Grooveshark For BlackBerry Updated To v1.0.7 By Bla1ze | 09 Feb 2010 12:44 |
Grooveshark, the premium streaming music application we looked at previously has rolled out an update recently. Sadly, no changelog was issued with the release but users opening up the application were indeed, prompted to download what is now v1.0.7. Seems a lot of T-Mobile users were having issues with getting the application to work previously, so maybe you'll want to give this version a shot to see if it works better. Grooveshark is available for $3/mnth through their VIP program which allows for unlimited streaming and caching of music played for offline usage.

WorldMate has long been know as the "go-to" app for travelers. With flight alerts, hotel info, itinerary tracking, weather and more, WorldMate stands above the rest. Today they have added another weapon to their arsenal by announcing integration with the popular business network LinkedIn. The new partnership allows WorldMate users to share travel and meeting itineraries, notify contacts when arriving in destination cities, search contacts by city and more.
This makes WorldMate one of the first companies to incorporate with LinkedIn and offer enhanced features. The new tools will definitely keep WorldMate at the top of it's game, and give users multiple options for better staying in touch with business contacts when traveling. The LinkedIn app is still said to be on the way, but this will help keep users in touch for the mean time. A WorldMate Gold subscription will run you $99 for the year (a free trial is available) but if you travel often it is well worth it. The new version will be pushed out to current users on February 16th. Check out the full press release after the jump. Google Reader App Unread Now Available for All 5.0 Devices By Adam Zeis | 08 Feb 2010 12:16 |
Still no Google Reader app for our beloved BlackBerry devices, but one solution has popped up that appears to be a good hold-over until an official Google Reader app shows up (or if it shows up). Unread was previously only available for the Storm, but has just been released for all devices running OS 5.0. The app is plain and simple, allowing you to view all of your Google Reader feeds, and it even updates read/unread status in real-time. There are a few options for tweaking Unread to your liking, allowing you to get it working to fit your needs. It automatically refreshes feeds in the background, supports full HTML and fully integrates with your Google Reader account. If you're looking for an app to get your Google Reader subscriptions on the go, Unread may be the one for you. Check it out for $4.99 in the CrackBerry App Store.

Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup Part 4: Openbeak By Adam Zeis | 08 Feb 2010 09:22 | OpenBeak (formerly TwitterBerry) is probably one of the best known Twitter clients for BlackBerry. When Twitter first started its monumental rise, TwitterBerry was one of the few clients available for BlackBerry, and everyone who was jumping on the Twitter wagon got in on the action. New clients began to show up, and TwitterBerry quickly fell to the back of the pack. It didn't totally go away, and now rebranded OpenBeak, it still hopes to capture users with its simple features and ease of use. Take a look at the video above for a quick overview of OpenBeak's features (or lack of) and see how it compares to the other clients in our Ultimate Twitter Client Roundup.

Genius Medical Diary Keeps Track of All Your Important Medical Info By Obi | 08 Feb 2010 09:22 |
I recently came across a very interesting application called Genius Medical Diary by Gurparit Chand. It stood out to me, seeing as I have not really seen an app quite like this before. The app acts as a database for all of your pertinent medical information. It stores such data as name, social security number, blood type, medications, diseases/conditions, immunizations, contact numbers, emergency contacts, and insurance information. With this app, you can store as many medical profiles as you wish, making it great for qucik access to your entire family's medical info. The application also features backup/restore to device, which is nice with any app. Genius Medical Diary is on sale for $1.99 until March 1st for all Blackberrys running OS 4.5+. You can also try their free version BerryMed, however it does lack in features when comparing to Genius Medical Diary, which is to be expected.

Craigslist Mobile App for BlackBerry Smartphones Now Available in App World By Kevin Michaluk | 07 Feb 2010 17:11 |
If you're a hardcore Craiglist user and a BlackBerry fan you'll be happy to know that the craiglist mobile app for BlackBerry was finally approved into App World today (we first caught a glimpse of it back in November - check out that post for video). This full-featured app is the "official craigslist app" and was built for craigslist by Movela/Pyxis Mobile. That being the case, the bad news here is that the app carries a price tag of $4.99. It definitely provides a smoother and faster experience than running the mobile website, that's for sure, but may not be worth the $ for those who just check out craiglist from time to time. You can debate that one in the comments or discuss it in the forums!

Introducing SmrtGuard-Free: Provides Remote Tracking and Wiping of Device (and More) for Free! By Kevin Michaluk | 05 Feb 2010 12:20 | OK CrackBerry Nation, listen up. This is one I'm pretty dang excited about. If you're a reader of CrackBerry.com you're likely familiar with SmrtGuard by now as we've talked about it a bunch of times since it was still in beta. SmrtGuard, a BES for BIS application so to speak, is known for its "Find my BlackBerry" functionality along with Remote Data Wipe and OTA Data Backup / Restore features. It's definitely one of those must-have apps for BlackBerry BIS customers, but it has always been a must-have app with a price. But there's good news... the folks at SmrtGuard have now rolled out the SmrtGuard-Free version so it's an app we all can now afford. For the whopping price of $0.00, you get all of these features FREE for LIFE:
Did I mention you get all of that FOR FREE?! Oh yeah, you also get their secure data back-up and migration (in case you are switching from Android to BlackBerry or vice versa) features for 30 Days, which comes standard in their premium version of SmrtGuard Pro. To get SmrtGuard-Free, just follow the link below and enter your email address to be sent the link. This is one of those apps I really think every BlackBerry user should have installed and running, so be sure to spread the word.

Snaptu For BlackBerry Updated To v.1.2.8 By Bla1ze | 05 Feb 2010 10:14 |
Snaptu, the widget-based application got a version bump up to v1.2.8 from the previously available v1.2.7. Sadly, I cannot find any definitive change log but from my use it does seem to have sped up the application a little bit more and you can now add a Google search bar to the main screen, were as before it was just a widget. Since Snaptu allows for multiple widgets to be created from within the app, you can add quite a few of your personal favorites: Twitter, Picasa, AccuWeather, RSS News Reader, Live Soccer Scores, MyMovies and the list goes on from there. I personally enjoy the Google reader widget since Google has yet to give us a dedicated solution. But I digress, you all can ask Adam how he feels about the situiation - he'll appreciate your concern, and of course be sure to check out Snaptu. ;)

Fandango BlackBerry App Updated And Offering Special Deals By Bla1ze | 04 Feb 2010 16:48 |
Fandango recently updated their BlackBerry application. Bug fixes and UI changes round out the latest version but for a short time you can also take advantage of the special offers Fandango has put in place. As the pic indicates, no service fee will be applied to any ticket sales from now until, March 7th. The app is free to download, so give it a run through and while you're at it, grab some tickets to a movie. I personally suggest Avatar if you haven't seen it yet.

BerryWeather 2.1 Gets Official; Thank You to Beta Tester Contest: 50 Free Copies of BerryWeather to be Won! By Kevin Michaluk | 04 Feb 2010 13:06 |
The folks at Bellshare let me know their insanely popular weather application BerryWeather has been updated to version 2.1.40 and is now out of public beta and officially available. A lot of key differences came with the 2.1 version as it's a re-write of the original code which will perform better across all BlackBerry devices, while taking nothing from the BerryWeather that so many have come to love. As a thank yout to everybody at CrackBerry who helped Bellshare with the beta testing of the latest version, they have offered us up 50 free copies to give away to our readers. Win a Free Copy of BerryWeather: Drop a comment on this post for your chance to win one of 50 full versions of BerryWeather. Let us know what your favorite season is or what you hate about your least favorite season. For me, it's winter. Hockey and curling and snowmobiling aside, Canadian winters are never fun as it often times gets cold enough to freeze your face off. I'd much rather be at the beach :)

Sirius XM Radio For BlackBerry Launched By Bla1ze | 04 Feb 2010 08:47 |
We had heard before that SIRIUS XM was launching their dedicated app for BlackBerry sometime near the end of January. While that time came and past we still had no app from them available. Seems like we just had to wait a little bit longer, the observant folks in the forums have let us know the application is now available. Devices supported, as indicated on the site are Curve 8500, Bold, Storm and Tour. With the application you do get a free 7 day trial and after that it's required that you sign up for one of the subscription options that are available. 120 channel, no ads - but sadly it appears no Howard Stern either. Check it out, let us know in the comments what you think of it.
