CrackBerry Live: A chat with Marco van Hylckama Vlieg

By Michelle Haag on 16 May 2013 03:51 am

Marco van Hylckama Vlieg has a long history with CrackBerry, reaching way back to the BlackBerry Super Fanboy contest we held in 2011 where he was a finalist and ended up being one of the winners. He's all around a great guy, and spent some time on the CrackBerry Live set with Kevin and Adam. One they got past the correct pronunciation of Marcos name, and discussed the trend that Marco unknowingly started by wearing his PlayBook on a chain around his neck, they moved on to talk a bit about his current apps. Marco is the developer of the wildly popular The Last Weather App for the BlackBerry Z10 as well as Screamager and several other apps.

Marco has a session at BlackBerry Live this year on Thursday, so if you're there and want to check it out make sure you don't miss it! It's called The Ultimate Hybrid App -- Native Apps Built with Web Technologies and will help you learn how you can build hybrid applications, leveraging Web technologies to control native UI, with all the performance and behaviors you expect for the best experience on BlackBerry 10.

Amen to The Last Weather App! I get a kick out of showing off the screen caps.

The Last Weather App gets a lot of attention from my iOS friends. I can't tell you how many times I've had to stop them from searching for it on their iPhone.
