Contest: BlackBerry Storm 2 Coming in June?

There's lots of buzz around the interwebs today that the BlackBerry Storm 2 could be hitting store shelves much sooner than most of us would think, with rumors suggesting a release as early as before the end of this month or sometime in June. As much as I would LOVE for this to pan out to be true, my CrackBerry gut says we'll all have to wait a little longer than that to get our hands on a store-purchased model.

Our best info right now slates pre-production of the next generation Storm (which RIM internally refers to by the codename BlackBerry "Odin") to begin early next month and from there an official release is usually a couple months out (VZW's technical acceptance process usually takes 2-3 weeks on a device, so even if they approved it off the first pre-production run we'd still be looking at July). And this is Verizon were talking about here... the pickiest of the carriers... who also have the BlackBerry Tour 9630 to roll out still and after a less-than-stellar Storm 1 experience won't want to put out Storm 2 until it's ready. And they won't want to stack the 9630/Storm 2 releases too close to eachother. At this point, I'd rate a May release as impossible, a June launch as potentially possible but improbable, a July release as targeted/more realistic but tight (think end of the month, fingers crossed), an August launch as more likely but if you throw in the usual BlackBerry/Verizon delays then I wouldn't even be suprised to see it launch later than that. As always in the world of BlackBerry, all will be known with time.

Storm 2 Before the End of June Contest: Let's have some fun here! I'd love to see a June launch happen. I really would. I just don't think it will. So to that end, we'll take a gamble and run one helluva contest.... LEAVE a comment to this blog post. For every day that the BlackBerry Storm 2 is on sale in the month of June 2009 we'll give one away to a CrackBerry member. So if the Storm 2 is available for purchase on June 1st, we'll give away 30 Storm 2's over the course of the month. If it's available on June 15th, we'll give away 16. If it's available on the 30th, we'll give away one. And if it doesn't go up for sale in June at all, we'll give away none. Should make for an interesting month, huh? So I am sitting here reading abut this great phone and wondering ~ could my integrity filled RIM have actually pulled a fast one on me?
Am I paranoid?
I don't think so.
With so many people hyped about the iPhone and wanting some of the jazz it holds, I know RIM was anxious to jump on the band wagon.
Sure, first generation anythings are always a gamble, but it was a RIM product and who doesn't have total confidence in RIM? I know I did.
So did they release the Storm too quickly, or was it pure greed that drove them?
You tell me?
Either way, yes, I'll be hocking the "whatever" to get my hands on this new Storm ~ sorry, I meant Odin, but I have the first one now and this next time I better be impressed.
I have owned every phone RIM had made, and followed them loyally, so I think they owe me one, okay two, Storm 2 that is.
So, yes, I would love to win one and I promise to try every new leaked BETA released and report back diligently about the performance and such.
Heck, I am even doing favours for one of the super well liked theme developers here on the forum, for free, so could you return the favour and let me have a STORM2 PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I truly hope i can win this contest. i already own a storm and it is great. Unfortunately, those pretentious iPhone owners still refuse to believe the storm is better. if the first Storm isn't, than the Storm 2 is the first touch screen phone that can top the iPhone. I have a storm and I'm pretty satisfied with it if RIM releases the storm 2 so soon into the lifecycle of the storm it's obvious they're going to drag their feet and try to push the storm 2 instead. What a load of crap. I'm going to be pissed if I bought my storm and had it only a couple of months and they release the next touchscreen blackberry so soon.

It's a little ridiculous that RIM is gonna release the storm 2 when the only official firmware release for the storm 1 still feels like a beta version, but at the same time im excited about the new storm!

I'm wondering if this is just going to be another phone RIM wants to add to its touch screen fleet, or lack there of, rather then have the same disaster the iPhone had updating the model in less then a year. I may be smart for them to name it somthing other than the Storm 2 and market it as a touch screen phone that doesn't click for those who would prefer it that way.

Wow, can't wait for the release. Makes me sad I didn't wait 3 more months and I could have had the new one. Interesting no clicking with the new one and a screen just like the iphone. Watch out apple, the Storm was the best I'd seen since the iphone, now with the mechanic portion out of the way look for AT&T to lose yet more money and customers. Kudos Blackberry and Verizon.

Coooooooooooollllll, Love to Own Storm 2 for free, currently own the 1st storm, and still playin around with it, i actually like it the only thing laking is the Wi-Fi, but hey u can't expect an rv to fit in a mini cooper so pretty happy with what i have, and any way sicne storm 2 has Wi-fi would love to own that, just hope i don't have to keep my data plan, if i do than no point of having wifi, but, any i will still try my luck at this,

Really don't see a chance of it dropping so soon, but if it does I'll be the sad kid on the block when I ask someone "Is that your storm" and hear "No, it's my totally awesome Storm2" :(

I wonder if i'll get a good enough deal selling my storm unlocked via calling vzw??

I was excited about the Storm I. Almost got it, but the experience was a bit unsatisfying even though it is an amazing piece of gadgetry. So after all this wait, we finally get to see/get a new and improved version! :D Can't wait to test-drive/win one! Go RIM

Hope the battery lasts as long as the 8830 did and longer than the Storm 1 does. Hope the software that is loaded works better than Storm 1 does...nonetheless I love my Storm. Love the large display and feel of the phone.

This sounds like an incredible contest however my only question is is there something that you know that we don't? I am hoping for a June release however it would be nice to know what the differences are between the 1st and 2nd, other than the click screen...

I would like to have the Storm2(odin) but I got the 9530 now so there isn't away to get it and I really love blackberries. But any way I do think the Storm 2 will be out in June it will be nice if it does come out.
