It's been a while since the last update for Facebook for BlackBerry but RIM has now got around to loading up the latest release in the BlackBerry Beta Zone. Luckily, they managed to highlight what's new with this release as well. Check it out below:

What’s New?

New features of Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones 3.0 include:

  • BBM Connected App Integration
  • New Facebook Publisher
  • Share with BBM Contact
  • UI Discoverability Improvements
  • Improved Facebook Notifications
  • User-Friendly Error Messages

You can login to the BlackBerry Beta Zone and grab the latest using the link below. Remember, it's a beta so if you find anything wrong with it make sure you send feedback.

How is this any different from the current version?

I mean, is it radically different?

  • Reply

sk8er_tor Feb 22, 2012 at 10:18 am

You should try reading the above information prior to posting!

  • Reply

Dankees Feb 22, 2012 at 10:24 am

Yeah, I read that. It didn't tell me much.

  • Reply

sk8er_tor Feb 22, 2012 at 10:43 am

The UI is not "radically" different but does have a few new additions like the ability to add a location to your status updates, add who you're with, etc.

BBThemes Feb 22, 2012 at 11:14 am

i think people expect a `timeline` view for v3.0
yes the (slight) updates are good like BBM and new posting tabs at the top, but the main UI hasnt changed :(

  • Reply

JasW Feb 22, 2012 at 11:21 am

Actually, I expected video uploading. You can do it from the FB app for the PB. The iPhone FB app has been able to do it for three years. It's not rocket science.

yaa... but for that u need a good hardware isnt ? most of the time the berry is freezing , isn't ?

  • Reply

day_moon Feb 22, 2012 at 1:24 pm

just curious, what berry do you have now?

  • Reply

sk8er_tor Feb 22, 2012 at 2:29 pm

1) I'm so glad there's no timeline.
2) What do some people do to their phones that causes them to freeze? Mine never freezes and I have a bunch of apps on it and I use my phone all day long for all sorts of things.

  • Reply

mssca Feb 22, 2012 at 3:32 pm

Depend on what model and version of the Blackberry, the phone can freeze even when you are just web browsing. I use Bold 9900 with no issues at all. My mom's Bold 9780 sometimes freeze when she open several web pages at the same time.

Must download now! Looking forward to the improved notifications for sure!

Facebook seems to be getting all sorts of updates lately, First the PlayBook and now for my BlackBerry. Can't wait for all the other great updates and new apps to come.

BBM integration. Cool! Hopefully Twitter gets an update soon because I don't get notified of mentions. Its pretty annoying

Your wish has come true lol Twitter has been upgraded in Beta Zone 3.0

  • Reply

radoon Feb 22, 2012 at 10:34 am

So.... Still no proper event or group support. Guess I'll keep waiting and save the space/hassel on my BlackBerry. Facebook for PlayBook is so much better. I know the phones could handle it too.

  • Reply

kennyiceberry Feb 22, 2012 at 11:01 am

Yep, that's needed. It's farcical that attempting to post in a group takes you to the browser!

  • Reply

mckillio Feb 22, 2012 at 12:07 pm

I hate getting notifications for an event that I can't even view. Very annoying. I'll upgrade anyways but that's what I was really hoping for.

mckillio Feb 22, 2012 at 12:09 pm

I also hope you can tag people in posts.

It's too bad that from the Netherlands I can't enter the beta program. It's not allowed...

Is there anyone who could help me to get the new FB Beta? Looking forward to the BBM integration!

Looks good... still can't tag people in a post, but you can tag who you are with. Little changes to the UI. Seems smooth and not as choppy as previous version. "Places" is gone, replaced with "nearby places" or just a simple check-in. Still trying to figure outta the BBM integration. We should get a short how to and explanation list.

  • Reply

blackout626 Feb 22, 2012 at 1:07 pm

The main thing BBM integration allows you to do is just share your latest Facebook status and location check-in as your BBM Personal Message. There are a couple lesser things it allows you to do like access the Facebook app by clicking on Facebook (if it appears on the list of BBM connected apps on a BBM profile) and supposedly getting invites to become a BBM contact through the app somehow... but nothing really exciting. Would have been awesome if BBM integration meant you could use BBM to run your Facebook chats.

Yes... it would be awesome if you could use BBM to run Facebook chats.

Yes, "Places" is gone and replaced by "Nearby Places" (and there's a separate "Check in" tab), but the feature no longer works! Ugh!

I downloaded Facebook upgrade 3.0.0.17 a couple days ago and ever since I cannot get my Facebook Places to work.

Yes, my Location is turned on in my Advanced Settings.
Yes, my "share my location with Facebook" option is checked.
Yes, my Maps address recognition is turned on.
Yes, I've run the GPS fix-location test.
Yes, I'm attempting it outside.
Yes, I've uninstalled Facebook & reinstalled it.

My carrier is Verizon. I'm using a BlackBerry Storm 2 (9550).

What's wrong???

Thanks,
John

For us not living in US/Canada we have issues by getting into the beta zone. I've tried 2-3 times. It would be great if someone could upload this app for us!

I would like to see a drag to refresh option, as well as the ability to like, & view likes on comments.

  • Reply

decypher44 Feb 22, 2012 at 3:55 pm

"as well as the ability to like, & view likes on comments."

That's the first thing I was looking for when I installed it. Bummer....

Too soon to see if the notifications are working better. 2.x was hit-or-miss. Would be working fine one minute, then "poof!".

  • Reply

PJD642 Feb 22, 2012 at 3:53 pm

It worked fine for me for about an hour, and now I'm getting an error message saying the FB server is not available. Gonna D/L again and see what happens.

  • Reply

PJD642 Feb 22, 2012 at 4:36 pm

After reinstall, this time it ran through the setup routine & seems to be working fine.

+1 on hoping notifications will work ALL the time, and still needing video uploads. Seriously, I can take the video on my phone but have use my PC to upload it? DUMB!!

this app so like needs a major ui overhaul. prior to a week ago i haven't used facebook for a full year and when i installed it, i was surprised how "old" it looks. thought v3 would look like twitter for bb but no. dig the new auditions though just wish i'd look "newer" and "fresher". :)

dusan.bukvic Feb 22, 2012 at 5:45 pm

pls upload app , some of us cant register to beta zone

  • Reply

olblueyez Feb 22, 2012 at 5:55 pm

It won't show in the Beta Download section, its driving me nuts. The others are there, but Facebook v3.0 is missing. Makes me wann slap the crap out of someones ears.

  • Reply

photoshop Feb 22, 2012 at 6:59 pm

Downloaded ages ago and still no code received despite requesting one and repeating the download request.

This is the BBM scenario all over again. Not going to bother with twitter v3 until the code sending issues get sorted.

PR1MO1 Feb 22, 2012 at 8:52 pm

I hate that:

1. Comments are still displayed in the wrong order; and

2. Scrolling through photos still sucks, you should be able to "flick" to the next photo (with a touch screen), but if you flick it will just scroll all the way through the photos, makes it fiddly to try get to the next photo in an album

  • Reply

sutobe Feb 22, 2012 at 11:20 pm

they finally should implement an option to delete pictures and albums via your phone because if you go online on your desktop and upload a picture to a friends wall, facebook is creating a second "wall" album which you can only see in the Facebook App.

So when you try to upload a picture via your phone it gives you the choice to upload into two different "Wall Photo" Albums. If you upload it to the wrong one, the picture won't show up ANYWHERE!

RIM does know about this because I had alot of mail contact with them about that issue, still no fix. Couldn't care less for all that BBM integration of the app, just give as the same functions Android users have with their phones!

Did anyone notified ? no "Via Blackberry" tag when post status ... is this common for beta apps ?

This is a cool update.. but I have a few issues on my Bold 9650.. I can't accept friend requests or comment back on status' or photos.. it will constantly keep pending and won't go through.. just a few minor glitches they will fix I'm sure in the official update.. any body else having these issues?

  • Reply

pokey1800 Feb 24, 2012 at 3:31 pm

This certainly has not fixed the issue of not getting any private msgs pushed through to the phone. iPhone can do it I don't know why RIM can't get it right.
