Leaked: OS 6.0.0.161 for the BlackBerry Torch 9800
Not even a week after release and we have our first leaked OS for the BlackBerry Torch 9800 thanks to ChadH42 and orleff. AT&T officially released OS 6.0.0.141 last week, and today we have OS 6.0.0.161 for download. We're not sure whats new and improved but its most likely worth checking out. Keep in mind this isn't an official release, so use caution when installing so you don't screw up your new toy :-)
*OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS). *

HavPlenty Aug 16, 2010 at 2:52 pm
No one knows of a tentative drop date? Been talkin' about OS6 for what feels like over a year now.
sincedyone Aug 17, 2010 at 4:13 am
... TO REALEASE THEIR MOST RECENT OS for all the iphones when the iphone 4 came out. So frustrating RIM!!! Overrated piece of crap.
reverepats Aug 16, 2010 at 2:48 pm
how come theres a leak for the 9800. i mean i know there was another official release for the 9800 a few days ago, but does this conclude more features for the 9800 or sumthin. i dont understand why theres a leak for it if OS6 has already been made official for this device
hammer_gaidin Aug 16, 2010 at 2:50 pm
The past one was them posting the current version that was getting put on the release 9800.
DeathNoltz Aug 16, 2010 at 2:49 pm
Get the OS 6 leaks out for other devices!!!!! Come on!
reverepats Aug 16, 2010 at 2:52 pm
ohh ok....i just was sure. i'm getting sort of confused thats all........theres already been, what?....2 official release's for the 9800 and now a leak. its just funny to me thats all. i mean i'm happy for those 9800 owners! i really am.............but making a leak for a device thats already got 2 official releases already, just wierd to me
SuBee Aug 16, 2010 at 2:59 pm
Oh Gosh! When is OS 6 going to be available for BlackBerry Bold 9700!?
yeahboyyy Aug 16, 2010 at 3:02 pm
1. Can we ban this joker who's trying to sell shoes on crackberry?
2. A lot of us have this phone called the Bold 9650....please us already.
MILLYBLICK Aug 16, 2010 at 3:15 pm
1. I agree, that joker always makes me think like why are you on a phone site selling fake clothes and sneakers.
2. Yesss, they need to already but also for the Bold 9700.
Illuminated_A Aug 16, 2010 at 3:39 pm
I agree. Like is he for real?
bold1193 Aug 16, 2010 at 4:13 pm
It really is getting annoying, CrackBerry: please do some thing about this guy!!
npunk42 Aug 16, 2010 at 3:03 pm
Who has time to install all these updates, of the SAME OS, on the SAME PHONE? Its getting a bit weird, like meeting a girl you've been dreaming about for a while, then she wont leave you alone for a minute. Calling every time she breaks a fingernail.
reverepats Aug 16, 2010 at 3:04 pm
u said it.......i mean con LOL......i'm just laughing about all this now HAHA.....unbelievable
bigmo164 Aug 16, 2010 at 3:05 pm
RIM can't get it right the first time, so they use current customers at beta testers!!!! After they report the shortcomings of the OS in forums, they fix that problem then put out a New OS.....
Let RIM master OS 6 on their so called "flagship" device before they start screwing with our BOLDS..
eahinrichsen Aug 16, 2010 at 3:08 pm
Who else should be used as beta testers?
Snipes Aug 16, 2010 at 3:10 pm
I'd like to try this... Th OS on the torch is nice but it could be a bit better.
celinelasvegas Aug 16, 2010 at 3:10 pm
Can I install this via my Torch or do I have to download online via computer?
bigalryder Aug 16, 2010 at 3:41 pm
It needs to be downloaded and installed from your computer. The OTA Update will only pick up official releases.
batrad Aug 16, 2010 at 3:20 pm
i'll pass...
just got activating all the apps on the device..
pain to do it again so soon..
Connor83 Aug 16, 2010 at 4:37 pm
I thought that app world 2.0 fixed that. Or at least made it much easier.
bighap Aug 17, 2010 at 1:26 am
Smart users don't get their apps from crap world.
jc Aug 16, 2010 at 3:26 pm
I am just going to wait until an official upgrade is released.
AgentScribe Aug 17, 2010 at 3:14 pm
+1
Illuminated_A Aug 16, 2010 at 3:37 pm
Had to read it twice to make sure....was hoping it was 9700 :-(
hammer_gaidin Aug 16, 2010 at 3:38 pm
I THINK IT'S GONE! After one call I didn't hear it. I had it badly on every call before. Hopefully this takes care of it!
ENJOY
bigalryder Aug 16, 2010 at 3:48 pm
The download is quite a bit larger than the released version. I wonder what changes are in the leak?
Dante-Ken Aug 16, 2010 at 3:58 pm
Nothing new.
I realized after many leaked OS' of other BlackBerries, nothing gets improved. This update does nothing to improve the slow responsiveness of swiping left and right on the homescreen, and other touchscreen glitches. It is likely that no matter how many leaked OS' there are, nothing will improve the device, nor add any new features. Will any of these leaks make the social feeds sync with Google Reader? Not likely. The YouTube "app" will still only be a link to the mobile website, not its own app.
With all the leaks for the Bold 9700, what was changed? Nothing. What was improved? Boot time? Sure, until you install your apps and restore all of your data again. Then the boot time is back to 5 or more agonizing minutes.
Installing these leaks is a waste of time. Nothing changes other than the version number. No visual changes, no improvements to the software, nothing at all. Plus, with each leak, all of your apps and app settings are deleted. So could someone tell me, what is the point of it all?
nereuszeer Aug 16, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Did you even install it? Does it fix the "clear downloads", maybe saved searches? Low battery indicator? Could be any number of things...
gregorylkelly Aug 16, 2010 at 5:19 pm
Seriously, what is wrong with this joker? First of all, these are leaks, RIM isn't officially releasing it because in some cases it isn't ready for prime time. They release an official OS and if there are bugs (which every OS has) then RIM goes back to work fixing them. When they think they have them all worked out, they will release their fixes to the carriers and have the carriers test the OS.
When you get a leak, it is from the Carrier testing stage. If its good enough, it will be officially released, but if it is still bugged, it will be sent back and they will wait for a newer build.
I don't know about Android, but I know the iPhone has a similar process. They are on iOS4 beta 3 right now (i think).
Please, learn a little about what you are talking about before you post a message to the world showing your ignorance. Thank you.
MecTruck Aug 16, 2010 at 8:55 pm
WOW!
Dante-Ken Aug 16, 2010 at 6:14 pm
Yeah, I installed it.
jeffreii Aug 16, 2010 at 4:12 pm
Nothing gets improved in OS updates? It sounds like you're relatively new to this.
Sure some OS leaks are very minor and hardly any different but over the last two years of updating my 9000 there have been some significant bug fixes and feature additions in some of the leaks.
Dante-Ken Aug 16, 2010 at 6:26 pm
No, not new.
I guess it's important to have the latest version of anything, even if in this case doesn't do much of anything.
MILLYBLICK Aug 16, 2010 at 4:14 pm
... Looks like you need a Driod or iPhone 4.
BBThemes Aug 16, 2010 at 5:16 pm
think about it, apple released iOS4.0 then 4.0.1, theres no difference, then these google updates do nothing either, must be one of the few on cb that doesnt want an OS update lol
Dante-Ken Aug 16, 2010 at 6:14 pm
There are improvements made with Googles updates to Android. For example, with the introduction of the JIT compiler Android 2.2, which improves the performance of the phone significantly (with benchmarks to prove how much). Also, with voice commands and additions to Google Maps and navigation, it is obvious that updates to Android are worth it. Not like these BB leaks, where one leak isn't good, then the next is, then the next one isn't all the while doing absolutely nothing to the performance of the phone or native apps.
jeffreii Aug 16, 2010 at 6:56 pm
You have no clue what you're talking about.
You are comparing apples to oranges.
The Android 2.2 update is a major update being offered publicly to several Android devices.
You are complaining about internal BB leaks that were not meant for the public and are not anything but BETA test builds that may or may not be good enough to be offered by carriers such as AT&T.
I have seen many leaks that are the same or even worse than earlier versions.
I have also seen leaks that are significantly better, fix multiple bugs and add extra features.
If you want to dumb it down you can think of the 2.2 update as equivalent of BlackBerry releasing a 6.1 update...not going from 6.0.0.141 to 6.0.0.161.
Connor83 Aug 16, 2010 at 4:42 pm
I love new updates. I have seen bug fixes and improvement. Maybe you just need to use your phone more to notice.
pattste Aug 16, 2010 at 7:15 pm
So you think they release a new version but only change the version number and the code is the same? Are you for real?
Dante-Ken Aug 16, 2010 at 7:45 pm
So what have you noticed new with this leak?
Marc_Paradise Aug 16, 2010 at 11:02 pm
I've seen folks mention this sluggishness, but I haven't seen it. Where is it specifically?
The closest I have seen is when you swipe slowly up and down, the bar "catches" at certain points on the screen -- and this seems to be by design.
As far as 9700 leaks: battery life was improved as well as memory usage. Those are good enough reasons for me ;)
Five50What Aug 16, 2010 at 4:03 pm
Leaky
peVas Aug 16, 2010 at 4:01 pm
Another 9800 leak, bring us a 9700 leak insted, I seen Leak: OS6 and thought it was ready for us! Got all excited lol
MILLYBLICK Aug 16, 2010 at 4:11 pm
Man i keep coming back to these blogs... which is good by the way because i spread the information. But where is OS 6 for bold 9700?? Its frustrating to see OS 6 on any headline and noticing its not for the 9700.
LyndellKell Aug 16, 2010 at 4:15 pm
Its getting kinda old I thought there was a leak before how bout a 9700 leak that's news
dean_fx Aug 16, 2010 at 4:24 pm
Good lord, forget the torch leaks! they already got OS6...get to gettin your hands on a 9700 os6 leak or at least for other devices!
mrtijuana Aug 16, 2010 at 5:05 pm
I just remember when I first got my 9700 and t leaks of 5 where running like tacos calientes!I see a lotta 9000 owners and others devices asking for their leaks of 5...now I'm on the same boat, where's the 9700 OS6 leak???!
Griffspen Aug 16, 2010 at 5:20 pm
Can I use this leak to defeat tyranny and free the oppressed? If not, then BB's suck. ;)
sabbotage Aug 16, 2010 at 5:42 pm
I see it has facebook version 1.8.0.47. Maybe ill see if it'll load on my bold :)
PhishShticks Aug 16, 2010 at 8:51 pm
I have the 1.8 beta running on my 9650. Still buggy, and still not syncing with my contacts... what else is new...
thefelixx Aug 16, 2010 at 9:32 pm
This update is taking forever. So far 90mins in.
Tat2ron Aug 16, 2010 at 9:37 pm
sticking with my iphone get it together blackberry or get out of the phone biz !!
radlink14 Aug 16, 2010 at 9:39 pm
Get a life, clearly you have too much free time on your hands. Why spend your precious time to go to a website dedicated to a phone that you want to bash... sheesh
isteal Aug 16, 2010 at 9:43 pm
What is the point of this comment? It doesn't seem to be relevant to anything in this thread. If u are happy with your iphone, then it doesn't really seem like crackberry would be a site of interest to you.
iPablo Aug 16, 2010 at 10:02 pm
Hey guys! I'm giving away a free BlackBerry unlock code, ANY model and carrier! Just go here: http://bit.ly/9qO2Gn, and the winner will be contacted with instructions :)
xattica Aug 16, 2010 at 10:12 pm
Confirmed! The tin sound that is there during calls is gone. At least on mine...
Konaver Aug 16, 2010 at 10:24 pm
Does anyone know when this would become official for att if it would?
jdoggfoelife Aug 16, 2010 at 10:42 pm
Yeah the 9700 isn't the "newest" device but that is the thing I hate so much about Blackberry and why RIM will always make money off of people. They bring out a device and then discontinue it only after about a year. I love my 9700 and am awaiting OS6 on my Bold and if it never comes then tough luck RIM because I'm not about to spend a fortune on a device just to get a new OS. I will keep my 9700 for work, but I am about to ride the HTC train...why? Because they release the same update for ALL of their devices at the same time!
RIM, I love you but I also hate you!
jhrain Aug 17, 2010 at 12:19 am
So far, the O/S doesn't seem to be any different. But, I've noticed that I have not lost connection to my enterprise server. Something I noticed frequently on .141.
I would sometimes have to switch to Wi-Fi to trigger an enterprise server connection. I could turn Wi-Fi off, but my ES connection would vanish again.
I did notice FB seems faster, but that might be my imagination. All in all, seems fine so far.
ench18 Aug 17, 2010 at 12:25 am
Can someone please BAN this JOKER who's putting up these signs about shoes and clothes! This is a forum for BLACKBERRY etc. NOT FAKE and unwanted crap! Just my 2 cents folks.
Tory75120 Aug 17, 2010 at 12:29 am
I know it has to be better than any phone I've ever seen.
BoldtotheMax Aug 17, 2010 at 12:35 am
Where is our 9700 OS leak...granted I am still skeptical it won't run well on it. :( Still gonna give it a go...
AnuKidd Aug 17, 2010 at 12:54 am

badboy337 Aug 17, 2010 at 2:32 am
Ok, you're the only one hatin here. You logged on and registered on a Blackberry dedicated site just to say your iPhone is better...that's dumb as hell. Obviously, you're a troll, considering your misuse of "too", mispelling "lossers" and general bad grammar.
SAVAGE5 Aug 20, 2010 at 12:57 pm
What a moron. Haha. iPhone is a different phone. It's entertainment. Maybe if you had a Blackberry you could spell better.
tarek307 Aug 22, 2010 at 9:43 am
Classic man, great answer to that 16 year old kid who likes playing with his final fantacy app on his iphone
katiepea Aug 17, 2010 at 1:56 am

nwbmonkey Aug 19, 2010 at 9:40 pm
One problem, there's a fat sticker on every box that says $35 restocking fee. I know, you're still getting back more but at least for me it's not worth the hassle....
badboy337 Aug 17, 2010 at 2:25 am
Only took about 20 to install on mine. (Not including download and install of package on the computer.) The tinny sound while talking is fixed! It reset all my menus and I'm forced to sign in again on FB and Twitter. It does auto suggest your email when you type in your email into FB and Twitter...not sure if it did that before, but it's pretty convenient. I was having an issue where the data would take like 5 mins to come back on after I reboot my phone. That seems to be gone now as data came right up after the reboot. The phone seems a bit snappier...but it could be that it's the first time I've rebooted in a few days. I don't think it broke anything...so I recommend this update.
For those on the 9700 clamoring for the new OS, I think it would a bit of a pain to navigate on (without the touch screen) and not sure how it will perform. I have a feeling you guys may be a bit disappointed in the end.
bigalryder Aug 17, 2010 at 9:09 am
I actually use my 9800 without using the touchscreen that much (old habits are hard to break!) and it's really not that bad. I think with proper implementation by RIM (cross your fingers) OS 6 will be pretty good on a non-touchscreen BlackBerry.
zr123 Aug 17, 2010 at 12:09 pm
This seems to have fixed an issue that I was having while trying to sync my contacts using my MacBook Pro. I can now successfully sync (both ways)... With the original firmware, I had nothing but problems trying to use BB Desktop Manager on my Mac. So far so good... Just too bad I can't update the software using my Mac, I have to use a Windows based PC (boo!).
neon415 Aug 17, 2010 at 3:39 pm
My biggest concern now is the buzzy echo we hear when we talk on the Torch, so does this leaked OS fix that????
anoxia187 Aug 17, 2010 at 6:57 pm
the following new link is : http://depositfiles.com/en/files/jvisij407
