Contest: BlackBerry Storm 2 Coming in June?

There's lots of buzz around the interwebs today that the BlackBerry Storm 2 could be hitting store shelves much sooner than most of us would think, with rumors suggesting a release as early as before the end of this month or sometime in June. As much as I would LOVE for this to pan out to be true, my CrackBerry gut says we'll all have to wait a little longer than that to get our hands on a store-purchased model.

Our best info right now slates pre-production of the next generation Storm (which RIM internally refers to by the codename BlackBerry "Odin") to begin early next month and from there an official release is usually a couple months out (VZW's technical acceptance process usually takes 2-3 weeks on a device, so even if they approved it off the first pre-production run we'd still be looking at July). And this is Verizon were talking about here... the pickiest of the carriers... who also have the BlackBerry Tour 9630 to roll out still and after a less-than-stellar Storm 1 experience won't want to put out Storm 2 until it's ready. And they won't want to stack the 9630/Storm 2 releases too close to eachother. At this point, I'd rate a May release as impossible, a June launch as potentially possible but improbable, a July release as targeted/more realistic but tight (think end of the month, fingers crossed), an August launch as more likely but if you throw in the usual BlackBerry/Verizon delays then I wouldn't even be suprised to see it launch later than that. As always in the world of BlackBerry, all will be known with time.

Storm 2 Before the End of June Contest: Let's have some fun here! I'd love to see a June launch happen. I really would. I just don't think it will. So to that end, we'll take a gamble and run one helluva contest.... LEAVE a comment to this blog post. For every day that the BlackBerry Storm 2 is on sale in the month of June 2009 we'll give one away to a CrackBerry member. So if the Storm 2 is available for purchase on June 1st, we'll give away 30 Storm 2's over the course of the month. If it's available on June 15th, we'll give away 16. If it's available on the 30th, we'll give away one. And if it doesn't go up for sale in June at all, we'll give away none. Should make for an interesting month, huh? I am in, if they release it that is. I can't wait for the storm 2. I am hoping that it is better than the Storm 1, I am a proud storm owner and love the phone, however, it would be great to have a flawless one. Or at least one that doesnt have to reset every other day or so.

Well lets see if verizon releases it that quick. If do ill be amazed that crackberry.com wasn't on top of it until neat the end. Maybe because of the tour buzz going on these forums. If vzw really comes out with a storm 2 I don't know I ill be upgrading so quick. I happen to like surepress and if the new one. Doesn't have it is a big no-no. I love th storm. I've used bb curves on 3 different carriers and those things are junk and the bold isn't all that great either. I really don't give a damn about wifi. Evdo is plenty quick. So let's see his th second storm does. Maybe it'll be "the perfect storm "

Hahahahahahaha. The chances of Verizon making a deadline with the storm2 are very slim. But, I'll put my name in for a free storm, even though there is no chance it will happen.

The new storm model probably won't be out until right before winter hits, more than likely around September or October. The later launch will help remove any problems and by then kids will probably want it for school and such. And it had better not be as buggy as my storm.

I'm so glad to know that RIM dedicated their efforts to putting a new Storm 2 out on the market so soon instead of trying to improve the piece of garbage OS running on the current Storm. I can't wait to switch to the Tour because it appears that RIM just gave up on the current Storm.

I planned on submitting a video for the first contest but I made a fatal mistake. I made a video of my events for the day and it went as follows...

I had consumed a bunch of pies for lunch and afterwards I decided I wanted to go for a 32 km run (that's right I'm from Canada and we use kilometers) when I got side tracked. I was going to get 6 tattoos done of that new BlackBerry Storm and other related symbols so I went to the local tattoo parlour to discover they were hosting a chocolate pudding wrestling match. I entered and I won but my opponent wasn't too pleased so after I got my tattoos he showed up with a paintball gun and blasted me with a whole pile of paintballs. I tried to cover myself with my trusty CrackBerry quilt but it wasn't helping so I decided to run. I ran and ran until I ran 32 km and I felt safe but something was missing. I had to get rid of my old Palm Treo because it was driving me nuts. I went in my garage and used my powertools to bust it up good. It was turning out to be a wicked video but I made a huge mistake. When I went to visit my buddy at the airfield he wanted to toss my Palm Treo out of the B-52 Bomber he was flying. I told him I already detroyed my Palm so he said he has to toss something out so he used my video camera.

And that's why there's no video to prove all of this. I guess you'll have to take my word for it. Maybe I can snag me a Storm 2 as a consolation prize.

No way!! I'll guess the 1st of the year.. maybe as early as Nov. to hit the Xmas sale time... There's still a lot of bad blood with the 1st version.. the sooner the better..

I had my bb stolen like a month ago and have been using a crappy lg env (original). It depresses me to text and attempt to function with this dumb phone. Please crackberry spare me and send me the storm 2 to fill the void left by my storm1.

Arghhhh just bought Storm 1 a few days ago, loving it and I will be looking foward to Storm 2. Hopefully there will be a lot of improvement.

I feel really bad for my best friend. He just got the Storm. He loves it, but he's already spent the money....I happen to think the click-screen is pretty cool once you get used to it.

I have read many reviews on the Storm 1, and frankly, I really like my Storm. June is too early, July is not enough time so I hope it is launched when ready. - Holiday season '09.

I'd love to see it, but from Verizon? The guys who still operate their telecom biz like it's 1974? These guys don't understand the meaning of "perfect is the enemy of good enough".
