Contest: BlackBerry Storm 2 Coming in June?

There's lots of buzz around the interwebs today that the BlackBerry Storm 2 could be hitting store shelves much sooner than most of us would think, with rumors suggesting a release as early as before the end of this month or sometime in June. As much as I would LOVE for this to pan out to be true, my CrackBerry gut says we'll all have to wait a little longer than that to get our hands on a store-purchased model.

Our best info right now slates pre-production of the next generation Storm (which RIM internally refers to by the codename BlackBerry "Odin") to begin early next month and from there an official release is usually a couple months out (VZW's technical acceptance process usually takes 2-3 weeks on a device, so even if they approved it off the first pre-production run we'd still be looking at July). And this is Verizon were talking about here... the pickiest of the carriers... who also have the BlackBerry Tour 9630 to roll out still and after a less-than-stellar Storm 1 experience won't want to put out Storm 2 until it's ready. And they won't want to stack the 9630/Storm 2 releases too close to eachother. At this point, I'd rate a May release as impossible, a June launch as potentially possible but improbable, a July release as targeted/more realistic but tight (think end of the month, fingers crossed), an August launch as more likely but if you throw in the usual BlackBerry/Verizon delays then I wouldn't even be suprised to see it launch later than that. As always in the world of BlackBerry, all will be known with time.

Storm 2 Before the End of June Contest: Let's have some fun here! I'd love to see a June launch happen. I really would. I just don't think it will. So to that end, we'll take a gamble and run one helluva contest.... LEAVE a comment to this blog post. For every day that the BlackBerry Storm 2 is on sale in the month of June 2009 we'll give one away to a CrackBerry member. So if the Storm 2 is available for purchase on June 1st, we'll give away 30 Storm 2's over the course of the month. If it's available on June 15th, we'll give away 16. If it's available on the 30th, we'll give away one. And if it doesn't go up for sale in June at all, we'll give away none. Should make for an interesting month, huh? Well, I've been torn back and forth between the Storm 2 and the Tour, especially when rumors of a possible physical keyboard on the Storm 2 (doubt that'll happen tho). However.......a free Storm 2 would definitely make the decision for me ;)

I have mixed feelings about this on the one side i'm happy a new storm is coming out but on the other i'm kind of mad it would be so close to the release of the first one which i got and have been waiting for an official OS since forever.

I own the first gen. Storm and really enjoy it, I actually got one thinking the 2nd gen. would be out fairly soon. I was correct. :P Hope I win, would save me $$ on upgrading. Broke college kid here, the $30 a month is already a hit. Would be nice. :D

Had version 1 for 30 days and returned it. Just too much work to do some basic things you can do with a curve or other phone (i.e. speed dial is one push of a button (and hold)). For the storm v1, you had to a few things to get there (outside of voice dialing which doesn't always work).

Am interested in v2 though and hope it is better. Will keep my eyes on it. Of course it would be nice to win a free one!

I hope they do release it so i could upgrade. I am tired of having to do a software upgrade every other week. But if they do they will be opening up a huge problem for existing storm users that have been told that they have to keep waiting for a new offical software update. It would also hurt the tour sales too.

My contract with Verizon isn't up 'til next year, but I would love a Storm 2 (Odin). I wanted the original, but wasn't allowed to upgrade before my renewal date. I really don't want to wait until next year! ;-)

I have a Storm right now and Love it. I does have it's issues and it's the 4th one Ive had but I still love it! It's kinda like my wife. At the end of the day after all the nagging and other things she does that gets on my nerves. I still Love her. Hopefully it will come out on June 1st. Almost 6,000 posts. What's the odds? Oh well, please pic me if it does happen to come out. Thanks!!!

Same thing we do every night Pinky! Firstly, when the Storm 2 come out in June and I win one, BRILLIANT! If I win one, I'm pretty sure I would have the only one in Africa (I live in South Africa). with my new Super Storm, I would firstly take over South Africa and then the rest of Africa. Single handidly I would make Blackberry the only legal phone and then plot world domination.

I hope that RIM and VZW have updated the Storm 2. I have resulted to downgrading back to my LG Voyager b/c of several issues that the Storm 1 has with restarting and freezing up. Although, later today I am going to try the new leaked .148. Hopefully Storm 1 owners won't get left out of the updates.

Hey folks... I've been putting up with all of the quirks of the 9530 Storm and have been waiting, waiting, waiting for the new OS to OFFICIALLY arrive. I've been "playing by the rules" and not adding the leaked OS and have been waiting patiently. My patience, unfortunately, is running somewhat thin although I still love my Storm. Please help me and allow me to have the new one. I love Crackberry! You guys rock!

Hey listen, being a realist never precluded anyone from winning cool stuff! Truthfully, I think it is UNLIKELY we will see the Storm 2 in June. Hey we don't even have a VZW approved OS update for the STORM 1 yet and that is rumored to be released for just about every week! At least that is according to the yidiots who trust the VZW rep who told me If I stand on my head, count to three, and chant ALI BABA! ALI BABA! then it will come EVENTUALLY. Lets be real guys, we probably wont see the Storm 2 in June. But if I am wrong, and trust me I hope I am, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE WIN ME A STORM 2 !!!!

I have *no* complaints with the Storm One--my main concern as a Verizon customer is that they'll leave me behind once the II comes out...
