So will this mean that they will have full data capabilities? I tried to give a friend of mine on Cricket a Pearl awhile back and they said they could activate the phone on their network but it wouldn't have some features (key being BIS so no BBM or things like that.)

And would this mean that ANY Blackberry could be flashed to Cricket at work on that plan?

@a.leah86 Yes and yes. The BB network will allow email and BBM to run on Cricket's network. The only way to know for sure is to try it, though. Before only text and calls would work

By any BB, its only CDMA blackberries. Only Sprint and Verizon BBs. Maybe Alltel

the blackberry hardware has become so outdated that one of the main selling features for a new phone on a network is SMS messaging.

3G enabled? Is this feature only for CDMA carriers? I upgraded to the 9700 because it has 3G and the 8520 didn't...

CDMA has been all 3G for a long while now.

Doesn't look that different...

Its not different at all, only difference is that the official carrier is Cricket, as opposed to Verizon/Sprint.

Huh, I missed this how? :| Its quite tempting to ditch my 9700 for the 8530, its just that $60 a month for unlimited...can't beat that. T-Mobile is sucking me dry ¬¬
