Today we celebrate the launch of the BlackBerry Storm2. So in true CrackBerry fashion, it's only right that we give you a glimpse of another upcoming BlackBerry Smartphone...

The BlackBerry Tour2, codenamed BlackBerry "essex" in its pre-release development, is essentially the BlackBerry Tour with two major updates: WiFi and the optical trackpad. Arguably these should have been included back on the original BlackBerry Tour, but we think simply due to the timing lacked both (Tour was finalized for production before trackpad was slated to get introduced, and before VZW went from not wanting WiFi to wanting it). The BlackBerry Tour2 (device model 9650 I would logically assume) packs both of these into the Tour's standard form factor and hardware. All other specs/features between the two devices appear to be identical at first look, with the exception that the green call key is now flipped -- as we've seen with other new devices -- and the bottom row of keys on the keyboard are slightly less tall, more akin to the Bold 9700. The hardware in this video is the Sprint version, but obviously there will be a Verizon version too with a slightly different look.

We originally were told the release date for the BlackBerry Tour2 would be sometime in late January/February of 2010, but are now hearing production of these is ramping up literally as you read this. I think both RIM and Verizon would like to get the BlackBerry Tour2 into retail channels in time for the holidays and to get it on Verizon's latest BOGO offering before it comes to an end. Keep your fingers crossed. You might not see it until the new year, but what a present it would be if it was here for Christmas!

They should give us tour owners a free upgrade to that.

Julran

The car dealer should give me a new car since they now come with XM radio. I just got mine last year. (see how dumb that sounds??) Your statement sounds just as dumb. LOL

jetman1287

The car market is much different, and in buying a car you know every year a new model will be released.

As a new phone owner you should expect the technology would be outdated eventually, but Verizon is doing this too quickly and too in-your-face for my liking. If they knew this device was on the way why even bother releasing the Tour? It just sticks it to anyone who bought the first device.

And it's not even remodeled...just Wi-Fi and a trackpad, some features the original phone should have had.

So while technically it's okay for them to do, as a phone owner I will have to think more about A) sticking with VZW, and B) if it's ever worth buying a new phone without completely understanding the future trends. VZW told everyone how great the Tour was and then just a couple months later crapped on it. Not too great an image =\

GameBoi

well too bad, we all knew there will always be a new and better device in matter of months. I don't see iphone users crying about the iphone 3gs.So grow up or next time wait and see what co. are gonna do next instead of rushing for whats new. I always wait and read review form pros and customers to make sure I wont be crying like you tour/storm users.

jetman1287

Apple did not have a new iPhone ready to go 2 months after releasing 3GS...

steph3886

first of all i would like to say that i am appalled at all the hostility that is going on with people posting their problems about their phones.you all are just RUDE.i only got through the first page before i decided to comment because i am livid about the trash these sarcastic people are posting to others a bout "crying" and what not.look i understand what this person was saying.i am a tour owner and although i do not like the trackball i deal with it cuz overall this is the best phone i have had and i have had every phone verizon has to offer.before i chose blackberry i had all the LG phones and whatever else.my first blackberry was the storm when it first came out,and it shut down on me all the time.when i was texting and pressed the alt button it would instantly reboot itslf.it happened at least 3 to 4 times a day, after 3 of those phones i went with the blackberry curve in pink which i loves.then the tour came out and i took a chance with it an have no complaints.at all.although i dont NEED a trackpad or wifi,i do wish they would have held out on releasing the phone before they added those nice enhancements.so while u are bashing this person for expressing they way they feel about the phone,u all need to shut the hell up honestly because its rude and unnecessary.they are right to be upset about a sequel to this phone so soon.but as for free? that is unrealistic and while i do not want to pay full price for the phone i have a good phone where i know u can wait until my discount so that by the time i can get the tour 2 it will be in tip top condition and probably the replacement to everyones curve 8330.but please, the mean things you guys are saying have to stop, cuz its definitely rude and i think u all need to learn a little bit more about "net etiquette" and if you dont know what it is....

google it.

Julran

I see the analogy past you so I will break it down a little more for you. New things come out on the regular (phones, cars, computers etc) you have probably already done your research before it came out and have decided that was what you wanted so you purchased it. The maker of the product has a job to came coming out with newer and better than what they did before. Nobody forced you to go buy what you got. If you got a Tour it was because you did your research and thought that was a good choice for you. If not maybe you bought it just cause it was new and wanted to be the one with the newest phone. if thats the case don't complain. Being flashy cost. If you wanna have the newest phone everytime one comes out thats cool, just go ahead and buy at at the full retail price. There is no in between for ballers. You have it or you don't. Don't buy something then when the new one comes out you talking bout how the company shouldn't have came out with it so soon or now something is wrong with the one you got. lol. Most of the time thats user error. All these people went and got the storm 1 and were having so many problems. I got it and didn't have any problems and know more people that got it and had no problems but I guess we got the only ones that worked huh? LOL

TMFoughty

I'm on my 5th replacement Tour because of the trackball problems. The last 3 have been "green dot" Tours. So, yes, VZW or RIM should replace the phone with the upgraded phone. It's called the LEMON LAW. If you buy a new car that has the SAME problem more than 3 times, you get your money back or a new car or whatever.

I want what was advertised to me. Having to replace the phone every 3-4 weeks just doesn't cut it. It's to the point where some of the applications that I bought will not give me anymore registration codes because I've used them all up and would need to purchase a new copy of the application (Mileage Meter). How is this my fault?? Explain that to me smartguy...

Quiet_Before_The_Storm

People are hilarious when they do that same silly car analogy. The point many people are making is that they put out a phone that has faults. I'm going on my 3rd Tour (waiting for another replacement) because the trackball is garbage making it difficult to edit emails and I use it for business. Instead of fixing the problems on our phone, they just put another phone out months later and expect us to pay full retail for it. That is garbage.

If I purchased a new car and it was faulty, I expect another car that works fine or a comparable model, not a lemon.

yacoby54

So you know what logical people do? they wait until people like you go out and buy the phone and find that it is not worth spending $200 on. If you want to be the first one in line for a new device or any technology for that matter, then you have to expect you are not going to be happy.
I thought about getting the Tour right away and then I thought, hey what happened with the Storm? Hmmmm, doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

Julran

People are hilarious when they get something and don't start crying about something is wrong with it until they hear about a new model coming out. You had a period of 30days to return your phone right? So if there was a problem with the trackball why not take it back and get a different model then?? 3rd Tour huh? Could be user error. I no somebody with a tour and they just bought it to say thy have a blackberry. have no idea how to adjust anything on it or nothing. Maybe this is a similar case with you

Dusteater

I agree. I bought a Tour and it has been the WORST phone I have ever owned in my life. I have been a Blackberry user for over 5 years and was shocked when I got my Tour.

Three Tours later and I have just got a working device now this month. So... yes, they should give us this for free as compensation. If I don't get it for free, I will not be buying another Blackberry again.

Releasing the Tour 2 so soon after the Tour came out is an admission that the Tour was a failure. RIM needs to be really come out with this and recall the original. But of course they won't.

RIM has lost my business.

darko m

If your Tour is so bad and you've replaced it so many times maybe you should have returned it within the first 30 days. Or maybe the next replacement you get you throw on eBay and sell it as a new refurb. You losers are all the same...you're basically too broke to buy the Tour 2 so you want a carrier to give it to you for free. Get a life.

dvdowns

(i think this is where we petition crackberry to put a "Like" button on forum comments)

AZNbberry

sorry joined the party late, but you hit it right on the nail. Been in the tech and communication industry 10+ years and I would say 99% of the time it's user error. Or someone getting a phone too complicated for them to use :-)

billm85

yes they should since we wont have to put up with the track ball

BLACK-berry-MAMBA

maybe they should, but i doubt that they would. would be nicce though. I've never had wi-fi, and dont really have a need for it, but it would be a nice addition

realjag

They are just rubbing my nose in the fact that I paid good money for the Tour a little over a month ago. Gee I hope this thing at least has an official 5.0 OS.

yacoby54

They are not rubbing your nose in anything, if you visit this site at all you would have known over a month ago that there was going to be another version of the Tour with a trackpad coming out. You still made the choice to buy and keep that Tour. Stop whining like a little girl.

Blechtman

would I be better off getting this or the curve 8530? argh! too many choices!

codemaker

The 8530/curve2 and the tour2 have similar feature sets, but the tour2 has a better camera and a better screen. The tour2 also has GSM world roaming capabilities, but that may not matter to you as much as the other features. You could potentially save money with the curve2, but when comparing the total cost of owning both devices over two years, you only save about $150[1]. I find the additional features offered on the tour2 worth more than that personally.

[1] That $150 estimate is assuming a price tag of $50 for the curve2 and $200 for the tour2.

Eriksatx

I am a bit confused why would they release the 1st Tour and not even 6 months later release the Tour2. I just got my tour like 2 monthes ago and I love it, I haven't had any problems with it thus far.

-Erik

Brockmant

And STORM users thought we had it bad with a 1 year release of the Storm 2.

AngryChineseDriver

Let me get this straight: The Tour2 is essentially a CDMA Bold2?

codemaker

Sure. That is an accurate enough comparison for most purposes.

AngryChineseDriver

Okay I see. So the rumours of a CDMA 9700, that can't be true?

10UHC

I do not see what is worth while on this.... get a new tour just for the trackpad? (Sprints data coverage is good enough without wifi).

codemaker

The bottom row on the keyboard is different on the essex.

Kevin Michaluk

TRUE! didn't even notice. haha. will update post.

llSPENCERll

I better be able to upgrade to this after paying full retail for my Tour!

big dawg 23

When paying full retail you do not extend your contract. Check your my Verizon to see when your NE2 is available. I went from Storm 1 to Tour after multiple defects. They offered me retail and my NE2 date would'nt change or extend. Coming this soon does irritate me a little.

jzamorski

So they are producing this phone without even giving us an official OS 5 for the original tour? This is worse than that Storm crap. They should make the verizon/sprint tech guys certified to install wifi onto the original tours. I can't upgrade my phone to a newer OS til its official, hopefully thats just around the corner for some threaded sms. Boy to texts with the girlfriend clog up the inbox.

codemaker

5.0 for the tour is coming. Patience.

oliv2915

I bet the 5.0 will be released a few days before the Tour2 is. Just like the Storm 5.0

the one and only M

i wish it had the updated look of the 9700 and storm 2.

NastyNeil

Would they let us just upgrade? Has that ever been done before? I think we will probably be SOL. Just my opinion though. I would upgrade if given the option, but I HIGHLY doubt it.

mikelab26

this seems like a pretty raw deal, as well as a complete money grab on RIM's part. is there any precedent for people like us who bought the tour to upgrade to the tour 2 when it is released without having to pay full retail value for it?

BBMaverick

Which is better for navigating the BlackBerry?

Also, is the Tour2 coming to Verizon?

codemaker

The consensus is that the trackpad is the better option. Read the article. A verizon version is expected.

Detective M Downs

I hope they change the battery door.

tdrus1

I don't care so much about wifi, but i'll sure as hell be slapping this keypad onto my tour when it hits the channels...

BoscoBerry24

Pissed on so many levels! If this phone is released before OS 5.0 for my Tour 1 I will be leaving VZW for a Bold 9700!

coltsbr

I want one!!!!!!! or two............. lol

jorGeorge

How in the hell are they going to sell this? TO WHO? Most people have already jumped on the Tour 1. This makes no sense to me. Very frustrating. Moto Droid is tempting.

codemaker

I have been waiting for this device. Plus I am not eligible for an upgrade until next year. I am sure there are others like me. Droid is tempting though. Not for me personally (im not switching from sprint). But the feature set and specs are impressive. I am not too hot on the form factor though.

cowboys2000

Those of us who purchased a Curve 8330 in 2008 ready to upgrade. Everyone is on different discounted upgrade schedules. Thus, the reason why new phones come out every few months. You get the best device (for you) that is available.

serpico

Perfect, I'll upgrade as soon as this is out. Just for that trackpad and wifi no doubt. Forget the Bold.

t-woody

never buy the 1st model of anything!! First the storm and now this. i can't measure my level of pissed-offness right now.

greens601

They produce a defective product, once again i need to send my tour back because of the friging trackball and I find out that they are releasing pratically the same phone with the issues that the first one had resolved (i could careless about the wifi). Verizon and RIM can kiss my ass. I love my tour, but only so many times they can fuck me over.

jlb21

While I would love it if VZM did a free upgrade, I know it would never happen and I would never expect it to happen. I would like the trackpad and wi-fi, but I am fine without it. No deal breaker there. If it were, I would not have biught my Tour when I did and I would have waited.

antlers1123

I'm confused on what the differences between the bold 2 9700 and tour 2 will be? Both seem to have the wifi and trackpad and have very similar asthetics other then the bold 2 having the 'leather' backing. The only difference I can think of is the fash memory. I know the tour 9630 comes with 128 mb so maybe they'll keep the memory at 128 while the bold 2 has 256. Not sure tho. Seems like these devices are going to be pretty similar and redundant.

codemaker

The tour has 256 mb of app memory just like the tour2. Despite them being quite similar, the bold2 and tour2 are different devices inside. They have different processors and different radio components. They also have different batteries. Other parts may also be different, but those are the main differences.

Feature wise, the bold2 and tour2 are almost exactly the same. The bold2 can do simultaneous voice and data over 3G and also has more advanced conferencing and call control features, but this is a result of the GSM network, not really the bold2 as a device. On the other hand, the tour2 will support CDMA which gives it a very slight advantage when roaming world wide.

The devices are redundant, but there is a good reason for this. The bold2 is a GSM device and the tour2 is a CDMA device. In theory, RIM could have made the devices look similar like with the curve series, but even with the curve series of devices, the CDMA curve is a different device than the GSM curves.

The only place I could see this redundancy being a problem is on the canadian carriers who are currently switching over to GSM networks from CDMA (telus and bell). In theory they could carry the bold2 and the tour2, but they will probably only stock the bold2.

shimojunk

As I stated before, RIM needs to stop making so many different models of Blackberrys and streamline their efforts into 2 solid products, not a million models. They are releasing too many models with too many different variations. A business model and a consumer model would be ideal.

You have to have to have passed Crackberry 401 (the advanced course) in order to figure out which blackberry suits your needs. The average Joe Schmoe is probably scratching their heads with too many BB models available, and going to buy the iPhone since the decision on which model is already made for them.

cepler

Look at Garmin for product model confusion madness, maybe RIM is going to head that way...

28 CURRENT MODEL GPS's just for their On the Road, Automotive category alone. That's not including the MANY previous models that were 'retired' not so long after release... It's ridiculous.

codemaker

I agree, that RIM has too many models, but 2 models is not enough. And really, on each carrier RIM usually only has 4 models. Apple has several models as well, they have the 32gb and 64gb models of the iphone 3gs, then they have the 8gb iphone 3g. Not only that, maybe apple does not have enough different models. Why do people buy a cheap flip phone over an iphone? Perhaps apple (or RIM) does not have a model for them. Maybe apple needs a model for people who want a hardware keyboard.

You can't expect one or two models to fill everyone's needs.

jayhammy

I agree, but there's no 64gb iPhone just yet.

codemaker

Ahh you are right. I was thinking of the 16gb and 32gb models.

snype09

Gotta have at least 3 models, Maybe even 4, but i agree, way too many as is.
Model #1 Business model - Bold 9700
Model #2 Techie model - Storm 9550
Model #3 Consumer model - Pearl
Optional #4 Blackberry-lite model - Curve 8530
Still would have to be a CDMA and GSM version of each, but the model name can stay the same (like the curve)

codemaker

Isn't that what they have now? Just add in the perl flip and you have verizon's lineup. They still have the older devices listed on their website, but I'm not sure they have those on display in stores anymore.

GG1

Lesson learned ! Wait at least 6 months before buying a new model phone. This is my first and last time.

codemaker

LOL, well you might be waiting a long time at the rate RIM has been releasing new phones (rumor is 16 new phones in 2010).

codemaker

LOL, well you might be waiting a long time at the rate RIM has been releasing new phones (rumor is 16 new phones in 2010).

GG1

Seriously, i like my Tour, it stings a little that the Tour2 is coming out so soon but i'll get over it

asdfjkandreax

completely agree. this feels wrong, even though i do love my tour (no issues, apparently i got lucky)

LewisCBR

I know a guy who bought the Storm then ditched it for the Tour first release. He is getting screwed on both models.

At least the storm2 is more powerful and different under the hood. The Tour2 is the SAME STUPID THING, but fixes the trackball... I wouldnt be upset if it was slightly more powerful or something to make it a different phone altogether.

And F you verizon for giving me a hard time trying to return my Tour. I still havnt got it replaced because customer service on the phone wants me to take it into a store and i cant find time to do that (city dweller with no car). So frustrating.

jorGeorge

So will the Tour 1 be discontinued? Even after only half a year of shelf time? If not, who in the world would buy the Tour 1? This makes no sense. Seems like RIM is abandoning the Tour 1.

Plazmic Flame

If you bought the first Tour, you've now been officially shafted!

How could they not wait to release this version of the Tour? This is worst than the Storm 1 and Storm 2 scenario. I hope all the Tour owners give RIM and Telus/Bell/Verizon hell.

mousky

Exactly how have I been shafted? Was I forced to purchase my Tour? I bought my Tour because it satisfied my needs and wants. I was able to add a cheap unlimited data plan, so the lack of wifi was not a major issue.

If people wanted wifi they could have waited or they could have chosen another Blackberry or a competing product.

cvaria

shut up. be happy with your raping, quietly. i'm not gonna! this beef is going straight to twitter. they know the 9630 was a horrible unit. i suggest everyone else who is pissed do the same to @sprint and @BlackBerry if there is no peaceable remedy offered at launch.

samuels1289

Just got my Tour last Friday and am now pissed off. I want free upgrade, Sprint!

codemaker

You are still with in your 30 day return period. Take it back and wait for the tour2.

hbot

I'm no spoiled idiot who blindly thinks I deserve free stuff for no reason, BUT

considering the Tour is under 6 months old AND has had SO many problems (particularly with the trackball), I really don't think it is that unreasonable to want/expect/deserve a free upgrade to the Tour2.

There should be some sort of rule about the timing of releasing a model refresh, and if you release it before a certain amount of time, the early adopters should be rewarded.

This is BS. Me and my friend are both on our 3rd Tour, gimme a break RIM.

jorGeorge

Don't worry, once the tour2 is released I'm sure tons of current tour owners will call up Verizon and start harassing them to no end.

GameBoi

will y"all calm down, I'm sure if your tour have problems then this one will also. And if it don't then I'm sure it'll be cause of the new os(witch you all will get one too) And I'm also sure if you all track ball keep messing up, that they'll replace your old tour with a track pad tour cause they won 't be making any more tour1 to replace it(but I'm not sure, it is verizon) so stop being a baby.

bb2iphone

so i take it no updated camera for the Essex?

cvaria

class action suit needs to happen. that our we be given generous discounts if we decide to upgrade. how wrong is that? seriously wtf! rape! i'll just have to buy another and sell off my 9630.

ephesios

why would they update the tour before the curve 8900? is it pressure from verizon?

coltsbr

I keep hearing that the essex will have more on board memory. Is there any truth to this?????

ekyle125

I highly doubt they'll give a free upgrade. You might be able to extend your contract and do a MultiFRU to get one. Apple/AT&T didn't help the early adopters when the iPhone 3G came out. either. I was kind of hoping this would be out closer to July next year so it'd be fresh when I upgraded to it. :-/

codemaker

I have had enough of this "I deserve a free upgrade" nonsense. First things first, the tour is a great device, and this is not much of an upgrade over the tour. Now on to other matters. This device was known of before the tour was available for purchase. Now it had not been formally announced (and still hasn't) but the crackberry nation knew it existed and what features it would have.

Personally, with full knowledge of the impending arrival of the tour2, my wife and I purchased a tour for her to use. I do not expect sprint or RIM to offer my wife a free upgrade to the tour2. I see no reason for them to do it either.

If your tour(s) was/is defective, I feel sorry for you. But you deserve a new tour, not a free upgrade to the tour2. I am sure sprint and verizon could get some cool points for doing this though (and if I were them I would strongly consider it from a customer service stand point). Keep in mind, the problems people experienced with the tour, are not a problem with the tour in general, those were a defects in those specific devices.

If you purchased a tour and was unaware of the tour2/essex at the time, and would have waited, had you known about it, then that is unfortunate. I still don't think you deserve a free upgrade.

If you knew about the tour2/essex, and still decided to purchase a tour, I have absolutely no sympathy for you. I would appreciate it if you vented your frustration elsewhere. Your call though.

cvaria

don't launch into diatribes because you are cool with molestation, which this is, keep that bs to yourself

bbtour9630

You need to shut up. Stop spamming the comments. You signed a contract, like it or not. It's not RIM's fault, it's not Verizons fault, it's yours. Do you understand the concept of a contract?

If you think anyone on these comments or twitter people care what you have to say, you have bigger issues than a Tour 1.

Go back where you came from, troll.

Plus, no offense to everyone here, but there is NOTHING from Verizon about this phone, or anyone else for that matter. This is the only prototype anyone has ever seen.

The Storm 2 was leaked back in May (or around there) and it was released just last week. 5-6 months later. 4+6 months = 10 months would probably be the earliest you will see the device from the release date of Tour 1. So what is the big issue? Upset RIM hasn't halted phone development so your phone won't become obsolete??

To the whiners: One, don't sign a contract if you don't like them. And two, sell your Tour on eBay when the new one comes out for like $300 bucks and all of a sudden your upgrade doesn't seem so expensive. If you have brains, please use them -_-

mookish

ALL you storm and tour owners should have just gotten a BOLD and you wouldn't be crying. Even with the release of the Bold2 coming, us BOLD owners are not rushing to grab that because our original BOLD is so superior! Come over to the BOLD side lest you get shafted yet again!

Storm3 and Tour3 are prolly being tested right now suckers!

clexman

Before the Tour went on sale the carriers said that a wifi Tour was on the way. I bought a Tour the day it went on sale knowing this.

Quit your bitching and just be happy that RIM is updating phones so quickly!

The Fuzz 53

This fucking phone better not come out for at least another year or I will literally walk into the Verizon store and shit in the middle of it.

GG1

Just make sure you eat alot of beans before you do it.

PlayaX01

lol the fuzz i agree....RIM and blackberry are so full of shit...why would you screw out all us tour users who jus got the phone...its really unfair...why can be get wifi too?!...RIM jus pisses me off....AND WHERE THE HELL IS MY OS 5.0 ALREADY WTF ITS BEEN LIKE 2 YEARS!!

Mistik

looks sweet.. If it gets released @ xmass then this will be my new device when I move to the US in March

FRoStYisGoD

its a nice phone and all but ya its coming out way to fast and they should of just released this phone

berryg1

got my Tour 23 days ago. I guess I have a week to return it, no questions asked.

Tsudeily

Been waiting for any kind of news for this device. You've got me very excited!

Nubs

First of all, you people purchased a product. You were given at least 30 days to try out your product for a full refund and each and every one of you kept it. You agreed that what you paid for your product was fair. Now that they are releasing a new and better product you want them to give it to you at a discount? Where did this sense of entitlement come from?

Erkenntnis

that RIM can take a flying leap for all I care.

I'm not looking for a free upgrade to the Essex when it comes out. I paid money for the Tour and that's what I got. But frankly, to release a phone with so many problems, and then to fix those problems so quickly, reflects a very poor judgment and a lot of disorganization on RIM's part.

The Tour was supposed to be the new flagship BlackBerry for CDMA carriers. Now we see that it was essentially a stopgap measure, and early adopters who thought they would be getting the company's best effort are SOL. Thanks for all your diligence in getting your customers the best, RIM.

Whatever my next phone is, it won't be a BlackBerry.

McSaggler

What makes this different than the new Bold 9700, other than a different carrier.

McSaggler

Wait, nvm. lol, someone already explained it.

asdfjkandreax

i don't even know what to think. i don't really have any reason to be upset because i never had problems with my tour (trackball, screen ripple, batter door), but boy this is what the tour should've been! i would've waited an extra three or four months if this was the original "tour 1"
i knew this was coming, but i wouldn't be upset if it came out, say, july 2010.
but so soon after the first tour came out? it's like a slap in the face.

squire

We got the shaft on that one. I didn't think Sprint would EVER have a wi-fi berry...

mjs31

I will be ticked on this one. I love my Tour and really don't use wifi that much, but I did enjoy having the option with my brief Iphone try. 1 year later is a good time frame...anything less will really tick people off that bought the first generation

Get a life.

manimtim

they should of moved where you plug in the charger

moyjoy

If people feel they need get an upgrade they're entitled to feel that way. They have lives... are not necessarily broke and are not idiots. They are just people with opinions.

NOW! On to the real ish... am I the only one who doesn't like the trackpad? I used it on other bberrys and I prefer the trackball.

buckle.vzw

Thanks Kevin- The unit you have doesn't have an upgraded camera. Do you have confirmation that the rumors regarding an upgraded camera for essex are unfounded? I am still holding on to my 8330, waiting for the right phone. A 5 megapixel shooter would make the tour2 the right phone.

In the modern world of electronics I can't believe people think that a new model phone "only" 6 months later means they got screwed. I am a photographer and these days it is not uncommon for Nikon, Canon, ect... to replace a givin camera model every 8-12 months. Keep in mind the top end cameras can run $2,000-$4,000! I know when I buy one that a new one will probably come out in a year or less. No different with TV's, blue-ray players, hell just about any form of electronics. You buy what is available at the time you need it. I had heard the rumors of a Tour 2 before I got my Sprint Tour. Knowing that wi-fi and a track pad were likely to be the only upgrades I decided the current Tour was all I needed. I am more than happy with it! It has never had a trackball problem, never frozen, never rebooted itself (my curve 8330 did that all the time). It just works and I am happy with it. Besides, everyone seems to assume the Tour 2 will be issue free. Who's to say the track pad might not have issues? Who's to say we might find that Sprints data (or Verizon's) works faster than the wi-fi? Any number of things can happen! And as for OS 5.0 for the Tour, I would be happy to wait awhile for it if waiting means there working out the bugs. OS 4.7 is working just fine!

is a joke! Seriously, why release all of these phones when they're all pretty much the same? Nothing innovative, just the same stuff recycled with a little change in packaging...RIM will lose a lot in market share with the new Android devices coming out...

Will original tour owners git a discount.

dammit, just received my Sprint Tour today..oh well, couldn't take another day of using the HTC Hero

dj2big

bought it a few months ago with no problems
i think i could wait for tour 3, pre 2 or hero 2

Personally, I have had no problems with my Tour. That includes no track ball issues, no software issues, and no connection issues. I mean the track pad is a great idea and wifi is an added bonus but that's really it. I just think that RIM needs to think out their production and development b/c this is the type of stuff that turns customers off really quick. The track pad is cool but there are a lot of Tour users who have had no issues with the track ball. Wifi is great but Sprint has excellent data coverage so there would be no need for me. Besides, I never leave home w/o my macbook anyway so whenever this launches, I won't be effected at all. I'll just wait for OS 5.0 to official launch for the current Tour.

I really wanted WIFI until I got my bold, now I don't really know what the point of it is. It's not much faster, and I'll never go over my data plan (which is only 512mb). So what's the point? Do people with Blackberrys suck up that much data? If so, how, it's not even technically possible for me.

I grabbed a Tour on day-one. Big upgrade from Pearl, BUT I have had problems with the trackball (super slow, lags, and jumps around). I have just dealt with it. My phone is important to my business so no time to send it back or mess around updating a new one. I love the form factor and would love the slimmer design of then 9700. I've been with Sprint for 10 years and don't really want to switch to "Drop all my calls" AT&T. So do I wait or pay through the nose for a Tour 2? I would rather have 3G over WiFi, 3G is everywhere, WiFi mostly only at home...Plus I Tetherberry! BUT with WiFi you can talk and use Data at the same time. Assuming it works like the Bold. Also don't forget when Apple dropped the iPhone $100 they gave the early adopters a credit. I paid $200 (after rebates) now you can go into Best Buy and grab one for 50 bucks....what the hell? 5.0 is coming regardless just sit tight! Come on Sprint/Verizon/RIM at least a trade in/up program for Tour 1 owners would be nice!!!

Tour3 with 4G, touch screen hybrid and at least a Gig of on board memory? just wishing.......

I have heard all these horror stories about everyones BB Tour but I have to say, I have had NO problems with my tour and I just love it! :)

first of all i would like to say that i am appalled at all the hostility that is going on with people posting their problems about their phones.you all are just RUDE.i only got through the first page before i decided to comment because i am livid about the trash these sarcastic people are posting to others a bout "crying" and what not.look i understand what this person was saying.i am a tour owner and although i do not like the trackball i deal with it cuz overall this is the best phone i have had and i have had every phone verizon has to offer.before i chose blackberry i had all the LG phones and whatever else.my first blackberry was the storm when it first came out,and it shut down on me all the time.when i was texting and pressed the alt button it would instantly reboot itslf.it happened at least 3 to 4 times a day, after 3 of those phones i went with the blackberry curve in pink which i loves.then the tour came out and i took a chance with it an have no complaints.at all.although i dont NEED a trackpad or wifi,i do wish they would have held out on releasing the phone before they added those nice enhancements.so while u are bashing this person for expressing they way they feel about the phone,u all need to shut the hell up honestly because its rude and unnecessary.they are right to be upset about a sequel to this phone so soon.but as for free? that is unrealistic and while i do not want to pay full price for the phone i have a good phone where i know u can wait until my discount so that by the time i can get the tour 2 it will be in tip top condition and probably the replacement to everyones curve 8330.but please, the mean things you guys are saying have to stop, cuz its definitely rude and i think u all need to learn a little bit more about "net etiquette" and if you dont know what it is....

google it.

tony bag o donuts

then all of a sudden a newer version comes out and everyone comes out of the woodwork and screams bloody murder.
I had the chance for a tour, but went with the 8330 instead.
Why? because it is a tried and tested device.

Car reference...lemon law does not include electronics.....so that doesn't hold water.

You bought a phone. Deal with getting your replacements. It was a first gen device. If people think that this or any other electronic device is released without updated versions in the works is completely delusional.

Would not the only difference be that trackpad? I mean if they release a system update to get us to the same place as the Tour 2 just without the trackpad I would be fine with that. %.0 needs to come on out because my Tour literally take 17 minutes to reboot. The longest 17 minutes I ever have tio wait. I try to find things to do in the meantime because looking at that white screen waiting for the status bar really sucks!

I may be completely wrong on this but wasnt the Tour released on both Sprint and Verizon on July 12? That was about 4 months ago. So if the original Tour 2 release was slated for Jan/Feb, that would make the original Tour 2 slated release 6-7 months after the first Tour. Also nothing official has been released that the Tour 2 will be out before that time. I completley agree that if you have had a bunch of trouble with numerous Tours they should at least help you get into another device without any penalty but there is a limit on what consumers should expect.

Also since all carriers are now demanding wifi in high end devices, why would Verizon wait around in getting the Tour 2 into the market. I know I certainly wouldnt want to let my competitors get a head start on offering devices just because the "old" Tour came out "a few" months ago.

The lemmon law car analysis is completely irrelevant in my opinion. a car can cost a consumer tens of thousands of dollars while a cell phone is a few hundered. Obviously laws are going to protect such a consumer on such a huge invetment like a car.

Technology changes do rapidly that you cannot expect to have the latest and greatest device for the entire duration of your contract. If I go buy the best computer money can buy, in six months there is something better. Now my computer will still be high end and have the funtionality that I need, but it isnt the best money can buy anymore. Cell phones are the same way. Just because you bought your Tour in July and the Tour 2 will be released 6 months later doesnt mean yout original Tour wont work. They dont disable old devices just because new ones are out.

And finally, people are getting worked up because they have read on the internet that a Tour 2 will be released soon. Hmmm... if you are on the internet reading about upcoming devices then why did you jump all over the original Tour when it was clear it didn't have what you wanted. There are tons of reputable sites that have good info on upcoming devices and it was clear that providers are moving towards providing their customers with WiFi enabled devices, so dont be mad because YOU chose to purchase a device that didn't have WiFi and a newer device may be out soon that has it. I am pretty certain that NONE of the wireless carriers came to your house and threatened YOU to purchase the original Tour against your will. And remember. your carrier subsidized the cost of your Tour with the contractual agreement that you would user their service for the duration of your contract. They already gave you a deal on the cost of your phone so dont expect them to do it again and not get anything out of it. If you still want a Tour 2 so bad, sell your original Tour on ebay and pay retail for the Tour 2. Dont cheat the system!

Blechtman

why doesn't everybody calm down for a minute since this phone hasn't been released yet?

TheSophist87

if the tour2 will have Bluetooth 2.0 or 2.1? As far as I an see, if it has BT 2.1 then there will be little to no difference in the specs between the Tour 2 and the Bold save .26oz for the weight and .04" on the width.
