If there is one thing I adore doing, it's trying to find the latest and greatest theme that is not only imaginative and functional but brings something new to the table as well. For those who prefer replica themes, and ones so realistic you can't take your eyes off them, then prepare to be amazed by Desktop7 by drkapprenticeDesigns. This brilliant theme is not only the best one they have released so far, but one that truly does make you wonder how they pulled it off. The visually quality of this one will turn anyone into a WIN fan.
There are a ton of features and elements included here so what better way to begin than with the start menu. That's right, this theme comes with a start menu to give you access to your most used applications. It also happens to be the main attraction. As with windows your entire control panel for this theme is accessible from here. Using the slide out menu you can turn on/off the weather slot, desktop icons, and the large clock and date. This theme even makes room at the bottom for a task bar with user-defined icons (application slots 2-5).
Desktop7 also lets you select your own image to replace the start menu administrator icon by saving a PNG file to your SD Card. The complete instructions are available here. The information that appears below the image is what you entered as your display owner name in the message on lock screen.
- Task Bar icons (Slot 2-5)
- Start menu gives you access to your most used applications: Social: BlackBerry Messenger, Text Messages, Messages; Media: Pictures, Videos, Music; Applications: App menu Slot 6-8
- Control Panel allows you to: turn on/off the weather slot (Slot1), turn on/off the desktop icons (Slot 9-Slot 14), turn on/off large clock and date
- Add your own custom avatar to the start menu and lockscreen by placing a square image (Size 91x91 ideal) in a folder on your sd card
- ALT+Q and ALT+P to hide the new messages "blip"
In addition, drkapprenticeDESIGNS has a few more surprises up their sleeve on this one. Not only does it feature authentic icons and a realistic looking mouse/cursor that floats around the screen to highlight your applications, but, and this is the best part, it comes with an animated lockscreen. I'm not making this up, drkapprenticeDESIGNS has gone so far as to replicate the windows logo screensaver for your BlackBerry device. In order for it to work though, you will have to enable password lock on your BlackBerry. Then all you have to do is sit back and watch it float around the screen.
Regardless of whether or not you're a Windows fan what drkapprenticeDESIGNS has accomplished here is an incredible feat. With the control panel, hidden docks, clock widgets and more this is one theme that has set the bar pretty high especially with their mad coding skills.
Desktop7 is a marvel to look at and operate and has definitely earned a permanent spot on my rotation. It is only available for the BlackBerry 9900/30/81 for $1.99. Be sure to check out the additional images below.
