BlackBerry Developer Conference This Week!

As soon as this post is published, I'm shutting down the computers, packing my bags, and heading to the airport to jump on a plane for California. Tomorrow begins the first-ever BlackBerry Developer Conference and I am pumped! Monday and Tuesday will be busy as all heck for me, but there should hopefully be a few good on-location stories coming your way. A few of the things I'm looking forward to:

  • Monday night is the BBCool 15 event we told you about earlier, where developers will be able to pitch their new app ideas to the judges. Rick Segal from the BlackBerry Partners Fund has now hopped onboard with prizes, and in addition to having term sheets ready to go for any knock-out ideas, he's bringing along two prizes in the form of BlackBerry Storms! CLICK HERE for full details.
  • Tuesday morning rings in the General Session keynote, which will feature RIM's co-CEO Mike Lazaridis among other awesome speakers. CLICK HERE for the full details. I don't expect to hear any BIG product announcements (this is a conference geared toward Developers) but will be in attendance to report back all the details (any bets on who won the Dev Challenge?!). If the conference hall's WiFi is good and I get a big sense of excitement, you may see a live blog up on the homepage (starts at 8:15am PST). Otherwise, I'll live twit the event at twitter.com/crackberry. Will let ya know on game day so be sure to check in!
  • Tuesday afternoon I'm participating in a panel session entitled What Makes a Great Mobile Application? This should be a lot of fun and I'll bring you the highlights of that event later.
  • Last but not least, the word is there will be BLACKBERRY STORMS ON HAND TO PLAY WITH!!! Back at WES 2008 RIM did have the BlackBerry Bold on display, but no photos or video were allowed. My fingers (and toes) are crossed that we'll be allowed to snap photos and record some video. We'll see what happens I guess... but I'll do my best to bring you back all that I can on the BlackBerry Storm.

If you're in attendance, be sure to track me down and say hi! I'd love to meet you. Blog to y'all soon from Sunny California!!!!!

Can we expect any new information on the Niagara/Bold variant for Verizon during the Dev Conference?

Please let us know if you hear anything about when Verizon will be releasing the Storm. I have been holding onto my Treo 650 for what seems like forever so that I can get the new Blackberry. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it had dropped when I got out of my car today...at least not until I pulled away from the parking spot and felt a bump and saw my crumpled Treo in my rear view mirror. I don't know if I can hold out!

Is it possible that the Curve 8900 will get announced at the DevCon? I would think that would be a good way to get it widely known.(Not that it isn't already.)

Why can I envision a scene similar to Tom Cruse and Mission impossible if they tell Kevin "No Pics or Video". We'd get the CB helmet cam as Agent Michaluk penetrates the the headquarters of the Evil Big Red. Operation "DevCon" would be underway and we would not be denied and receive a full Operations debriefing from a smokey bar in Canada.

Kevin enjoy the journey and may the media Gods be in favor of the 300 (HA another tangent - as I start to write 300,000 I stop at 3oo, you know, the movie) the 300,000 Crackberrians who would follow our leader into the (ya know I hafta) STORM!!
