Application that will be running all the time waiting to fetch every hour which will take more ram (while it is running) and battery for fetch OR this is programmed to work natively so no need for anything running but a small theme which doesn't even make you lose your OS6 function...

But is it that the image goes through the light cycles of the sun/moon throughout the day/night? I like the concept if that is the case.

***EDIT*** Exactly as I thought. Plus sorry for the newb mistake, my mind is on the weekend and spending it with the kids! I just watched the youtube video and it explains it perfectly.

That is what I saw in the video. I went ahead and tried it and ended up buying it. Only complaint I have is when in landscape mode, the image never changes... ;)
