Do you use social apps on your BlackBerry?

 Twitter for BlackBerry

I'll admit it - I'm fairly addicted to social apps on my BlackBerry. I find myself constantly checking my Twitter feed, scoping out Facebook and catching updates from Google+. I'm still not sure just what the draw is, but I know that I go nuts when I check my social happenings. I know there are plenty of you that fall into the same trap as me -- always checking out the latest on various social networks -- while others can't be bothered (or don't have the time) for social foolishness. So what we want to know is just how many of you do use social networks and how many don't bother. Let us know in the poll above (pick the option that best fits you) then drop a comment below.

Twitter, Facebook and BBM, if LinkedIn got their act together then I would be back on that with OS7 as well ;)

Don't forget about google plus, there's a bb app now. :)

i find myself using my Blackberry exclusively for Twitter, texting, and email.

You cant deny the Bold 9900's grand piano-like keyboard :)

I do much the same thing - rarely use my laptop anymore - twitter, texts, email all on my 9900.

I use bbm, twitter, social feeds. Tumblr is okay but it is very bad ;I had facebook but it was slow and unreliable. The only bad thing about SAs is that developers don't care the app and are behind like e.g twitter for blackberry and twitter for ios

Yes! I find myself checking my Twitter timeline every hour or so, and replying to comments on Facebook posts whenever I could. Guess it's just my way of keeping myself sane in my boring workplace, heh heh.

Adam, you mentioned Google+. Is there an app for BlackBerry 7 device that I'm not aware of? Or you just access it through the browser on your BlackBerry? Thanks.

NO because the facebook app totally suck. You cant completely turn off notifications and thats the worst thing EVER!!!!!

The day that turning off notifications on home screen will work properly then maybe i'll go back to the app.. until then... facebook for mobile browser TOTALLY ROCK!!!!!!

MaxPayne79 Mar 26, 2012 at 3:06 pm

Log out of the app is 1. And in thr settings, turn off notifications and stop all emails is 2. Done.

What about if I only want the chat notifications on? Can I still do that?

  • Reply

MaxPayne79 Mar 28, 2012 at 8:31 pm

if you go to ur phone's sound and alerts profile, there you will find under "other applications - Notifiers" "facebook" and "facebook chat." At least under os 7.1 you do. turn off all notifications for the main facebook ie sounds to silent, vibration off, LED off, but keep the settings on for the facebook chat profile. however you will have to go back and turn on notifications inside the facebook app is you turned them off. That should do it. let me know. :) dm me if u have to.

And what about the notification icon on homescreen? That is what I want to turn off!!!!!!

I'm addicted to social apps. I find that the native integration is amazing but the apps themselves are not great. The Twitter app is "laggy". Facebook is horrible. Google+ let's not even go there. And LinkedIn is now a mobile web shortcut---sux!!!! So glad that we now have a Foodspotting app, I miss tumblr but of course I LOVE BBM and Foursquare (although the performance on the app is not as fun as on my iPhone). Unfortunately, that goes for a lot of these apps :(

Twitter- Facebook- Foursquare and Socialscope to put them all together in one app!

how come there isn't a choice for not wanting that crap on my phone?

  • Reply

Rootbrian Mar 26, 2012 at 8:24 pm

Then hide the servicebook "icons". Done.

I'm always getting annoyed by these polls. I want to participate, but then none of the offered answers fits.
In this case: why can't I just say: "no, I don't want to use social networks?"
Pls also offer the simplest - and often most obvious - answers.

  • Reply

xenrobia Mar 26, 2012 at 3:05 pm

Or, even a partial answer would be nice, like: I find BBM useful, but never bother with the others. This would be an honest answer for me.

Rootbrian Mar 26, 2012 at 8:23 pm

*please

I think that's what you meant to type. No offense, but it makes sense.

  • Reply

Eli_B Mar 26, 2012 at 2:59 pm

I chose yes, when I can..however...I forgot that BBM is considered social media..so...My actual answer is the first choice (Yes, Love them!). I also use my BB for email/SMS.

I use social feeds, and as I was doing so I noticed this poll posted on the CrackBerry RSS feed!

  • Reply

MaxPayne79 Mar 26, 2012 at 3:02 pm

I use em all the time but honestly I find social feeds completely useless. Am I the only one?

  • Reply

berrydroidapple Mar 26, 2012 at 3:12 pm

I've tried to leave the Facebook app on my Blackberry 6 times now, but I just can't deal with all the notifications (yes, I turned them off, but they continued). Twitter has been around for quite some time, but I'm just starting to like it, LOL.

Truthfully, I'm actually tired of most social networking and find I seek out content more than contact.

  • Reply

MaxPayne79 Mar 28, 2012 at 8:33 pm

turn them off in your phone's sound and alerts profile. that may solve ur problem.

Facistbook* or twitter. The app is good enough and retains the original look and feel before all those changes arrived and keep coming. Identica posts to twitter, diaspora posts to facebook. I also sometimes use google plus, but that's all.

Sounds like you need to try one of the RAM boosting apps. That or you manage to install an app that didnt like your BB to much.

I wish the social feeds app on bb7 was available for the playbook. Works awesome for twitter, Facebook and bbm. C'mon guys!

  • Reply

cletis Mar 27, 2012 at 1:27 am

So the poll assumes that if you've heard of social networks, you either use them or wish that you could. Has it never occurred to you, Adam, that some of us may know very well what social networks are, get have no interest in them?

  • Reply

Vorkosigan Mar 27, 2012 at 8:44 am

Bbm - yes all the time for work
Twitter - a tiny bit - again for work
However i guess i'm old fashioned. I don't believe that i am being paid to check my fb so i only check it in the evenings - usually on my playbook
