If there is one thing I adore doing, it's trying to find the latest and greatest theme that is not only imaginative and functional but brings something new to the table as well. For those who prefer replica themes, and ones so realistic you can't take your eyes off them, then prepare to be amazed by Desktop7 by drkapprenticeDesigns. This brilliant theme is not only the best one they have released so far, but one that truly does make you wonder how they pulled it off. The visually quality of this one will turn anyone into a WIN fan.

There are a ton of features and elements included here so what better way to begin than with the start menu. That's right, this theme comes with a start menu to give you access to your most used applications. It also happens to be the main attraction. As with windows your entire control panel for this theme is accessible from here. Using the slide out menu you can turn on/off the weather slot, desktop icons, and the large clock and date. This theme even makes room at the bottom for a task bar with user-defined icons (application slots 2-5).

Desktop7 also lets you select your own image to replace the start menu administrator icon by saving a PNG file to your SD Card. The complete instructions are available here. The information that appears below the image is what you entered as your display owner name in the message on lock screen.

Desktop7 Administrator

Features

  • Task Bar icons (Slot 2-5)
  • Start menu gives you access to your most used applications: Social: BlackBerry Messenger, Text Messages, Messages; Media: Pictures, Videos, Music; Applications: App menu Slot 6-8
  • Control Panel allows you to: turn on/off the weather slot (Slot1), turn on/off the desktop icons (Slot 9-Slot 14), turn on/off large clock and date
  • Add your own custom avatar to the start menu and lockscreen by placing a square image (Size 91x91 ideal) in a folder on your sd card
  • ALT+Q and ALT+P to hide the new messages "blip"

In addition, drkapprenticeDESIGNS has a few more surprises up their sleeve on this one. Not only does it feature authentic icons and a realistic looking mouse/cursor that floats around the screen to highlight your applications, but, and this is the best part, it comes with an animated lockscreen. I'm not making this up, drkapprenticeDESIGNS has gone so far as to replicate the windows logo screensaver for your BlackBerry device. In order for it to work though, you will have to enable password lock on your BlackBerry. Then all you have to do is sit back and watch it float around the screen.

Regardless of whether or not you're a Windows fan what drkapprenticeDESIGNS has accomplished here is an incredible feat. With the control panel, hidden docks, clock widgets and more this is one theme that has set the bar pretty high especially with their mad coding skills.

Desktop7 is a marvel to look at and operate and has definitely earned a permanent spot on my rotation. It is only available for the BlackBerry 9900/30/81 for $1.99. Be sure to check out the additional images below.

Damn, I wish there was a video to show this in action, I actually really like it... But wondering if it slows down the phone or has any other weird side-effects. Also, is getting to the connection management menu as easy as on the normal theme??

ajst222

Where are you finding this theme? I checked his page both on my Bold and online

Hey, if you get it, can you tell me something about it? I want to know if you can get to the manage connections screen from the home screen like you can in the normal theme or if you HAVE to go through control panel. Thanks. I literally JUST bought a new theme a few days ago, so don't want to buy another one unless it's what I would want, and this one definitely looks cooler than the one I bought...

jamesharmeling

Find it and many, many others at mybbota.com. :)

I've been debating whether or not to try this one out. I'm such a simple-theme guy, but you've really made it look more awesome than it already is! Drkapprentice is THE best theme creator out there....hand down.

slagman5

Hey, so did you end up getting it? Can you answer the question I've been wondering? Can you access the manage connections screen from the homescreen like with the basic theme just clicking the top of the screen or are you forced to work through the menus to get to it? Thanks man.

jamesharmeling

I'll buy it now and let you know. Even if I don't wind up keeping it, I like "donating" a couple bucks anyway.

slagman5

Thanks man, I am on their payment screen waiting for your answer, lol. I literally just bought another theme a few days ago, that's the only reason why I'm hesitating a little now...

jamesharmeling

You can go to manage connections on the homescreen. Not by clicking the top of the screen, but it's in the menu on the right.

slagman5

Hey, thanks man. I actually ended up buying it. But am now back to using my previous theme. I didn't like that you cannot get out of the menus like when you click start and control panel, by pressing the back button or hangup button, you have to click the start button again, or the little x... And all of my icons inside my folders disappears when I use this theme... I've emailed the guy about those two issues, if they fix them, I'd happily reactivate the theme...

jordan559

I have had this theme for a little while now. To get to the manage connections screen from the homescreen on my 9930 the theme is setup to just hit the "J" key.

slagman5

But what if I'm using universal search. I actually prefer that over the shortcuts...

Matt J

Really? What a hack job. Honestly, this theme will make you more productive?

slagman5

Actually, the thing that catches my eye is that you can have the normal 5 icons, PLUS the smaller icons in the "taskbar" so you can have more than normal on your homescreen without having to expand the thing to take up more than half your screen or having to scroll between the panels... The weather right on your home screen means you don't need to open your apps folder to check your beweather app icon, and the start button means you can access your settings screens without having to expand your icons to look for the setting icons. So in my opinion, yes it does make you more productive...

jamesharmeling

Sometimes it's not about being productive. Sometimes it's simply about visuals, fun and creativity.

And I suppose you can do a better theme? Be my guest. Drkapprentice is by far the best theme developer around. He puts a lot of work into his themes. I have ran this theme. And every other theme by him. This is a very nice smooth theme. Well worth it to purchase.

How is it possible to own a BB and not have the price of a cup of coffee?

jordandrews90

I don't really like the look of Windows myself, but this is cool, and looks really well done!

pblakeney

9850 support would be great and put BB logo in the circle.
