Don Melton, former Engineering Director of Internet Technologies at Apple, talks to Guy and Rene about assembler on the Apple II, open-sourcing Mozilla, building Nautilus, creating WebKit -- the HTML rendering engine behind BlackBerry 10's browser -- teaching bears to dance, and cleaning cusses from code bases.

This is must-listen folks. Don tells amazing stories about how they had to remove the cuss-words from Netscape before they could make the open-source Mozilla. Also about building the Nautilus file system for Linux, and why they chose KHTML/KJS/Konquerer as the bases for WebKit -- which now powers almost all major browsing platforms.

If you use the Torch or BlackBerry 10 Browser, you're using WebKit!

We were thrilled he agreed to the interview, and it's one of the best shows we've ever done.

Let me know what you guys thing!

Interesting stuff. History of technology can be hard to come by.

Id like to hear guys like Don, guys who were involved with software developing from the front lines. Talk about QNX. I've read a few articles I've come across talking about its potential and the struggles its gone through being picked up by various companies. Apparently QNX goes way back so they should all be opinionated about it.

Is there a trend out there with the top tier talent making a push to Blackberry to write QNX. Whos blackberry hiring etc.

I'll give it a listen. Does it have an apple slant like iTerate? I love that podcast but would love to see more non apple devs on the show.

We're trying really hard to get non-iOS designers on Iterate but they're proving really difficult. Next episode is Shifty Jelly talking about Pocket Casts for Android. We'd love to have some hard core BB10 designers on!

Hi, I'm in Switzerland and it's not possible to download any music or movie in BlackBerry world... WHY?? BlackBerry travel is also not available in Switzerland... (only 3 countries...) help me please... why BlackBerry always forgot swiss people? Can someone help me and give me a response please? It's impossible to contact a support from BlackBerry...

Hi Rene:
Thanks for the posts and the podcast. It is a little long and I haven't had the time to get to the Webkit part yet, but I'm sure it'll be interesting once I find the time. Thanks again.

Come to the Dark Side, Rene, we have cookies. ;)
