Dang not til April. I may get the Z.
PagerRocka Jan 30, 2013 at 11:10 am
This sucks. Maybe I'll get a 9900 instead, I've always wanted a 9900
ddlax22 Jan 30, 2013 at 11:49 am
want to buy my old one? its a bit beat up but still
Stanleyjames526@gmail.com Jan 30, 2013 at 11:12 am
What tHe hell"Apri????you gotta be joking!!!
BPMurph Jan 30, 2013 at 11:20 am
Not grousing, but that is a BIG lag. Basically, another quarter and even then, no guarantees.
"Meet the new boss... same as the old boss..."
cowtownian Mar 23, 2013 at 8:16 am
Not at all... Heins and group have done this on purpose. To slowly build momentum that provides for a sustainable product-line launch. Once the quarter 1 report comes out with q10 and z10 results... BlackBerry will be officially back!
sulcopete Jan 30, 2013 at 11:25 am
WTF. April? Why is BlackBerry discriminating against the old faithful? There is no denying a huge number of BlackBerry diehards are the ones who want/demand/won't live without a physical keyboard. So why penalize for that? I'm not an apple iphone wannabe....

April is too late. The hype will have died down by then.
cowtownian Mar 23, 2013 at 8:12 am
nope... they hype is only beginning!
GKSapps Jan 30, 2013 at 11:32 am
I'm disappointed that the Q10 won't be available until April. That's 2 to 3 months away. The lack of a physical keyboard is partly what's kept me from switching to other phones.
sbndrf Jan 30, 2013 at 11:33 am
Hey Adam, you mistakenly wrote "as early as" instead of "as late as".
montyl Jan 30, 2013 at 11:41 am
Since the begining they said the Q10 would be later in the year, all of the focus was on the Z10, but now they are saying even the Z10 wont be available in the US until late March.
Antti Jan 30, 2013 at 11:44 am
April availability!!
Blackberry is loosing it.
Two year no new phone!!
dansus Jan 30, 2013 at 11:47 am
April? FFS.
I was all excited to get one tomorrow.
HazAnwar Jan 31, 2013 at 4:39 pm
Gizmodo UK are reporting availability tomorrow (31st Jan 2013) on UK carriers
"The Q10 will be available tomorrow in the UK, on all major carriers."
*EDIT* They corrected their site so guess the wait is on...
chipclipsix Jan 30, 2013 at 11:48 am
i can wait. i know everybody wants the phone now but my mama always said patience is a virtue. so i'm sticking out until april. even if the hype has died by then i will bring it back. believe it.
blackberry. believe.
Antti Jan 30, 2013 at 12:06 pm
I am going to buy something else.
No reason to wait until April or later!
cowtownian Mar 23, 2013 at 7:59 am
Hmm... Antti registered the same day he made this comment... and has not commented on the site since. Guessing by his name, I am going to guess he is a Nokia supporter.
Dafunkhead Jan 30, 2013 at 12:18 pm
Risky strategy. ...why show the Q10 during the presentation if it is not going to be available now?
There is a BB market for an all out touch screen and one for a traditional keyboard version. The revenue potential from both segments is huge! Strange decision if they plan to delay that long.
atlantadoug Jan 30, 2013 at 12:55 pm
I think the physical keyboard is done and in the not too distant future most activity on the phone will be controlled via voice. Watching the launch today I came to realize my own desire for physical keyboard is 90% nostalgia and not correlated with productivity given how far the combination of touch keyboard and voice activated commands have come (i can type as fast now on a touchscreen as physical). Physical keyboard will eventually be done and gone and not just on the phone. A friend at the event also told me that the phone is sluggish in some ways and boot time is still crazy long. This could be the end of a revolution and its ok all things change.
slagman5 Feb 1, 2013 at 8:20 pm
Sorry, maybe you're not good at the keyboard or something because the keyboard is a whole lot more than just "nostalgia." It's not simply the typing, it's the fact that's it's always there, no menu, no waiting for the OS to open the keyboard, nothing to select to bring it up. So for things like speed dial, while people on touch-screen devices have to switch their screen to their "favorites" list or whatever, my phone is already dialing since all I had to do is hold the corresponding key. Then doing searches, from my homescreen I just start typing what Iw ant to search, then the first time I touch the screen it's simply to select what I want to search what I just typed. On a touch-screen only, you have to first turn on the screen, then touch the universal search icon, then start typing, or open the app then start searching. Even now without BB10, my Bold 9900 is relatively underpowered compared to my friends' Samsung Galaxies or what-not, yet I am always the first to find things. Looking up nearby restaurants, looking up an address, phone number of a business, etc. I ALWAYS beat all of my friends, and I'm 100% sure it's because of the keyboard... So you can jump on the touchscreen bandwagon and sit next to all of the other people who are wowed by the pretty screen. Keep telling yourself that the keyboard contributes nothing to efficiency or productivity, I'll stick to my keyboard and continue mocking my friends when I've found what we're looking for and they are all still plucking away staring into their phones... But hey, at least the screen they are forced to stare into for so long is pretty... Oh, but in terms of flat-out typing, I can type without looking with the keyboard. So walking and texting is not a hazard for me since I keep my eyes on where I'm going while I type. Try that with a touchscreen keyboard...
guidyup Mar 8, 2013 at 2:49 pm
Hi, I like your comment. I am holding out for the Q10. I am a dedicated BB 9900 user and use a handful of apps, like Whatsapp, Flixster, the flashlight, dropbox, yelp, google maps, call blocker, screen grabber, dream sounds.... wow, I had more than I thought.
Anyway, what are your favorite apps and why? What is the one you use for searching for nearby restaurants and things?
I love recommendations from others on what apps really work well and help them day to day.
guerllamo7 Apr 7, 2013 at 11:16 am
Great points. I remember riding on a golf cart and thinking 'there is no way I could have sent this message out if I was typing on glass'.
If virtual keyboards were so cool then why don't we have them at home and work? The answer is that physical keyboards are better. However, on a phone, with limited real estate, some prefer to have the bigger screen than the better keyboard. That is
legitimate in my view.
I've had the Z10 since launch at AT&T and despite the awesome virtual keyboard I long for the Q10 (I have two phones) so I'm waiting for the release. It could be this month so I'm just waiting. I do love the keyboard shortcuts as you mentioned.

I disagree, but then that's personal preference. Plus, as for voice commands, I don't need to hear everyone around me what I'm currently doing on my phone.

This is God awful.
Release dates in March and April? WTFH!@#!@#!@
That is BS! Good luck Blackberry. This is the beginning of the end.
Terrible.. who is leading the charge in the US?
Absolutely EMBARASSING for this release date...

People like this just make certain that I will never use Apple or Android.
modbro Feb 1, 2013 at 5:57 pm
You want to make a dent, hit the US market immediately, not in a few months or when the carriers feel like it.
Speaking as a longtime (over 15 years) BB user I am disappointed that I have to wait until March or April. I have had an upgrade for over a year. Blackberry has told the US market, the one that built BB in the beginning, your not as important as the rest of the world, be patient.
I guess I will get a used 9900, no contract and wait a year or so until IOS or Anroid duplicate the few innovations that BB 10 offers and just be done with the wishful thinking!!!
Had I been able to get one in my hands now, I would have... Tired of waiting...
WhutChaDoin Feb 2, 2013 at 5:11 am
It makes no sense to me that the device with a physical keyboard(one of BlackBerry's defining features) is coming out after the iPhone clone. The few BlackBerry users I personally know have not changed to iOS or Android because of the BB keyboard. The hardware has been lacking for a while now, I am hoping that the delay does not diminish the already dimming star that is RIM.
Rootbrian Feb 2, 2013 at 6:50 am
HOLY CRAP. Lots of negativity. I don't CARE if it's until april. Realize you can *SAVE UP* until then and buy it outright eh? That's EXACTLY what I'm going to be doing.
slagman5 Feb 2, 2013 at 8:56 am
Seriously, if 2 months is enough to make someone change their mind and get a completely different phone that doesn't have what the Q10 offers, then that is the definition of flakey. Obviously the benefits of the Q10 is not that important if 2 months of waiting is enough to change their minds... I'll be saving up until then. For now my Bold 9900 is still serving me very well.
cowtownian Mar 23, 2013 at 8:07 am
A lot of the negativity are from people who want to short sell the stock. They are not BlackBerry users. They are just trying to manipulate BlackBerry users.
crowtownpizza Feb 4, 2013 at 4:53 pm
I cant even begin... I mean it is obvious that the die hard BB users that are still with BB, are holding on to there keyboard phones hoping that someone comes along and introduces a keyboard phone. The king of the keyboard phones decides to release the Q10 last??? wtf

Coming back to Blackberry (9900) after owning iPhones for 4 yrs is a joy and no matter what, for me, the tactile use of a keyboard as an input device cannot be beaten and when sending Emails. texts, BBM I can type much faster than with a virtual keyboard.
I have also found that with the Qwerty I am using my phone much more for business and less as a platform for listening to music / watching videos etc.
I have had a play with the Z10 but despite loving the new software, I feel the hardware is not as well constructed as I would have hoped and the frame does feel very "plasticky" to me, at least the Q10 will have a stainless steel frame so will feel and hopefully be more robust.
I don't mind waiting as my current contract has a while to run.
CRJDRIVER Mar 19, 2013 at 1:29 am
I mind the wait.
I've been waiting for over two years since I bought the 9800....
Time to "get off the pot"
cowtownian Mar 23, 2013 at 8:11 am
I wanted a BlackBerry two years ago, but settled for an Android (big mistake). Now that the Q10 is here complete with touch screen... I am sooooo pumped!
On the e-mail list for updates from my carrier... going to get the Q10 on day 1! Woot!
jeevster77 Mar 29, 2013 at 10:27 am
Almost there mate, almost there.... think they need to get their touchscreens out there, complete with apps and music and Instagram etc, sell them, and sell them hard, to make money, so that they can afford to produce the bespoke keyboard slabs of genius we all love. Just like Porsche needs to make and sell Cayennes, so that they can afford to still make their 911. Guess its no coincidence that Porsche Design did a BlackBerry....
Zack Kayaselcuk Mar 30, 2013 at 8:41 pm
NO ONE CARES ABOUT Z10 this is retarded they should have released the Q10 already. I need that Q10
blkbeauti Apr 12, 2013 at 9:14 pm
Not true at all. I love my Z10 hands down. I had the android and iPhone 4. I'm very happy with my Z10
AndroidPotter Mar 31, 2013 at 12:18 am
I have been anticipating a new QWERTY/Touch phone since the announcement of OS10... I'm in my contract until January but I may just go ahead and buy the Q10 outright. I have been using BlackBerry phones for the past five years and have never had any complaints. Each time I get a new phone everyone tries to pressure me to Android or Apple, but for me, BlackBerry is the only option.
Cranky Apr 7, 2013 at 11:40 am
I'm coming home Ma. I switched from a BB to an Android a couple of years ago. While I won't say that I was disappointed, but it was a stretch to get some of the standard BB functions.
And I hate the virtual keyboard. I'll wait for the Q10 and it's physical keyboard.
ckeins Apr 7, 2013 at 4:18 pm
The Q10 is now listed at Amazon Germany for 720 EUR (~ 940 USD). Not that cheap. :(

Any word on a launch date in canada?
jssrfx Apr 12, 2013 at 1:38 pm
My wife recently upgraded to the Z10 (from her old Bold 86xx) and it's a really nice device. Bigger than the iPhone and the Android devices, very responsive, very fast (not least due to 4G). Definitely a nice touch screen phone. I still prefer to have a physical keyboard, so the Q10 looks promising. Although I'm very happy with my 9930 at present. I only got it around Christmas 2012 and it does have a touch screen, too. I would have preferred RIM keeping the nice chrome look, but I'm glad that there will be another hardware keyboard based phone. I have an iPhone as a work phone and I can't type on it very well. On my Bold, however, I'm as quick as on a computer keyboard (75 wpm).
blkbeauti Apr 12, 2013 at 9:01 pm
I would rather the Q10 roll out with less kinks then to have it full of kinks and returned. I have the Z10 and the kinks are minimal and updates are already coming. Wait people for the right time for roll out. I will get a Q10 at upgrade time to have both. I'm greedy like that.
Hellow Zah Apr 19, 2013 at 11:59 pm
Rogers has the Q10 soon prices is up at $199.99!!! The Z10 is now $99.99.
Dammit! I want the Q10 but at the Z10 price!!! SCREW U ROGERS!
