Coming soon for cricket fans - CricHQ to launch their BBM Channel

By James Richardson on 27 Mar 2014 07:19 am EDT

I'll be honest and say that not being a cricket fan I've never heard of, but it must be a pretty big deal as BlackBerry have today sent our the following press release.

Even though my knowledge of them is limited, what is wonderful is that yet another big name brand is supporting BBM Channels - which not only BlackBerry 10 users have access too, but also iOS and Android

It makes perfect sense for them to adopt 'Channels' as after all - it's free marketing for them. If I knew a cricket joke I could crack one now, but I don't!

Press Release

New Zealand-based cricket technology company CricHQ ( today announced that the company’s content will be accessible on a new BBM™ Channel on the popular mobile messaging service.CricHQ chief executive Simon Baker said the new BBM Channels feature has provided the tech company with another important platform to showcase its wares. “It’s exciting to think about CricHQ being integrated with BBM – with millions of people around the world using the service, the potential is huge for us. We’re looking forward to getting our technology in front of BlackBerry cricket lovers.”

Baker said there were also exciting opportunities in the Indian market as CricHQ’s live scoring, competition management and CRM system for cricket is going to be made available to BlackBerry’s customer base.

“India loves cricket, and Indians love their BlackBerry smartphones so there’s some fertile middle ground for CricHQ in the sub-continent,” said Baker. “We also want to get the corporate market in India excited about what we have to offer – corporate cricket is massive in that part of the world and CricHQ could revolutionise almost every aspect of it.”

BBM Channels, a feature launched late last year, will help CricHQ build a community with users on BBM.

“We are thrilled to work with CricHQ and welcome the launch of their new BBM Channel. BBM Channels is a great new way for well-loved organizations, such as CricHQ, to connect with fans and build out their community. We expect cricket fans will be highly engaged on the channel, discussing and sharing their thoughts with others in the community,” said Krishnadeep Baruah, Senior Marketing Director for BBM in Asia Pacific at BlackBerry.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oi, oi, oi!

We'll win, no matter what the rest does...
Hope we'll see good sportsmanship and less insults...

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

Sammy tore y'all apart today! Windies fan here. And this is the first I've ever heard of so don't feel too bad James.

being a cricket fan, I would love to see below names on the bbm channels.
WC 2015 (to be held in Aus/NZ)

Doesn't matter, the population ...

Australia is going to beat them!
(not a huge fan, but always like to see'em win!)

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

Yessssssssss (Caribbean) cricket is technically the number 2 sport world wide (not USA) is this is going be great

I'm going to subscribe to it just to try and wrap my mind around such an odd game.

A little love and nice wording go a long way. Posting insults doesn't really help any situation...

(may God give you the strength to let go of whatever hurt you, and start again...)

"No Q10?" -> "Buy from Chen... "

Lol bhinder seems to be having a little fit.

As a Pakistani cricket supporter, glad to see this...will subscribe now.

Wicked. Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world after football (more popular than Basketball, American Football, Hockey...) so this appeals to a huge demographic. Nice pick up for BBM channels

As a cricket lover I added one channel before this one and couldn't see it working so I deleted. Scores are usually way behind. Articles were too short so the whole point wasn't coming across very well. I'm at a lost at what can be done better in this format.

Posted via CB10

Nice, I haven't been able to follow cricket since moving to the US. Will definitely subscribe to this.

Visit my channel @ C0029395D

- Good News .. Cricket is quite famous in some European, Asian and a few African countries also Australia and New Zealand, so it's a good to have them on Board supporting the platform.

I am a cricket fan as are most persons who live in the Caribbean. I will definitely be following this channel.

Posted via CB10

James! You're British. You're required to love cricket. Especially after the near-miracle the Poms pulled off today. Not even a casual Ashes follower?

Patiently waiting for the official NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB to join Channels and me being a #sneakerhead in all KicksonFire, SoleCollection, Nike, Jordan, Adidas, Reebok, ect.

That's great cricket is huge in the caribbean...we have one team from the islands called the West Indies cricket team so this will be a must for caribbean people....
