Compose email faster than ever with Compose Email for the BlackBerry PlayBook
If you’ve been around CrackBerry since the launch of PlayBook OS 2.0 then you’ve probably heard a few complaints about the amount of time it takes for the native PIM apps to open on the PlayBook. While we wait for Research In Motion to release an update that will speed up the launching of apps, a developer has gone ahead and made an app to help those of you that just can't stand waiting.
The app is called Compose Email and has been developed by Willw.net. Now I must stress that this isn’t an email application. What Compose Email does is allow you to compose your emails in the app and then it will transfer the email into the native application, but in a fraction of the time that it would take for the native email app to open.
Features
- Compose email in Portrait or Landscape
- Integration with the native Messages App
- Automatic copy-to-clipboard
- Copy & Paste
- Launches faster than Messages
- Matches style of the 2.0 Messages, Contacts, and Calendar apps
Also something that a lot of BlackBerry users have been asking for is portrait mode in the native email app, which is another gap that Compose Email can fill. It offers the same look and feel as the native application and the best part is, it’s free. If you’re looking to speed up your email writing on the
PlayBook then this app is a must.

Unfortunately my PlayBook still needs a lot of catching up to do.

Nice to see devs pushing out. Especially to help fill holes in the playbook.

This app may launch faster than Messages but you still need to launch Messages to send your email. Thus, the extra step adds additional time. The app should open Messages not the background.

Definitely true. This app gets you to the typing part quicker, not the sending. It would be great if I could open the Messages app in the background while you are typing your email, but I don't think that is possible. In any event, I bet BlackBerry 10 update will make it a non-issue when the email app supports portrait and is always running in the background.

Just loaded it up,not bad nice to have portrait mode! New to the PlayBook but the whole message app seem to be a bit of an abortion. This should help thanks

I did not find "Compose Email" to load faster than my Messages app. Pointless if you ask me. You can compose multiple email messages at one in the Messages app.
The advertisement for Will's other app gets annoying after a while. The message keeps popping up. Uninstalling...

Did the advertisement pop up while you were typing a message? It should only come up after you send or copy to the clipboard.

"a few complaints about the amount of time it takes for the native PIM apps to open on the PlayBook."
Seriously?!?!?! Who's life is so busy that you can't wait the 10 seconds before you can start typing someone's email address (8.5 seconds before you can tap create email). SMH.

Has anyone tried to use Compose email when replying to an email. In the application after you copy the text to the clipboard the popup states that you can paste the clipboard into your email. I have not figured out how to do it.
I may be an idiot as well so don't discount the LSBK factor.
Thank for any help.

You should be able to paste into an email reply in the Messages app.
To do it, tap in the compose area (in Messages) and a popup should come up with a Paste button. Sometimes it is a bit tricky to bring up the Paste option, so it can help to type a word, then tap on it to bring up the paste option.

willwnet,
Thanks for the tip. On my playbook I had to tap the cursor to get the menu to pop up with the paste option.
Love the app!!

It took a while for me to compose emails on this, but I finally did on this Playbook. http://www.geekchoice.com
