictate with RIM ur thoughts, feedback, bugs and feature suggestions.
datta72 May 6, 2011 at 12:50 pm
Last time I check, the Beta Zone is currently not accepting new members at this time.
Jai Manny May 6, 2011 at 1:54 pm
Thanks for reply!
been waiting for a year to get a beta invitation, but nothing yet.
Mr One 2 May 6, 2011 at 11:00 am
Glad they are still supporting us OS5 peeps!!! Downloaded without issue. Kept all my previous settings intact as well! Seems smooth so far!!
elvin1983 May 6, 2011 at 11:02 am

djkac May 6, 2011 at 11:09 am
I also can not download it on my 9630. I get to the part where it says I must acknowledge the license but I can't get passed it. I don't see where to click or accept it to go to the next step.
djkac May 6, 2011 at 11:24 am
I did the PC thing and it worked.
mckillio May 6, 2011 at 11:37 am

lachmi May 6, 2011 at 11:57 am
I hope RIM did something with battery drain. First version of this beta was quite battery eater ;-)
theHip May 6, 2011 at 12:09 pm
Why no Facebook Events??? I have always wondered this. How are you supposed to check out Event walls, and who is/isn't attending?
manimal437 May 9, 2011 at 3:22 pm
Amen.
SC457 May 6, 2011 at 12:13 pm

Appreciate the 5.0 love, new logo, new look and feel. Haven't had it long enough to work it, but I like the "new-ness" feel.
djek500 May 6, 2011 at 12:48 pm

mzceetee May 6, 2011 at 12:50 pm
Running smooth no issues so far on my 9330 OS 6.0.0.522 Sprint..impress with the new enhancements of FB...
Niz May 6, 2011 at 12:53 pm
GEEZ, who do you have to blow to get this?! I've filled out COUNTLESS pages, been through about 15 links/emails.. and now I'm waiting for a "key code"?! This cannot be worth it!
mzceetee May 6, 2011 at 1:07 pm
sign in to your beta zone account on your Blackberry-goto my account -then it will have a link called keycodes from there you will find FB 2.0 key program and click keycode link next to it-it will send the keycode to your device...
Smmrgrl May 6, 2011 at 2:24 pm
my screen says "no existing keycode found"
I registered successfully but how do I get this keycode if it says one doesn't exist?? The link to request another also does not exist for me to click on.
>sad face<
Judson50 May 7, 2011 at 5:51 pm
You have to download the program first. Then the key code is automated.
Guatiao May 6, 2011 at 1:10 pm
Closer to make me not use FB on a PC... Lol!!!! Nice new features indeed!
aulee May 6, 2011 at 1:17 pm

"We're sorry, the application form is not yet available for your country. We are adding new country locations over time. Please be patient as we continue to expand across the globe."
Any possibility to fix this problem?
Bilaal May 6, 2011 at 7:25 pm
Trying to use BOLT now, see if that can let me continue onto the next page. Gotta love having 3 browsers on your BB, right? :| :/
Yup, BOLT will do the trick if you have no access to a computer.
JudasShawn May 6, 2011 at 7:22 pm
Have they restored the check STATUS UPDATE option in this version? They omited the Status Update view in the first version and its rather annoying. I dont give a rats ass about what pictures people have uploaded or what games people are playing. Having only News Feed SUCKS!
Anyone?
Jleeblanch May 6, 2011 at 11:52 pm
They are a menu option in version 2.0.x. *View News Feed*, *View Status Updates*, *View Photos*, *View Links*, it's all there after pressing the BB () button when on the main screen of the app. :)
sreidenb May 6, 2011 at 7:25 pm
Thank god, I can get it on my storm now!
chiripio May 6, 2011 at 8:15 pm
Really nice application much netter works great on my 8520.
Gamesdmc3 May 6, 2011 at 8:38 pm
Nice enhancements
NinjaChopstick May 6, 2011 at 9:44 pm
Not a big fan of it for 5.0 on my Tour. Not very intuitive for a non touch BB. It now takes 2 clicks to get to my messages or notifications, 1 click to get the "drop down" then i still have to navigate to either the messages or notifications... i know, not much, but when it used to be just 1.. meh.
Judson50 May 7, 2011 at 2:49 pm
I am using on my 5.0.0.979 and the first thing that I don't like, the HUGE "WALL, INFO, PHOTO" tabs.
Other than that, it is lightening quick and awesome. Trying chat now.
su26lax May 7, 2011 at 10:01 pm
Hey I am having an issue where I am trying to download Facebook 2.0 from my browser on my BB and all I keep getting is this error... "Sorry, This download is only available via the Blackberry Browser(OTA)." Why is it that I can't get past this point to download??
bboyhirsty May 8, 2011 at 8:21 pm
I have a 8520c and I've just signed up to crackberry and seen this fb app and it looks really good but I don't know haw to download it.... Please some one help
BigRob673 May 8, 2011 at 10:54 pm
I would like to be able to tag a friend in a post.
manimal437 May 9, 2011 at 3:20 pm
The original post regarding this beta (weeks ago) had a screenshot with an icon for Events. Recent screenshots and the actual beta version don't have the Events feature yet. The iPhone app does have Events. What's the hold-up, anyone know?
The biggest factor keeping me hooked to FB is the Events feature so I'm anxious to know if/when I'll be able to access my FB events without having to go to the mobile site. This app should make the mobile site obsolete but it hasn't quite done that yet.
