Yesterday, we learned of RIM's offer to Android developers of a free BlackBerry PlayBook to anyone who submits an appby Feb. 13th but given the initial response to the app from other developers RIM has opened the offer up to everyone, no matter what type of app they wish to submit:
Wow BlackBerry Developer Community! You certainly weren’t shy about wanting in on the PlayBook offer for apps submitted to BlackBerry App World between now and February 13. And you know what? We are in the year of “Being Bold” and such an outpouring of interest from you should be rewarded! We’re opening this offer to any app – WebWorks, Native, AIR, and Android. Same deadline of February 13 applies. There are some terms and conditions, but they’re there to protect you and your content. We look forward to your submissions!
That sums it up, get your app in there and claim your free BlackBerry PlayBook. Just remember, you're going to have to follow the guidelines for submission and you can hit the source link for those full details.

So even if you're a current developer and submit a new app you'll qualify? I've been working on a new app for a while and was just about to submit...so now I'll be able to get a free playbook?
Bla1ze Feb 3, 2012 at 7:22 pm
Yup, provided it's a PB app.

That was my question too. I've submitted before (including one to get a free PlayBook back at initial launch) so didn't think they'd give me a free one again. But I'll definitely try to get something together to see if I can land another one.

This should fix out dearth of fart apps. Joking, really interested to see what arrives with the patch. Really hoping zinio is there on release.

There's something in the rules saying that if it does nothing but play sounds it's not eligible. I'm hoping we get some substantial stuff, but 8 days to write an app is not much, assuming we haven't already started and can't suddenly drop everything to do it, but I'm going to try to write something more or less from scratch.
This would be a good opportunity to write something in HTML5 that works on both the PlayBook and the latest BB6 and BB7 phones.

crap! what about BBOS devs?
birdman_36 Feb 3, 2012 at 7:11 pm
Hopefully there's some brand-name apps and not an abundance of CRAPPS!

Wait, does this apply to all developers? Even the ones who got theirs last time?
ShimmyShine Feb 3, 2012 at 8:25 pm
That's my question as well. Because I did get one last time, if I have another opportunity, I'm all for it!

On Twitter Alec Saunders said those who previously got a free PB are still eligible and can get a second one. https://twitter.com/#!/asaunders/status/165601769844510720

Ah, very nice. Thank you for letting us know!

Sweet, I could use another one. The one I have now (from the first promotion) has a defective screen and camera.
I wish I had waited to release my alarm clock app now. Oh, well, can't predict the future.
Must go code now!

Wow! RIM is serious about getting the word out on the awesomeness of the Playbook. Nice going RIMM. I'm cheering for you.

Brilliant. I have a Blackberry app almost completely ported to the Playbook. The timing couldn't be better!

We have been waiting to hear an official date for OS 2.0 a really long time from BlackBerry or a RIM employee. Ever since the first whispers of a date were published, it's all been speculation. Today though we got some official RIM confirmation. At the Developing Native Games with the BlackBerry NDK 2.0 Webcast today, Angel Aldana, RIM Manager (Latin America Alliances), confirmed the official date of PlayBook's OS 2.0 launch to be... Tuesday, February 21st! Barring any setbacks, we will have a shiny new OS on our PlayBooks in about 5 days! This is awesome.
