Disney Mobile Magic App on the Way for Verizon Customers Posted in BlackBerry Apps on 29 Oct 2009 12:50 by Adam Zeis |
I have to say I saw this and definitely think its pretty cool. My mother would have loved to have had this years ago (and I'm sure my father would have hated it). I remember all my trips to Disney World as a kid, running around getting lost and waiting in endless lines for rides and attractions. Disney has just announced their Mobile Magic application that will soon be hitting Verizon's application center, and should make a Disney trip much, much smoother. The Disney app lets you view information on both Disney theme parks. You will be able to view your location in the park using the device GPS, as well as attraction wait times. There will be maps of the park and also character greeting and restaurant information. Overall this is shaping up to be one very cool and unique application. No word of the official launch date or pricing, but it will pop up in the Verizon application center in the near future. Thanks to Doug for sending this in!

I wish I had this app when I had the family down there 4 months ago. That would have been very handy.
I know! We were at Disneyland a month ago, and I so would have loved to have this! My sister had her iPhone app, and I was quite jealous that she didn't need the physical paper schedule...
Oh well, I will use this next time in two years at Disney World...
Gosh, we have lots of those on our AppStore. 100,000++ and growing.
Can your BlackBerry allow you to deposit money by just using your phone's camera?...there's an app for that.
Seattle, I agree with you. It would have been nice to have when I was at D-Land this last weekend... It would have been very nice to check out wait times on the way to the rides, and when certain characters would be out and about.
is this for both the orlando and cali parks? or different apps for each one? hmmm
The funny thing about displaying "wait times" is that it created a mind-scramble of a situation where people continually move around to different line ups. The app says Ride B is 10mins, so everyone in Ride A runs over, effectively immediately boosting the wait time to 45mins, and Ride A itself goes from 45 to 10mins of waiting.
How often does the app update?
I can see how this would be incredibly useful.
why do you have to pay? if someone is using the app that means they've already paid or is considering paying disney's fees to enter the park
not true. quite often i wonder how long the line for Splash mountain is over 3,000 miles away
Mickey and friends is still popular..
News
I guess I will need to reinstall the Verizon App Center again.
this will be very useful since i have annual pass to park
We're going 12/24-12/28. My wife and I have been several times and a few with our daughter. Going with my in-laws. So this is a real low-expectations trip from the perspective of how much we can see (likely to be very crowded) and just enjoying time with my wife's parents.
That being said, I hope this gets released prior to our vacation as I love my Crackberry and I love me some Disney. Putting the two together......as priceless as......ummm......Greased Touchscreen. :)
At $10 or less, I buy it in a heartbeat. $15-$20, maybe. $20+, likely not. And absolutely not for anything on a monthly basis, unless it is something like $5 or less per month for any month you use it......We'll see.
disney world is pleasantly unpacked around christmas time, and it really is a GREAT time to go!
Hope you and your family have a blast
I REALLY hope its not a monthly thing.. i doubt they would do that.. who is at Disney on a monthly basis anyway? other than Annual Pass holders. And i agree with jlb... except anything over 15 is probably a no go for me...
My quick googling is saying that it will be available "in November" and it may be $9.95 for a 6-month period. While I would prefer a one-time fee of that price or a little more, when you are spending thousands to go, what's another $10 each time you go (or less).
I will grab it very quickly at this price/structure I guess.
What I want to know, is the GPS going to be required only for the directions aspect or will the app require the GPS to be on to provide the "only while in a park" requirement?
If the latter, I wonder how long my Blackberry Tour's battery will last with the GPS on all day long..........
Perhaps it is time to get a second battery........
Adult here no children, but not ashamed to say I LOVE DISNEY! Great app! Nice review!
um did they mention a berry app anywhere?
Oh, good point. Excitement abated until further info......
Of course I cannot see why Verizon would do this just for GPS/internet enabled "phones" and not for Smart phone device like BB and Droid.
I think what is real funny is that in reading other blogs and posts about this on other forums, iPhone users are complaining about how this (at least the full app) is limited to Verizon. Wha wha wha, whine all you want iPhone folks. For once Verizon has something you don't.
Oh and on the same subject, some of the same posters were saying things like "I hate that pricing.....why would I want that when I can get all kinds of Disney apps like wait times for $.99 each."
Of course those apps, and any other wait time app in existence, are only based on input by users. If there are not a lot of users putting info in, the info will be unreliable at best.
This Verizon/Disney system, being based directly on the Disney system info, is the most accurate you can get.
+1 to the comment above. This has really set the iPhone drones into a frenzy on the Disney blog... can't wait to try this if it is available by Thanksgiving(my next Disney trip).
Like this quote/comment:
"wow. what is disney thinking an iphone app not for the iphone. verizon must have made some great deal. how many apps do people not using iphones actually use anyways. might want to take a look at this one mr iger. i love the disney parks and go at least once a year but don’t think i would switch from my iphone just for this one app that is best used on those occasions when in the parks."
What a tool. Just because I run a BB does not mean I don't run apps. And sure, iTunes has waaaaaaaaaay more apps tan BB App world or other locations. But how many of those apps are worthwhile. Sure, a certain % of the apps on BB AW are junky at best, but my point is that this person thinks the world revolves around Apple and the iPhone. It certainly does not. And it is not about getting people to switch from the iPhone to VZW. If anything, its more about making money on a good deal, and perhaps, keeping people on VZW rather than having them bolt to Apple/ATT/iPhone.
I just have to LOL at comments like the one this kid made.
OMG, so cool! This will come in handy for Gay Days at Disneyland and Disney World!!
to use this on my honeymoon (hopefully it's out before March)!!! i try to go to Disney 2x a year, app will be very useful! sounds like a dream for Disney fans!! love how it will tell you wait times. some rides take forever even with the fastpass option! thanks Verizon & Disney =)
I have a season pass!! ya BITCHES!
I have a season pass!! ya BITCHES!
Come on Crackberry, do a contest for round trip tickets to disney land
This looks great. I love Disney and go to Disney World 2 - 3 times a year.
so, does that mean buying this turns on the verizon gps? verizon has that gps locked so it's not usable unless you pay for it. this says you can use the gps to find your location. hmmm...
This is bloody freaking awesome. I live 6.5 hour drive from Disney World so we go every year. Some years twice. AWESOME app!!!
Way cool Themes. I really like the way they flow... reminds me of powerball, which I haven't won. Yet. I may if I put the Blue iris on my phone. Shoot, I'd even put the pink one on, and I'm not even a pink kinda guy!
Can't any BB user download it just like anyone can download the Sprint BB apps?
We've been waiting for this all year! Where was this for our first trip to Disney World this summer? Running around to check wait times sucks, so this rocks. For the iPhone fanboys, AT&T's coverage blows goats, so what good would this app do if your phone can't see the network?
The wife and I have annual passes and visit Disneyland once every 6-8 weeks. I propsed there, we honeymooned there, and yes we live in Vegas ;) But, since both of us were born and raised here, our idea of a vacation is getting as far away from The Strip as possible.
Generally, we have our visits to "the park" down to a science. We know how to work the Fastpass system, when to avoid certain rides, how to get into restaurants without waiting, etc... That said, this app would allow us to be that much more devious, er, efficient. Ok, gotta pack - can't miss the Jack Skelington fireworks show or the new haunted Space Mountain!
That smack was for being such a creep towards the FEARLESS lil Taylor Swift...hahahahahahahahaha
woohooo. this is very good.
i have a premium pass and go about 3-4 times a week, considering school and work.
i already know all the places and sites/rides to go, but this is just exciting to hve such a creative and useful app :D
lucky me, verizon and blackberry, woohoo.
This is an amazing app... wonder why it took them so long to create!
How did you get it? Where did you download from? Thanks.
Soft launch was to be yesterday via texting Magic to 2777. But that is not working. I noted a site/blog/post in the mobile magic thread in the Verizon forum which stated that someone either in Disney or VZW goofed and did not set-up the download system with what phones were compatible and thus no one can download right now. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.
According to the official Disney Parks press release (can't post links yet), this is only available for certain phone at this time. No Blackberry devices are listed. Looks like they'll be "tweaking" the app until January, so perhaps this gross oversight will be corrected soon.
Bah!
I bought a new BB Tour from Verizon last week and I am in awe of all of the apps. I got an email from allears.net about this app and I am jumping for joy as my wife and I along with our daughter is headed down to WDW October 2010, so I sure hope that VZ comes through for us Crackberrys!
