Well, CES 2010 is all wrapped up and we are just over halfway through January. My, how time flies. In the wake of CES, we've got lots of good stuff for you this week. Covered in this mid-January edition of the BlackBerry App Roundup are the following titles:

Freebies of the Week: Free Juicy Berry, Family Feud Demo

In Case You Missed It: PocketDay Updated to Version 6, Engadget App for BlackBerry, Viper SmartStart, Legend Viewer Looking for Beta Testers

New This Week: Medical Calculator, BusBerry, WiFiPower, Memory Monster, Auto Call Log

Cool at BlackBerry App World: Blood Sugar Diary

Note: Don't forget, you can always search for titles featured in the App Roundup within App World... Some apps mentioned may be available there for your device.

Freebies of the Week:

Free Juicy Berry

Free Juicy Berry

Free Juicy Berry is a small app that contains a memory management tool, video flashlight, voicemail shortcut, message composition shortcuts, and more. Nothing major here for sure, but you might want to give it a look for yourself. All that is required here is OS 4.2.1 or newer. It's compatible with all current model BlackBerry devices, including the Storm series. For all the details, check it out in our store.

Family Feud Demo

Family Feud for BlackBerry

One of the most classic game shows out there, 'Family Feud' is available now in App World. While the full version will run you $6.99, a demo version with limited features is available. Sadly, the likeness of Richard Dawson isn't used in the game... But if you get out of this one-of-a-kind gameshow, the demo is worth a spin.

SURVEY SAYS: Try it out!

In Case You Missed It...

Just in case you missed these titles, below are some apps that were covered in the CrackBerry Blogs this past week. Check 'em out!

PocketDay Updated to Version 6

PocketDay Updated to Version 6

The folks at Cross River Systems dropped us a note earlier this week to let us know that version 6 of PocketDay is now available. New features include:

  • AccuWeather.com (current conditions, 7 day forecast, hour by hour, radar (animated), satellite, Storm Warnings)
  • Custom Backgrounds (wallpapers, pictures, etc.)
  • New lower pricing ($25 for PocketDay pro)

If you've never heard or PocketDay before, it's basically a complete Today Screen for your Berry that lets you access your calendar, tasks, memos, weather, financial info, news, even your Twitter account... all with ease. For more information hit up PocketDay.com.

Engadget App for BlackBerry

Engadget App for BlackBerry

If you enjoy tech news as much as the other guy, Engadget has long been a great place to go to get your daily dose. Already having launched a webOS and iPhone mobile app, I had wondered when a version would be available for BlackBerry. Thankfully, earlier this week that's just what happened... A new version for BlackBerry has been released, and you can use it to get your fill of everything tech.

Viper SmartStart

Viper SmartStart for BlackBerry

How cool is this. Want to lock or unlock your doors, pop your trunk, or sound your car alarm, all from your BlackBerry? You'll be able to do all this and more, thanks to the Viper SmartStart App, coming soon to App World. The app is already available for iPhone, and honestly, it looks great. The app itself will be free for BlackBerry, but the hardware required will set you back more than $300. Following your first year of service you'll also need to fork over $30 per year, but chances are once you get hooked on this one, you'll gladly pay the fee.

For more information check out the Viper website >

Legend Viewer Looking for Beta Testers

Legend Viewer Looking for Beta Testers

Earlier in the week, developer Kenny Ho from Dynamic Legend contacted us in need of some help. His new app 'Legend Viewer' is a location-based clipboard that allows users to create a 'legend' of sorts on the web, and then bring that information along with them on their Berry. Kenny gives a better description:

My app is called Legend Viewer and here's a quick summary of what it does.  It is a time- and location-based mobile clipboard that lets people bring their information with them on their smartphone and access it based on their contexts.  User can create a Legend (like a legend on a map) on their computer over the web and bring it with them on their BlackBerry.

You can think of this as a much simpler version of Evernote but with a map.  Or you can think of this as a DIY local search.  (There are some excellent local search database out there but it will never have the information about my cousin's wedding or information about my friend's party.)

To try Legend Viewer out for yourself, hit up dynamiclegend.com/load/legendviewer from your Berry's browser. For more information, visit dynamiclegend.com. Be sure to let Kenny and the team over at Dynamic Legend if you encounter any issues or bugs with the app.

New This Week

Medical Calculator

Medical Calculator

Medical students, doctors, nurses and surgeons may be interested in this one. The Medical Calculator gives you quick access to complicated medical formulas. The number of formulas available in quite extensive, plus, you can even add your own. To run, you'll need OS 4.5 or newer on any non-touchscreen BlackBerry.

Check out the Medical Calculator right here >

BusBerry

BusBerry

This one goes out to all of the Chicago area BlackBerry users. From 4(oh)6 Designs, BusBerry uses the Chicago Transit Authority's Bus Tracker system to give you quick and immediate access to bus schedules. Plus, you can easily track the status of CTA buses, save frequently-used bus stops, display single or multiple routes, and even map bus stops on a Google Map.

For more information check out BusBerry in our store >

WiFiPower

WiFiPower

From Toysoft Development, WiFiPower allows you to schedule on and off times for WiFi during the day. Use it to conserve your battery by ensuring WiFi is off during times when you don't need it. The app allows you to schedule WiFi settings up to 64 different times throughout the day. Set it to turn WiFi on in the morning, and off when you leave the office... Or whatever fits your schedule.

You can pick up WiFiPower for $1.99 >

Memory Monster

Memory Monster

Memory issues on your Berry? Try out Memory Monster. Eliminate delays, optimize your resources, and get back up and running at top speed. Memory Monster features memory cleaning features, log erasers, detailed meters, plus many convenient shortcuts. As you can see from the screenshot above, the app is quite detailed, and gives you all of the tools you need to get the most out of your Berry.

Auto Call Log

Auto Call Log

Auto Call Log provides automated reports for all phone, email and SMS activity. If you've ever wanted to know how much time you spend on your Berry, or perhaps you need to charge clients for time on the phone or punching out emails... Auto Call Log can help. The app can also output daily or weekly reports, and many other settings are included to help you get the most out of the app. OS 4.3 or greater is required, and it should run just fine on all BlackBerry devices, including the Storm series.

Check out Auto Call Log in our store >

Cool at BlackBerry App World:

Blood Sugar Diary

Blood Sugar Diary

This week I thought I'd touch on a Health and Wellness app that could really benefit a lot of folks out there... Built specifically for those suffering from Diabetes, the Blood Sugar Diary from EFRAC is designed to help you manage the condition. Enter blood glucose readings as often as you like, and the app will display charts and a history of entered values. You can even enter readings before a meal, and then after a meal, and the app will display a chart with two different lines for easy comparison. All charts can be exported to the pictures folder, or you can export the readings to a CSV.

For more information, check out the Blood Sugar Diary app in App World. To purchase you'll need to lay down $7.99.

Until Next Week..

BlackBerry App Roundup for January 15th, 2010!

google mobile app should be added there new search is wow! Works great. I download all the trial versions of your recommendations and always buy what is useful for me. Tether is the best so far.

People with diabetes don't "suffer from" it, we "live with" it.

That app looks decent, but $7.99 is too steep for something that I don't know will fill my needs. HandyLogs has a blood sugar log that's free and gets backed up to their online website - which comes in handy because I can print it and take it to my doctor. If Blood Sugar Diary had a free trial, I'd love to try it out, and maybe purchase it after trying it.
