* LAST DAY TO ENTER: Ok, the truth is I love this blog post image so any excuse to run it again is fine with me, but we are down to the FINAL HOURS of this contest... so get in for your chance to win 1 of 2 BlackBerry PlayBooks. If you haven't dropped and given us your list of apps you'd like to see come to the BlackBerry PlayBook, stop what you're doing and do this now!! *

OK, so you don't actually have to drop and give us 20 pushups, but you will have to stop what you're doing, give it some thought, and let us know with a comment to this blog post the top apps/games/services/etc. you'd like to see come to the BlackBerry PlayBook. The time it takes will be worth the effort, as we'll be picking two lucky winners from among those who drop and give us their must-have app list to win a FREE BlackBerry PlayBook. For this contest we're not talking the small stuff here, but the big hitting apps and services and names you know and use that are out there on other platforms but not yet on the PlayBook. For example, Angry Birds, Skype, Kindle, etc...

  • Prizes: Two brand new BlackBerry PlayBooks are up for grabs for two lucky winners.
  • How To Enter: Leave a comment to this blog post listing the apps/services/games you want to see come to the BlackBerry PlayBook in YOUR order of priority. If you can come up with 20, that's awesome. If it's less, that's ok too. Just spill your guts on what apps you REALLY want to be able to install on your PlayBook asap!
  • Contest Details: Contest open worldwide. Deadline is midnight ET on June 30th, 2011.  Please just leave one comment to this post. We'll announce the winners on July 1st, 2011.
For some more insight on where PlayBook apps are at, be sure to check out our PlayBook Apps Initiative thread in the forums. That's it. Now drop what you're doing, and give us 20!!!  Best of luck!

So I am in as well :)

First the most obvious part:
1) Skype :)
2) TuneIn Radio
3) Angry Birds ;)
4) Opera
5) BBM
6) Twitter
7) Photoshop-like app
8) PDF Creator

Now something unusual:
9) BB Desktop Manager: if I have that on my PB, then no need for me to carry arround my notebook just for the backing up purposes, or new OS install. I would love to use my PB for this purpose! (Yeah, I know I'd need the USB - but that's hardware need, and here we don't discuss it, do we ?;-) )
10) If the DM would be there, so why not to dream of BBSAK ?

RIM needs to listen and take a good look at what people are posting here! They need to work with these third party app providers to get these things going otherwise the Playbook despite its great ability is going to lose out big time. The things that would set Playbook apart:

1. Skype - full video, audio and chat capabilities. If you could log into your Skype account from the already existing Video chat app all the better!
2. Native Email, Calender and notes - most people who have Playbooks also have Blackberry phones so these things arent a huge deal, but for those without Blackberry's it is a problem and you would probably buy something else.
3. Microsoft Office - YES...Boring but essential if this is really a PROFESSIONAL TABLET! Ability to do all the document editing that my PC allows would be great and then there would be no need for PC!
4. Proper pdf Reader with ability to copy and put in notes.
5. Android App Player - Not only does RIM need this out but they also need to make it easy for Android App developers to submit apps and give them incentives, otherwise they wont.
6. A decent GPS navigation App,....Lets face it BING sucks and so far there is no Google Maps. Voic commands would be a bonus!
7. Movie download app - something like iTunes with the ability to buy and hire movies would be awesome.
8. Bridge extension - Blackberry Bridge is great, but the ability to answer calls, send SMS would be even better. Also ability for Bridge to give internet access to run other apps would be amazing.
9. Fully funcional, quick, secure remote desktop app - like LogMeIn would again make this the Professional Tablet.
10. Ebay and along with that comes PayPal.
11. Dropbox
12. Photoshop
13. Kindle, even though Kobo is pretty good for Books, its not quite as good as Kindle
14. More childrens games and educational stuff. This is one area where the iPhone really kills anything else. My 3 year old loves playing the apps and games on the iPhone and I know a bunch of people whos kids are the same.
15. Radio app - something that lets you listen to any digital/internet radio station
16. A sports app - anything that gives live scores, stats and updates would be fantastic, someone like ESPN should do it.
17. Social feeds app - the one on my Blackberry Phone is great and it allows me to keep up to date with twitter, facebook and many rss feeds in the one place.
18. Crackberry app - oh it already exists! I love it!!! (Yes a shameless plug)

Thats probably it. No need for even 20, thats the beauty of the Playbook, it is good as is but can be the best Tab going around with only a few, simple apps!!

kayos_m

1- Native Email Client that works with the Bridge and stand alone. Accounts have to be synced so once the email is downloaded on the playbook, it should reflect in the same on the bb.

2- Video Chat, i would opt for Googletalk integration, rather that skype, but skype would do fine.

3- Document editor and creator

4- Photo and video editing app

5- Calendar / memopad / to do / appoints - A top not scheduler

6- Wireless backup and sync of documents / images

7- Flash builder lite - create flash content on the go!

8- Web it - putting together a simple html webpages on the go.

9- Networker - allowing pairing with other devices based on email accounts, not tethering but bridging.

10- Native BBM client - working though bridge and wifi!

11- Flash downloads

12- Live streaming apps (Hulu, Netflix)

13- The destroyer - playbook safe button to delete all info and render device unusable if stolen. this can be linked to incorrect password entries. The book will freeze forever, until a master reset and sync with system owner / bridging device.

14- Apps downloader - Automatically starts downloading apps when a wifi connection is found and connected to.

Dockable keyboard - Asus tranformer types! professional grade tablet needs a keyboard to become a true content creator! plus you can add so many things to the dock like usb host , memory card slot, etc. this is of topic but relevant if you ask me!

The playbook..the greatest thing RIM has created thus far and what a dream it would be to win one so I could finally shut all my friends up who are all iPad fanboys and be like "yeah baby there's a new badboy in town" :P

Anyways here's my app list for the pb:

1) MSN messenger because I'm practically signed into that all the time.

2) Skype of course!

3) Microsoft office

4) Some sort of remote desktop connection app to access my home PC wherever I am

5) A navigation app something like the TomTom which so many people here in the UK use but I wanna be different and use my PB to get around.

6) A facial recognition app that would only let you use the PB once it recognises your face for extra security.

7) I've always wanted something like this but I don't know if its possible on the PB, basically a way to access my sky TV HD box and let me choose my favourite programmes to record on the box just incase I'm not at home to do it that way.

8) A app that would let me program in many different lanaguages such as C, C++ and Java as this would help me a lot for my university degree because it can be a headache sometimes trying to find pc's on campus which has the available programs to let you code as they're always taken up!

9) WinRar

10) Google Earth

11) Photoshop

12) BBM (native)

13) Some games such as Call of Duty, Assassins creed and Half Life 2 including Episode 1 and 2 (Gotta love the half life saga)
Angry Birds and loads of others.

14) A way to communicate with other tablets in a similar form of BBM.

15) WireShark

16) BBC news or Sky news app

17) Facebook (native) with Chat

18) A torrent app

19) Virtual DJ

20) As others have said here an improved Blackberry Bridge that allows you to do more things such as making and receiving calls or sending text messages.

I know I haven't given actual names for most of my 20 apps but I hope I've given some inspiration for app developers so they can put this on the playbook because in my opinion some of them would give a huge benefit to most people who own a PB. Anyways good luck to everyone.

BEST APP EVER...

I have only one APP request which would allow the playbook to instantly win the app battle. Like the Andriod player, a similar emulator to run IPAD/IOS apps.

Developers could port over their apps to the playbook and instantly have all the great apps on the playbook...

oh and skype too!

Angry Birds
SMS Bridge
GPS Navigation (TeleNav/Garmin/etc)
Camera Flash

korpinga

This from the Skype Playbook forum.

Anybody who can shed some kight in this????????

SO WHATS GOING ON?????

Is there a problem between RIM and Skype?
The statement from Skype reads it is costly to make an application, is this the only reason?

How come Skype made a Blackberry Application for Verizon only, why didnt the rest of the world get that? And why were they wiling to spend time and effort only for 1 provider? Verizon? when this "costly development" could have been used for all Blackberry service providers worldwide.

I have been a Blackberry user for more than 10 years, and have heard so many official release dates for Skype on blackberry, then the date passes and nothing happens.

In the pre release pictures of the PB there were clear pictures of Skype on it, and now we get a statement from Skype stating they currently have no plans for Skype on PB.

I really dont know whats going on............but we definitely are not getting all the info neither from Skype nor RIM

My 2 cents

Here's my most awaited apps, in no specific order.

1. Ubersocial - I cannot emphasize how much I need this app. Blaq is good as a stop-gap arrangement, but is just that.

2.googlemaps - Bing just doesn't cut it.

3. Skype - with full video calling capability

4. Beejive IM

5. TripIt - This is really important, and it has to be as slick as their iPad app

6. Blackberry News (for India, currently its available only for USA and Canada)

7. ProOngo Expense Reader

8. Bloomberg (like the Blackberry App, but more enhanced taking advantage of the PB's real-estate and processing power.

9. Kindle

10. PIM functionality - I use a BB and the bridge, but I would still appreciate the PIM for some accounts that I do not add on my BB.

IceHawk333

1) MSN Messenger
2) Yahoo Messenger
3) epub/mobi based ebook reader you can side-load
4) a Visio like office tool
5) BBC iPlayer you can access from Canada :)
6) Netflix
7) wallpaper/theme maker

And of course actually getting the whole Android thing out :D
Anything else I can think of are just games.

markishmark

hmm.. i haven't really been looking into all the stuff available on the playbook yet (i might be tempted to buy one asap if i do >.< ) but from what i've been reading and seeing...

1) Skype! - definitely! it would blow out all other competition if Skype would be available on the playbook. (honestly, i wish this not only for the playbook, i want Skype for my Bold 9780 as well!!)

2) Decent photo editing software ie. Photoshop! - it would be awesome to edit and fool around with photos on the playbook!

3) Decent video editing / format app! - not sure if the playbook can handle it though.

4) Kindle! or a similar app!

5) MS Office! (Word,Excel,Powerpoint!!,Outlook)

6) Powerpoint!! - i want this really!

7) Decent Anti-virus/anti spyware app - a fan of kaspersky! hope they make one for the playbook!

8) Meterberry

9) Video / Media player - app that can play multiple formats of video for the playbook( mp4, flv, etc)

10) Android apps! ;p

That's all i can think of at the moment! Others aren't apps, hehe.

Thanks RIM and Crackberry!

Praying i win!!!!

Good luck to everyone!
