Podcast Episode 023: BlackBerry World Gone Wild!
Seriously, is just me or does it seem like the BlackBerry World has gone out of control in the past few days? We cover it all on this week's podcast, minus the three new Storm videos that surfaced literally minutes after we finished recording the show. I guess them's the breaks. Enjoy the show!!

Look like the invite says October 16th for the NYC event, but the previous website had Oct. 30th as the NYC date. By the way, who are invited to these events anyway? I assume those people in the know and tech reporters, etc.?
inkwell Oct 7, 2008 at 2:28 pm
The initial invitation I believe circulates to industry people, but anyone can actually go after you RSVP. And even then, in NY, you should always go early and dress nicer then indicated. Sometimes the bouncer makes up his own rules and can choose to shut you down.

w00t, another wicked podcast. Was glad to hear my thoughts on the BGR 8220, were in line as well, I think he got a bum device.

What is the latest os for the 8320?
Anonymous Oct 8, 2008 at 5:10 am
I have info on 4.5.0.81 and testing it now. there has been talk of 4.5.0.87 being out in the wild but I have not seen it. As far as i know 4.5.0.52 has been really good for 8320 from t-mobile USA. if you need info PIN me 2425ff94.

Kevin - in the podcast you mentioned possible hardware differences in the Bold. I saw that Phonegeek (an AT&T Bold tester) had posted several times in the forums that whereas AT&T were getting OS updates that there were also wholesale swap outs of all Bold units being tested by AT&T by RIM during the testing phases. I assume that RIM would only do that if they could only resolve some issues with h/w changes as opposed to s/w changes to the OS. You really should get some ninja to look into this, because that could be the root cause of so many of your NYC issues with your Rogers Bold.

You said RIM is building their own chip....that's not accurate. The Bold runs a Marvell Tavor chipset.
http://gizmodo.com/389384/blackberry-bold-aka-9000-officially-official
The older (8XXX) GSM devices also used Marvell chipsets running at 312mhz. The CDMA devices all use various qualcomm chips. And finally the Javelin will be running a freescale processor.
Supporting a new chipset requires new drivers and for 3G obviously requires writing new radio code.

don't think he was referring to application processor (everybody knows that's the 612) but to rim writing their own radio code

Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving and Oktoberfest, everyone!
I had some time kickin' around, so I'm listening to the podcast right now. Very informative. Kept my interest. So I guess I'm not a typical user then LOL.
FYI: Mike Lazaridis is involved with the Institute for Quantum Computing (http://www.iqc.ca/)
Great job guys!
