Wait, what?? Yes, you read the title correctly. SKYPE is coming to BlackBerry 10. You wanted it, you got it. Announced today during the BlackBerry 10 unveiling, Skype stated their plans to support the BlackBerry 10 platform. It's been up in the air as to if it would happen at all, but it did -- and that's pretty awesome. Skype will be available soon on both the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 devices.
"We are excited about our plans to bring Skype to smartphones running the brand new BlackBerry 10 platform," said Bob Rosin, VP & GM of Business Development for Microsoft's Skype division. "We are working closely with BlackBerry to ensure Skype runs great on BlackBerry 10 devices. This will give BlackBerry 10 users a great Skype experience, including free voice and video calling, sending instant messages and text messages, sharing photos, videos and files, and calling to landlines and mobiles at Skype's low rates."
It doesn't look to be available for devices just yet, but it shouldn't be too much longer until we see it go live in BlackBerry World.

Xader Jan 30, 2013 at 12:31 pm
lol...right?
I don't even use the dang thing, and I've been praying for it just to shut the whiners up!
Guess they'll just start listing Netflix twice from now on...
aloofkid Jan 30, 2013 at 11:23 am
Pfffft.... Ok ok, I'll use it but I'm still bitter.
bigopti Jan 30, 2013 at 11:24 am

Theresias Jan 30, 2013 at 11:28 am
Now the real question is, does this mean Skype on the PlayBook as well?
dannyd86 Jan 30, 2013 at 11:42 am
Most likely it will come to the playbook with the BB10 upgrade. Doesnt skype require a monthly fee? Guess ill be spending more money on something lol
drkknyt98 Jan 30, 2013 at 12:58 pm
Skype-to-skype video and voice calls are always free. Skype-to-land/mobile phones require skype credits.
whereiskype Jan 30, 2013 at 2:02 pm
you know what i mean?
"oh i dont even use skype maybe it'll shut up the whiners"
ya sorry your not part of the millions everyday who use it
sorry i cant fly back home and set up the crappy alternatives and workarounds so my grandparents can log in easy and videochat
been waiting since playbook launch. if it comes thru then i may be interested in refreshing my 9900 with a new bb10 device.
if not then its on to st. elsewhere..theres a reason why they're called "killer apps"
maddie1128 Mar 18, 2013 at 8:29 pm
I understand where you are coming from - but you too, should understand there are millions of us who don't use it. I am so glad it is there for those of you that do though-but I never blamed BlackBerry for it not being there......that was all on Skype.
Grandma and Grandpa will be so happy for you!
birdman_38 Jan 30, 2013 at 11:28 am
Netflix and Instagram to come. Have faith :)
westex74 Jan 30, 2013 at 11:33 am

trigger1074 Jan 30, 2013 at 12:32 pm
Kindle was announced today as being on BB10

This is good news, and congratulations to QuickSilver (sorry, can't remember his acronym) for getting it right!
jkrist Jan 31, 2013 at 7:17 am
Wow! How the BBers are clamoring to get an App that has been available on Android and iOS for years.
Plus, they said it is coming: how come it was not released with the release of the new Platform?
pelletium Jan 31, 2013 at 4:13 pm
It's a shame it's an android port and not native. but hey, I'll take it ! I also look forward the Faceflow app !
md03wx Feb 1, 2013 at 2:06 pm
Do we know for sure its an android port?
KemKev Mar 22, 2013 at 10:27 am
What is shameful about it being a port? Skype has worked with BB on the type of integration that will satisfy most if not all its users on the BB10 platform. As long as it works as it should, I really couldn't care less. BlackBerry can take and has taken the horses (in this case the developers) to the water, but they cannot make them drink. Until they do, ports like Skype are good enough.
compgen25 Jan 31, 2013 at 8:06 pm
This will be great news to a lot of users but 1 thing I hate is that it is not native. Straight from the Skype forums it is the Android version of their app.
If you have a new BlackBerry smartphone powered by the BlackBerry 10 platform, we anticipate you will soon be able to download and run Skype on these devices. We are working closely with BlackBerry to ensure the Skype for Android app runs great in the BlackBerry 10 environment.
Hopefully it runs well but it would be so much better if it was native.
ciscobear Feb 1, 2013 at 5:57 pm
Nothing to see here, we heard this with Playbook as well. I still have the pics from CES.
When/IF it is launched, I will have a slice of that humble pie
Rootbrian Feb 2, 2013 at 6:41 am
Heh, I'll be using it on the playbook when the update hits. And on my blackberry Q10. :D
nauint Feb 2, 2013 at 6:55 pm
What the reason for Microsoft to be in hurry to do it for BB? I don't expect to see it in 6 month
adrenaline_x Feb 6, 2013 at 7:02 pm
Any updates on when it will be released?
andres felipe chaves rojas Mar 9, 2013 at 7:14 pm

Will the carriers put up a block?
Skype was allowed on my old VZW BlackBerry, but when I switched carriers, the app couldn't run. :(
deercreekmichael Apr 18, 2013 at 9:43 am
Three months later...
1magine Apr 19, 2013 at 1:10 pm
Three and 1/2 months later...
Could be worse, could be like all those folks still waiting for theme Studio on BB7. They were left waiting a year before BB quietly said no.
BoyAndroid 3 weeks ago
Hmm...guess based on these comments it's not quite here yet, but Kevin mentioned it again in his Q10 review...where the heck is it?

What about BB 7?
