The numbers are in! Yesterday we put up a poll asking everyone which new BlackBerry device they prefer. The BlackBerry Passport or the BlackBerry Classic? Over 7,000 people voted on the poll and the results are a bit, perhaps, surprising.

As it stands, 50.29 percent opted for the BlackBerry Passport with 3,719 votes, while 32.89 percent opted for the BlackBerry Classic with 2,432 votes. The remaining amount went with the 'I love both!' option and made up 16.82 percent with 1,244 votes.

Don't forget, we're giving away either a BlackBerry Passport or BlackBerry Classic so be sure to enter, you could end up winning your choice of device!

I second that. The bigger screen is awesome, and that keyboard is going to be so bad ass. Not to mention it's really unique. Can't wait for the Passport.

I think they should have just went with the passport. Did we really need the Q10 with the "utility belt"? Seems like a waste of money... in my opinion.

BlackBerry received a lot of feedback from customers who wanted the tool belt back. At least BlackBerry is listening to what its customers want. It's admittedly not a device for everyone, but for an older user or some of the holdouts, it should help to increase adoption of BlackBerry 10.

Posted via CB10

OK well then they should have just made the classic to begin with and skipped the Q10. Forgive me if I'm wrong but aren't they the same thing just with the addition of the utility buttons?

Exactly that's what they should have done. They didn't realize that many users from the 9900 phones would find the new BB10 OS to hard to use without the tool belt(trackpad and etc). And that's why not so many upgraded to the Q10 like they thought they would. I know a few friends who said some ppl they know upgraded and couldn't handle the new BlackBerry 10 OS so they downgraded back to their 9900 phones. Too bad they didn't find this out about asking and listening when they were going to launch the Q10 but at least they are now. Happy the tool belt is back for those classic users as well as the the screen is bigger now.

Is there any other real smart phone on the market (apart from flip-phones, little Nokias and the like) that still has a call answer button like a "real" traditional phone?

I don't think so, but there might be a ton of old-school users and diehards stuck on flip-phones that would like the conveniences of a smartphone, but wanna keep their traditional use of a phone that has buttons ?

If marketed and advertised properly, this could be some huge untapped market potential right here.

Very true, however the Q10 and os 10 for that matter did not provide functions they were used to on os7. Home screen notifications, sophisticated email functions, proper text editing, ringtone profile, night time scheduler, proper sinc with outlook - the list goes on. They partially fix this list but they still have a long way to go.

Exactly..........I've been waiting 3 years to move on from my Bold 9900. Q 10 Didn't work for me. Can't wait for the classic.

Q10 to me is like trying to run a PC without a mouse.

That is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Get over your ignorance. The Q10 is awesome. I use it for hours everyday. It's my main and only device at the moment, the swipe features are np at all and actually way faster. Seems like most people prefer the Passport to so they obviously don't care about the tool belt either.

Antoniius

How dare you be soi judgemental. Its neither dumb nor ignorant....just a matter of choice and preference of UI. I didn't see you ripping in to Z series users.

I voted Classic. I don't care for the utility belt at all, but I really don't think I'd jive with the space bar placement on the passport. If the spacebar was on a row below, I'd be 100% all for it.

Because it doesn't appeal to you, that means nobody should get it! Yah! Not egocentric at all!!

Yes they needed it. And they need to kill the Q10 and Q5. IMHO. The people spoke and they were happy with the Q10 but wanted tool belt back. I wouldn't buy either as the screen is just too small for me but if I had to choose..yeah I'm taking the tool belt. That being said..keep the Z10 series alive with a Z10s or some other Z10 name. Still a great phone just needs battery life.

There's a couple people I know who held off on bb10 because of the lack of the belt. I told them about that and they said they're getting the classic rather then another 9900

Swordsmanship & Western Martial Arts Channel C000C9AF6

If that's what it takes to bring back the millions of users who left then so be it...I say give it a RED HOT GO!!! Some users like other features than others. The toolbelt was a hit for million of users and they want it back. Let's wait and see the response from the consumers...

Some of us want a phone that actually looks visually appealing and not a phone that looks like a brick with fricken 90 degree sharp edges

All they need to do is market this product correctly and we will have ourselves a winner. The Passport is a totally different form factor to the norm. No more of... What is that? What kinda device is that? It's a BB Baby! Thank you for posting!

I really couldn't give a rat's ass. If I cared about being in the majority I would be using an Android...

Third of all I wasn't talking to you ;-))) I'm just teasing him/her, with the "first", they were all flustered yesterday in another post when I used the word first in an editorial posting" first "

Posted via CB10

I don't get it. Why have a physical keyboard without the full physical keyboard? I definitely like the look of the Passport, but... I'll have to test drive it.

Posted via CB10

Z30 still an awesome device for a while, BlackBerry knows.

The drama was on the keyboard side, and now that they've fixed that, they can work on an upgrade for the Z30 to give the Galaxies, iPhones and Ones a run for their money, yeah, blown them out of the water.

Pasted via CB chen

I voted for the classic, however, the passport is a whole different beast and I might have to give it a try. I'll have to give both a try first and then decide. Can't wait!!!

Via my Z10 #Ichooseblackberry10

The Passport is something new and innovative. The Classic is just a Q10 with a tool belt and slightly longer screen

Posted via CB10

I'd be happier with an all touch phone.
Might get a passport but certainly will not spend loads on one. As they say once bitten , twice I'd rather lose money down the pub

Posted via CB10

You want the new passport, but won't spend "loads" on it. You people are so full of it. You want Blackberry to be able to compete in specs and form with the top handsets on on the market, yet you don't expect to pay top price.

Blackberry always.....

You got it right, when will they learn nothing is "free", I would much rather pay to have my privacy respected than to lose it for "free".

Posted via CB10

I'm sure there are lots of 'us people' who spent a shit load on a PlayBook and Z10 only to see them be heavily discounted within 12 months. I do want blackberry to succeed, but I think I will wait for the price drop....

Posted via CB10

I will definitely buy both when they come to Canada, I know the passport will be a cool device, but in all honesty I think I'll be on a classic as my daily driver
.. until a powerhouse full touch device makes its way into my sights

Via My z10 and CB10

Might come handy against an attacker, I'm just sayin'...

(aim for a soft spot..., but I'm anti-violence )

Pasted via CB chen

Does the Passport have HMDI connection? And for that matter the Classic?

This is a key feature for alot of business users. Especially for presentations.

If this feature is missing, I will be going for the Z30.

I'm wondering if they will both be supported in the states. Sprint, maybe, will support the classic.

Posted via my sexy Note 3. Big hands ;-)

I hope there are charging ports on the bottom of the Passport. It looks like the Classic has two speaker grills.

I like them both! Forgive me for asking a stupid question that I feel I should know the answer to but have no clue! What is a tool belt everyone is referring to?

Posted via CB10

The inclusion of the old school buttons atop the keyboard that we were used to with the old generation of BlackBerry.. call button BlackBerry menu track pad back and end

Via My z10 and CB10

The hard keys on the BBOS that's located at the bottom of the screen, one answer calls the other hangs up, the track pad is in the middle and utility key for the device is located there, hence "belt " it'd a step backward for me but necessary for any users transitioning from BBOS to BlackBerry 10.

Posted via CB10

I wouldn't want the buttons just for their main functions. I want to be able to be able to program into them multi-function procedures. I love hotkeys. I still miss the basic keyboard shortcuts for BBM, Calendar, Compose Email. I did a lot of things blindly (without having to even look at the phone). You would have thought my device and I were two halves of a cyborg. ☺ I wasn't the only one from back in those days that had their devices well trained because of all of the programmable buttons.

Well counting my days as a BlackBerry user I have been a fan of it but I really needed a replacement for my Z10. If there isn't one on sight soon. I'm not going for 5 inches(Z30 or other phablet) I will have to evaluate my options

Posted With My ZL1 OS:Unknown Via CB10

I think both are excited about the passport because of his mysteries surrounding its keyboard and usage.. the classic is pretty straight forward

Posted via CB10 from my Z10STL100-1/10.3.0.442

That says a lot about the Passport haters.

Myself, I feel both are best suited to replace my Z30 and 9900 as work phones.

Posted via CB10

If you know anything about statistics, then that's a bad answer. Those percentages just represent people that are interested in the two devices, not the overall BlackBerry community, or the overall phone community.

The title should be "50% of people who like the Classic and Passport like the Passport".

Hence it's skewed.

Exactly. What if there was an option for "Neither. Waiting on the next full touch". Then we would have seen the level of interest overall from this community.

Sure, interest may still be high in these new devices, but it's not a complete picture. Those of us not the least bit interested don't get counted.

Posted via CB10

I bet the results would have been 75% waiting for next device, with dismal interest in more keyboard devices. Let's face it, these are for corporate peeps, who for the most part, aren't on this forum.

I think the Passport has more people interested than just a few corporate peeps. Even some all-touch fans here are giving it a thought.

Pasted via CB chen

We (CrackBerry Nation) probably aren't the typical buyer of a Classic. I best mostt of 'us' have already transitioned to BB10 and don't need a device that makes the transition easier.

I think because it's different than anything out there or before. I can see actually being able to accomplish some necessary work functions on that thing. ;)

I will be stocking up on BB 10 Classic. Perfect balance of software & hardware that made BlackBerry famous for efficiency, productivity.

Theirs reason why the Passport has physical keyboard. It is just insane it did not come with trackpad.

I think the Passport will be appealing to former BlackBerry users coming back from IOS. Plus it's good screen size.

Looper Back Make Corleone Offer for TrackPad on BB10

I suspect the crackberry membership (or at least those who have time/interest in voting) doesn't reflect the BB target market. I'll bet the classic outsells the passport at least 2:1

I said I wanted the classic in the contest... still do, but now that the passport has been seen... looks slick. I enjoy slick. Hmmm.

Posted via CB10

My first thought was that I love Classic, but more I think about it, I realize that I dont need the extra buttons. I have Q10 and it's just perfect for me! Speaking of Passport, I must say I dont like it at all..it is just so weird.

Posted via CB10 by Met

It's cos the Classic's just a repackaged Q10. That's why I believe the Passport is a more exciting proposition for us consumers, anyway. Plus it's different!

Posted via CB10

Honestly I think is blackberry want to get people to convert the classic should be able to also run BBOS. Frankly it's kind of annoying to see so many apps that available for BBOS but never get ported to BB10. even though both android and BBOS are essentially javaVM based, between the two I would feel better about using the BBOS version.

My vote was to the passport I just think it's next level keyboard device. #ichooseblackberry10 #blackberryZ30

Posted via CB10

It would be awesome if I can show off that beautiful BlackBerry Passport. It is truly a winner!!!

Posted via CB10

Well of only have of us wanted and we are BlackBerry fans........what would no fans then?

Posted via CB10

Don't want to get all negative but it is right about the poll. It's a bit like the supermarket adverts on TV where they select certain items and tell you they were all cheaper than their rivals.
More than 50% picked passport out of a 2 horse race, really?
Roughly equates to the sum of nothing. There's a hell of a lot of people not upgrading to another BlackBerry, people waiting for full touch and people sticking with what they've got. Obviously that doesn't make an headline though.

The community hasn't spoken really, they were just asked a question with two possible answers. An even better poll would have been...Now you have seen BlackBerry new line up of devices, their latest earnings report and the decision to jump in bed with Amazon as well as blend, will you as a consumer be sticking with BlackBerry as your smartphone of choice. yes/no/i need more time to evaluate.

That's a proper poll that the community can speak on with some meaning.

Posted via CB10

As a matter of fact I'll choose the "Passport" it has a big touchscreen which is awesome. I just love it #NiceWorkBlackberry... I want the BlackBerry Passport.

Posted via CB10

I'm getting the Classic as soon as it's available...Just hope that AT&T carries it...or that I can buy it unlocked direct from BlackBerry!

The BlackBerry Classic is a last gasp to convince BlackBerry OS 7 users to transition to BlackBerry OS 10.

The BlackBerry Passport is probably the future of BlackBerry smartphones as the company attempts to merge physical keyboard and all-touch smartphones.

Posted via CB10 on BlackBerry Q5

Love my Z10...but thinking of upgrading soonish. Just enjoying the screen space....and am now used to the keypad!

Posted via CB10

IDK, a "tool belt" is almost useless with BB10. If the Q10 had one... I wouldn't like it. Not even a little bit. Hopefully all of this feedback leads to some decent numbers for the classic- cuz I couldn't fathom why we'd wanna waste Flux capacitor juice on something the future no longer needs. A tool belt? Where we're going you won't need tool belts- just crank a Q10 to 50000 jiggawatts! Anyways I voted Passport :)

Posted via CB10 on my Q10

Excuse me, but over 50% in a poll is not nearly good enough for the adoption of two new devices, which I see largely as interchangeable and irrelevant, especially when it comes to a company that is supposed to move towards the future...

Mind you, this over 50% is here on Crackberry, from people who care about BlackBerry and are passionate and loyal customers. While this is an important group, the ones that truly matter are the shoppers/customers who exist outside our merry bubble. The moment of truth will come when these devices hit the market and people actually get the opportunity to purchase them.

Then and only then will we see if this was a good idea...

Cartman says: Screw you guys I'm going home!

I really want the passport, but I'm thinking about buying the classic just because I don't want it to fail. I'll take the bigger screen and the track pad. I'll take one for the team. From my Q10.

Posted via CB10

I am currently rocking my Z30 but I'm alone among my friends and colleagues still using a BlackBerry. After all living in the Bay Area is like living in Apple world. I would love to win the BlackBerry Classic to show my friends that you can have an awesome physical keyboard as well as a great OS in BlackBerry 10.

Posted via CB10

I have owned every BB10 phone (except the Q5 and Z3) and I would love the Passport. If I don't win one my wife will make me stick with my Z30 for awhile. She thinks I've spent to much on cell phones over the last year and a half.

Posted via CB10

It's encouraging to see the positive response they are getting from the Passport. It is after all, a radical new design the competition isn't even touching.

It's also beginning to grow on me...I was put off initially by its looks but this could turn out to be the best idea BlackBerry has had in years.

Sent from my BlackBerry Z30

It's hard to decide without actually feeling the two devices in my own hands. If there are no other device coming out soon, i will have to settle for the passport. I passed on the Q10 because of the screen size, i am ready to get back in the blackberry family.

It's just a hard choice the Classic has the best of the past & the best of the present & the Passport represents something new & cool

Posted via CB10

I'm really looking forward to a passport. The keyboard is gonna be sick I can imagine it now! I was really hoping that the keys would light up the different symbols. Basically make the experience exactly what it would be like if a Z10/30 always had the keyboard active.(its not out yet so I'm still hoping!) The classic however is just all of the things that have ever been good about a BlackBerry put into one device. Not so hot on removing hdmi but maybe I'm behind on the times. It's like a Z30 and a Bold had sex. Add in whatever 10.3 brings and these are gonna be some killer devices with really none of the issues that plagued prettymuch every BB10 device thus far.

Q10, Q5, Z30... Damn I love leaks too much!

I love the Classic look, but also love what the Z30 has for specs/speakers/batts/antenna. The PPort isnt even on my horizon at all.

Via what's really, a BOLD X....on X.II.I

I'm in. Passport for me. Classic for awesome wife and my 13 year old daughter will inherit the z30. I'm trying BB. I preach to the unreachable. I sell riesling to the masses...this is the state of BlackBerry.

Posted via CB10

Certainly won't be able to afford both, only one or the other. Plus it would be great for those wide screen applications from the google play front-end application Snap or the amazon application store. At least they would run properly and not be cropped much. But I value the classic, which I hope is 1080x1080. :P

If I could just bend that Passport screen 45°, then... the world will go rabid !

Deserves the best design award of this year.

I would want the passport as it has got the best of both worlds: the sreen real estate and the awesome keyboard.

Posted via CB10

I'm more intrigued by the Passport but, in fact, my next BlackBerry will likely be a z30 or similar thing. I don't need a physical keyboard. I love my z10!

Posted via CB10

That BlackBerry Passport looks like the bomb. It would awesome to win this considering I have T mobile an they no longer Sell BB devices..

CexiiVirgo

Not this guy. I have been waiting forever for the Classic (since the Q10 release) because I wanted a Bold 9900 with large display and OS10. That was it. This will be that future Bold I live for. I can finally come back to BlackBerry! I want my send and end key, my precision track pad, my go to BB menu button, my bottom row of physical keys for making capital letters and symbols. Give me my new baby. Stop making me wait BB :).
