*UPDATE* -Looks like Research In Motion pulled the file.

In case you were not amongst the first wave of folks to try out the latest Facebook for BlackBerry in the BlackBerry Beta Zone we have great news. All members of the BlackBerry Beta Zone can now participate and get in on the action. The release is noted as a carrier preview so, we're guessing like all the other stuff coming from the BlackBerry Beta Zone this release or a minimally later version is what will be rolled out soon. It was listed under my eligible programs. I applied for it and everything went well. When I went to download it, it wasn't under my current enrolled programs, nor did I have the option for it again.

  • Reply

Candyapple4u Aug 18, 2010 at 6:39 pm

It was underneath my programs so I applied and downloaded. But when I went to install it asked me for a keycode. They didn't email me one..but they did email me why it was pulled. Bad for me because I already uploaded to my phone and I couldn't use it. Now I gotta delete and install the old Version.

If anyone wants version 1.8.0.31, just google "facebook 1.8.0.31" and you'll see a way to download it and install it without any key required - just follow the steps. It will be the second link on the Google search from a site called blackberryrocks.com

Too late. Wish I noticed this work around this morning when I downloaded from BBZ! Now stuck waiting on a keycode that probably won't show up since FB 1.8 got pulled from my programs.

I did the walkaround and it shows I have 1.8.0.31 installed but the app doesn't look any different? Should I notice a difference?

  • Reply

scuebydue Aug 18, 2010 at 1:46 pm

The only real difference is the response time in loading. That's about it.

The version pre-installed on the Torch is 1.8.0.39, so I don't understand why they're beta testing older versions (unless .39 is OS 6 specific).

LoSt180 Aug 18, 2010 at 12:37 pm

Signed up this morning, downloaded, don't have a keycode though, can't use it. It's been removed from "My Programs" as of this afternoon.

My guess is the "scheduled update" last night somehow made this available to more people than they had intended. People are reporting in the BBZ forums that it disappeared from their program list as well, so not just my bad luck.

  • Reply

LoSt180 Aug 18, 2010 at 3:05 pm

I was right! Just got an email that basically blames scheduled maintenance for "inadvertently" making 1.8 available. Then goes on to say you're not getting it, and to sit tight and wait for some future release...

  • Reply

buschbrothers218 Aug 18, 2010 at 12:37 pm

I was about to download this version when I realized that my Facebook version is 1.8.0.47. So, why is 1.8.0.30 just now beta?

  • Reply

LoSt180 Aug 18, 2010 at 12:40 pm

You must have a Torch then. I heard FB 1.8 came pre-loaded on those. Now why don't you dump the .cod files with BBSAK or something so the rest of us can give it a try! lol

  • Reply

buschbrothers218 Aug 18, 2010 at 12:47 pm

If there is updates I am not seeing them. Didn't even realize it was a different version than what I had on my 9700. Dumping .cod files is way over my head. LOL

I had the leak running for a couple days on my 9650 but wasn't getting very good notifications, some came through while most others didn't. As far as speed it rocked! Hope they get released for everybody soon.

i found it it's downloading i did an ota after i did what sk8er_tor posted to do. the link on bb beta zone was gone for now. so this should be good and if anything needed updated it's Facebook for blackberry.

  • Reply

RedBank Aug 18, 2010 at 12:57 pm

I visited the Beta Zone and noticed it was available and downloaded it before they removed it. Didn't have a key...so I emailed them and recv'd key within 5 minutes.

You guys aren't missing too much...so dont sweat it.

The biggest improvement would be that how quickly it updates your friend list...almost immediately (used to take foreverrrrrrr).

GUI is exactly the same

Followed sker tor's advice and checked out Blackberryrocks.com. It doesn't look different, is the UI supposed to be different, or is this more of a behind the scenes, improved perfomance update? I haven't had a chance to fiddle with it just yet.

Thanks for sharing that info Sker!

@sg4real76 - RE: your "Share the keycode" request.

There is nothing to share. Each "KeyCode" is generated based on your devices PIN. It' a security feature in the beta zone.

While I missed the window on this, I have KeyCodes for other programs I'm participating in for the Beta Zone. I could post every one of those keys and none of them would do anyone any good. They will only work on my device. The Beta software uses a security "Hash" that checks the code aganist the PIN on the device.

Sorry!

Cpt.GargameL Aug 18, 2010 at 1:50 pm

I went to the BBZ and it was pulled as everyone is saying but I googled it and downloaded it from bbrocks and I'm currently running version 1.8.0.31.

The changes I've noticed:
Increase in news feed load time, almost instantly as I scroll.
When you go into the friends area it loads instantly
When you click on a picture a pop up box comes up asking if you "like" "want to comment" or "view comments" on the picture
You can scroll for a WHILE on the feeds, no need to quickly hit "view more"

Overall it is a good solid improvement over the previous version.

Last night, improvements were made to BlackBerry Beta Zone during a scheduled maintenance. While this update was being implemented, the Facebook 1.8.0 - Carrier Preview Beta Program was inadvertently made available on your homepage. This was done in error and the program has since been closed and is no longer available. Please disregard any keycodes sent to you as the application is not available.

I downloaded the leaked version and must say the overall speedup of FB is much better! Much less lag than there was before. In comparison, loading time feels instant.

The only problem that I have noticed so far was that when viewing comments, there is the "Add Friend" link next to everyone, even if they are already your friend.

I have one major issue with the facebook application for Blackberry. Once you exceed 1,200 friends it starts being really slow and laggy. And I have 1,550 (yes, I actually do know them all.) Does this new version perform better with the load of that many friends or no?

I did the workaround at bbrocks and it worked just fine. The UI is the same like everyone is saying and it loads everything better!!! Very nice.

Pardon my ignorance.. But all that I get is the option to save the .jad file when I use the link above from yodatom10.

I put it on my memory card and it asks for a cod file? What the hell am I doing wrong?

I have a Storm-2

Thanks.

Probably already mentioned, but the beta release that many have already downloaded is 1.8.0.31, not .30. Could this be an older beta or the same thing?

Since the day it came out on Beta Zone. It works okay for the most part - nothing special beyond what was already out there in my opinion. I'm on Storm2, 5.0.0.713

I just received a App World alert asking me to upgrade to 1.8.0.49, without doing anything on Beta Zone...

I saw a posting on the blacberryrocks website that 1.8 does not work on phones with an OS below 5.0. Has anyone loaded it with OS below 5.0?

I just got the new Facebook 1.8.0.49 from App World. After downloading Slacker Radio on my BB, I rebooted my phone. When it came back up I notice my icons were all messed up, That's when I realized my Facebook app was gone. I looked in all my folder and still did not find it, so I decided to just go and redownload it. When I found it, it said v. 1.8.0.49!!! Whooo hooo!!!

I'm a member of BB Beta Zone and when the App wasn't available for me I checked my new phone and found that 1.8.0.39 comes pre-loaded.

I tried downloading it through app world and it was 1.7

So I sent the link from beta zone www.blackberry.com/facebook and selected download directly from your bb browser. Sent the email to my phone. And it just finished~

Just letting yal know.
