These days, it's pretty much an ongoing ritual when a new piece of technology hits the market. If you build it, someone will want to tear it down and that's no different when it comes to the BlackBerry Z10. Ottawa's TechInsights have now splayed all the key components of the latest BlackBerry smartphone for all to see. Overall, there aren't a whole lot of surprises to be found within but for those who care about the finer details, here's a list of what they found.

If you're into the nitty gritty details of how it all works together, TechInsights has a pretty expanded write up of their device on their site. You can hit the link below to skip on over there and check it all out. It's a pretty interesting read as they offer up some opinions on how the device stacks up against the likes of the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3.

I wonder if there is a fm api that will come our. Would love to listen to some local radio stations
Thunderbuck Feb 11, 2013 at 10:43 pm
The biggest limiting factor there would be an antenna. If the board is wired to allow the headphones to work as an antenna, cool, but if they haven't made that provision there isn't a hope it would work.
zerobelow Feb 11, 2013 at 10:22 pm
It looks like the radio in the phone is both CDMA and GSM...does that mean one could theoretically buy an unlocked canadian/UK Z10 from GSM provider there, and then use it on Verizon/Sprint in the US?
Abrante Feb 11, 2013 at 10:26 pm
Correct me if I am wrong... I think that Sprint and Verizon don't activate sim card (unless it is for international services "gsm" services on their worldphones). When activating a phone on their networks it is via the ESN number. So if my previous statement is correct, you can have it flashed and activated on those carriers only if they are willing to do it for you.
pete6032 Feb 11, 2013 at 10:30 pm
No. Verizon and Sprint will only activate phones on their networks that have known ESNs. IE they wont activate a phone on their network if it belongs to another carrier. They can tell it belongs to another carrier because the ESN of each phone will not be in their database.
I bet you could get it working on PagePlus, though. PagePlus lets you activate unknown ESNs on their network.
Abrante Feb 11, 2013 at 10:33 pm
Yup. My cousin also had his Galaxy S3 flashed and setup to work with Cricket.

FM TriQuint = fm radio?

Texas Instruments WL1273L - Single-Chip 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth, and FM
BBPandy Feb 12, 2013 at 2:24 am
Yea that's what I was wondering. I know they have a VERY NICE looking TAT inspired radio tuner app for their QNX Car 2.0. I wonder why that app isn't on the phone...maybe it will come with BB 10.1

I love seeing things like this in a review for the Z10: Unequivocally, I would say that this is the best touchscreen keyboard I have ever experienced."
BB_Bmore Feb 11, 2013 at 10:37 pm
If this dropped on Valentines day in the United States I wouldn't be mad.
camera531 Feb 11, 2013 at 11:00 pm
A month and change later

"there's really nothing here to make you want to come back., unless you really miss BB Messenger. " Once again, someone hasn't done their homework. SMH

You clearly belong to the Specs Police but you've missed a step there.
This thing doesn't have to lug Android OS around daily have you see how these "lowly specs" compare in real life operation with the greatest you've got right now?
It's a hardware plus software kinda thing, sir.
sk8er_tor Feb 12, 2013 at 8:41 am
Foolish comment.
Jimcmf Feb 11, 2013 at 11:03 pm
Where's the software dude?
Go America Go. We're #1 !

Torch 9860 + Playbook 64GB = Fun times!
Where's the camera module? My guess is that it's from Sony.
jann41 Feb 11, 2013 at 11:38 pm
I desperately need a new phone, because the touchscreen on my 9800 has failed. Can't wait for the Z10 to come to ATT!
camera531 Feb 12, 2013 at 12:42 am
Only two full months to go
DJRME Feb 11, 2013 at 11:56 pm
Go vote for the Z10, keep the heat on

I thought the WLAN was already 802.11ac ready but it seems only 802.11n which is a shame
Abrante Feb 12, 2013 at 1:33 am
My netgear router supports the ac standard so I was hoping for that on the z10 too. No biggie though.
BBPandy Feb 12, 2013 at 2:26 am
AC & AD standards wont be finalized until the end of the year. I suspect you won't see many phones with them until after that happens....(maybe some androids but that's it)
backfire101 Feb 12, 2013 at 4:57 am
FM would be very much appreciated
borceg Feb 12, 2013 at 5:24 am

I hope FM comes to all BB10!
ofutur Feb 12, 2013 at 6:37 am
Last year's hardware, saved for a few months by fresh software, for now.
BlackBerry better have a nice high-end phone in Q3!

So the Texas Instruments WL1273L - Single-Chip 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth, and FM. Supports FM if its activated in the OS?
Also any hardware pieces listed implies that USB on the go is supported (hardware-wise)?
cmdrkeen86 Feb 12, 2013 at 12:04 pm
I thought the exact same thing two weeks ago when I saw what SOC they were using. I have asked this question on the forums to see if anyone has checked, many views of the post but no replies. It isn't like the adapters are expensive, I got one on Amazon for less than 1USD.
El Bori Feb 12, 2013 at 7:43 am
excellent article, thanks for the link...
BB_Phoenix Feb 12, 2013 at 8:08 am
Suprisingly, no mention of the camera.
Mr.Black.Berry Feb 12, 2013 at 8:12 am
CRACKBERRY IS THE S@#T!!!

THAT LOOKS SO EASY TO TAKE APART AND REPLACE THINGS. Almost looks like fun.

If you want a fm radio go buy a sony walkman
rawilliam Feb 12, 2013 at 9:21 am
No one noted that the board was a G3 board.
Fnord Feb 12, 2013 at 10:10 am
Am I the only one who recalls Mike Lazaridis saying that BB10 would be delayed because they were waiting for a new chipset to hit the market?
Don't see anything in that list that hasn't been in market for some time...
adrenaline_x Feb 12, 2013 at 10:47 am
Yah... He said that over a year ago.. THen when Throsten Took over he pushed the launch back because the OS wasn't close to being ready.
Lazaridis may have been correct as the s3 came out in june or may in the uk, so in the fall of 2011 the chips may not have been ready.. But This isn't have Thor pushed it back.. The software made him push it back.
Worth the wait.. the OS is great and i don't miss my s3 so far. A few people here at my work with iphones and droids are really thinking about switching in the upcoming months as their contracts end... Pretty surprised.
Fnord Feb 12, 2013 at 10:56 am
Agreed!
Def worth the wait :)
lorax1284 Feb 12, 2013 at 11:07 am
With all the chatter about image quality with the camera, the fact that the camera component isn't mentioned specifically (manufacturer and part number) is kind of irritating.
Gary Carbray Feb 12, 2013 at 6:55 pm
(novice question) I thought that there would be Paratek technology in the Z10. Is it there? I believe it was manufactured by STMicroelectronics.
Rootbrian Feb 16, 2013 at 8:51 pm
Specs don't matter to me. As long as the smartphone works, that's all I care about.
sundaraaa Mar 25, 2013 at 7:23 pm
Sadly TI WL1273L does not support FM.
