Contest: BlackBerry Storm 2 Coming in June?

There's lots of buzz around the interwebs today that the BlackBerry Storm 2 could be hitting store shelves much sooner than most of us would think, with rumors suggesting a release as early as before the end of this month or sometime in June. As much as I would LOVE for this to pan out to be true, my CrackBerry gut says we'll all have to wait a little longer than that to get our hands on a store-purchased model.

Our best info right now slates pre-production of the next generation Storm (which RIM internally refers to by the codename BlackBerry "Odin") to begin early next month and from there an official release is usually a couple months out (VZW's technical acceptance process usually takes 2-3 weeks on a device, so even if they approved it off the first pre-production run we'd still be looking at July). And this is Verizon were talking about here... the pickiest of the carriers... who also have the BlackBerry Tour 9630 to roll out still and after a less-than-stellar Storm 1 experience won't want to put out Storm 2 until it's ready. And they won't want to stack the 9630/Storm 2 releases too close to eachother. At this point, I'd rate a May release as impossible, a June launch as potentially possible but improbable, a July release as targeted/more realistic but tight (think end of the month, fingers crossed), an August launch as more likely but if you throw in the usual BlackBerry/Verizon delays then I wouldn't even be suprised to see it launch later than that. As always in the world of BlackBerry, all will be known with time.

Storm 2 Before the End of June Contest: Let's have some fun here! I'd love to see a June launch happen. I really would. I just don't think it will. So to that end, we'll take a gamble and run one helluva contest.... LEAVE a comment to this blog post. For every day that the BlackBerry Storm 2 is on sale in the month of June 2009 we'll give one away to a CrackBerry member. So if the Storm 2 is available for purchase on June 1st, we'll give away 30 Storm 2's over the course of the month. If it's available on June 15th, we'll give away 16. If it's available on the 30th, we'll give away one. And if it doesn't go up for sale in June at all, we'll give away none. Should make for an interesting month, huh? I have the Storm 9530. I have the new Bell OS on it and it works great. I have nothing bad to say about it. With a second model coming out whether it be next month or next year I cant wait to get ahold of it.

Why I shouldn't win the new Storm 2:
1)There are more needy people then me.
2)I am not that unhappy with the 1st Gen. Storm.
3)I've only had to replace my Storm once since February.

Why I should win the new Storm2:
1)The last time I ever won a contest was in 4th grade (33 years ago). It was a raffle for an Entermans chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. One of the happiest days of my life.
(only kidding).

My buddy has a Stom and his hands are too big when he tries to text with it. But he said he is excited to get a new Stom 2. I've checked the Storm out and I will be anxious to see just how they"ve tweaked it from the original.

I'm sad to see that my original Storm will be obsolete...especially since I just bought another one for $200 since my last one was stolen...but I'm happy to see RIM working on making improvements on the phone. I'd love to have a Storm 2!

I really hope that VZW does not forget Storm 1 owners and stop releasing firmware updates. I hate it when a new device comes out and they drop all updates and such for it once the new versions is out.

I really like the new screen. Looks like it might be better to type on possibly.

I just purchased my storm maybe 3 months ago and hate it, i have had BB phones in the past and the storm by far sucks...if the Storm 2 is what it says it is I want in...I hate the push screen...the OS is ok but found out it freezes and when i take a video recording it doesn't play back...so if anyone knows if the Storm 2 is comming and knows of a way for me to get my hands on one that would be awesome...

If they really do come out with the Storm 2 this soon, Verizon should be giving me one for free since they haven't made the Storm 1 work to its full potential yet. But that's obviously not happening, so if it comes out hopefully I'll win one from Crackberry.

Finally they get the storm to a point we don't have to worry about stuff getting under the screen :) Although I think I will miss the ability to hover and then press thus making less errors in typing. Thanks for keeping us in the loop and drooling for more ;)

I wanted to get the first storm but I just could not get over the how annoying the sure press screen was. I went to the Verizon store probably 10 times just contemplating whether I could get over it, but in the end I decided to wait and it paid off. The Storm 2 is sure to make all those people who were in the same boat as I was go out and get it.

Im not sure how to feel about the Blackberry Storm 2 being released so soon as ive got a storm and when its working its awesome unfortunately when the screen freezes i just wanna throw it through a window. Im stuck with this until feb 2010 due to my contract. If i won one of the Storm 2s i would be over the moon as i expect this is going to be the phone the Storm shouldve been. PUH PUH PUH PUH PLEASSSSSSSEEEEEE pick me. Otherwise im stuck with my phone for another year :-(

So just from the photos it looks really nice. thinner and a tad smoother looking than the previous but I am still fuming that it seems rim/verizon abandoned the first storm and is now just pushing forward with the storm 2. I feel like kids from the first marriage that didnt work and now both parents are happily married elsewhere. I hope there is a riot if current storm users dont get a discount on the storm 2.

I really feel that this RIM is doing a bang up job on keeping up with customer demands. by that i mean taking care of issues and reading through these treads to find the real comments they are looking for to better there hand sets and advanced devices. As far as releasing OS they are spitting them out left and right at verizon one will stick soon! although i will miss the sure press screen it helps out while driving (not that i use my phone while i am driving) :) but no for real it was def the first of its type and i guess last!?

I'm not a Storm one hater. I love this thing, and anyone that says it stinks should go get an iPhone. Cause a complete idiot could run the thing. The storm has way more PC type functions that I haven't found on any other phone, As much as I wanted the first Storm I look forward to seeing the changes into the second. Just hope I like 2 better than 1. I'm not getting rid of the original just in case I want to switch back. I like the sure press.

Having just bought my BB Storm 9530 in January I was just starting to get attached to it. However, if the Storm 2 (Odin) lives up to all the hype its getting online I will happily upgrade and save my Storm just in case of emergency :)

Im still a little miffed that they are already flaunting the "S2" so soon after dropping the first. Ohh well, guess that is what I get for jumping on the storm right out of the gate.
