The digital dash cluster is also customizable and features a tach, gas gauge, temperature gauge and much more. Of course you'll also find voice control, smartphone support and much more in this crazy tricked out car. I for one am excited to check this bad boy out in person (whenever that may be). Plenty more to come on this for sure, but for now head over to the QNX blog for more and keep reading for the full press release.
QNX Re-Imagines the Driving Experience With New Technology Concept Car
Car demonstrates how exceptional flexibility and integration of QNX CAR application platform 2.0 can help auto companies move faster from whiteboard to showroom
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA--(Marketwire - January 08, 2013) - 2013 International CES (North Hall, Booth 1837) - QNX Software Systems Limited, a global leader in software platforms for in-car electronics, today unveiled a technology concept car that demonstrates how the QNX CARTM application platform 2.0 is bringing new levels of design flexibility and development speed to the automotive industry.
The concept car, based on a Bentley Continental GT convertible, integrates technologies never before seen in any vehicle, to show how QNX Software Systems is helping its customers build the "connected cockpit" of tomorrow. To create the car, the QNX concept team used the same base platform that QNX offers its automotive customers - a dramatic illustration of how the platform empowers automotive companies to build unique, cutting-edge products.
"From smartphone integration to 3D navigation, our tier one customers are under pressure to deliver market-differentiating features at the speed of mobility," said Derek Kuhn, vice president of sales and marketing, QNX Software Systems. "Consumers have become conditioned by the rapid evolution of mobile devices, and the QNX CAR application platform was expressly designed to help automotive companies address those time-to-market expectations - while maintaining automotive-grade reliability and performance."
The concept car is a testament not only to the flexibility of the QNX CAR application platform 2.0, but to the rich, closely knit ecosystem of technology partners that QNX Software Systems has built over the last decade. Highlights include:
Revolutionary center stack with DLP® display from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) - Say goodbye to the conventional flat touchscreen. This immense DLP-enabled display features an organically curved surface, full HD graphics, and TI's optical touch input technology, which allows physical control knobs to be mounted directly on the screen. The result: an ideal balance in physical and touchscreen controls. "Always available" 3D navigation from Elektrobit makes full use of the display, enabling the driver to know where they are at all times. Crank Software's StoryboardTM Suite was used to develop the dynamic user interface and rich animations.
Natural voice recognition based on AT&T Watson(SM) - Just say "Hello Bentley," and the car's voice recognition system immediately starts interacting with you, in a distinctly British accent. No button pushes needed, as the system uses Truly HandsfreeTM keyword spotting technology from Sensory. The system is powered by AT&T Watson speech recognition technology, which enables handsfree control of the media player and navigation system. The AT&T Watson multimodal and multilingual speech engine runs on a cloud-based server to provide high-quality recognition with low latency. The system also uses an intent framework from QNX Software Systems for adapting AT&T Watson to a variety of in-car applications.
Flexible smartphone integration - The Bentley showcases how the QNX CAR application platform enables advanced integration with popular smartphone platforms. For instance, the car can communicate with the user's smartphone to stream music, or to provide notifications of incoming email, news feeds, and other real-time information, displayed in a manner appropriate to the automotive context.
Multimedia system with first in-car implementation of Shazam music discovery service - The infotainment system includes an HTML5 implementation of Pandora® Internet radio that is deeply integrated into the media player, as well as the first implementation of the Shazam® music discovery service embedded in a car.
Web app for remote monitoring - Simply connect to a web app and keep tabs on the Bentley in real time! The Bentley is cloud-connected and continuously publishes a variety of data about itself (current media track, fluid levels, tire pressure, etc.) that you can view on any device with a browser that supports HTML5 - no app download needed. In the real world, only the driver would have access to this functionality, but the demo is available to everyone to demonstrate the possibilities of cloud access.
Video conferencing with realistic telepresence - The Bentley raises the concept of the mobile office to a new level by providing advanced video conferencing - while the car is parked, of course. Separate cameras for the driver and passenger provide independent video streams, while high-definition voice technology from QNX offers expanded bandwidth for greater realism, as well as stereo telepresence for making the remote caller sound as if they're sitting right next to you.
Reconfigurable digital instrument cluster - Implemented entirely in software, the cluster can be reconfigured on-the-fly to provide the driver with a variety of context-appropriate information. For instance, it integrates with the center stack's 3D navigation system to display turn-by-turn directions, right where they're easiest to see. It can also display current weather conditions and a video feed of the car's back-up camera, as well as a tachometer, speedometer, and other virtual instruments.
LTE connectivity - The Bentley features an LTE radio modem, as well as a Wi-Fi® hotspot for devices brought into the car.
QNX reference vehicle with mobile integration and user personalization
QNX Software Systems will also demonstrate the QNX reference vehicle, a specially modified Jeep Wrangler that showcases what the QNX CAR application platform 2.0 can do, straight out of the box. Highlights include one-touch Bluetooth® pairing with smartphones using NFC, an auto-centric HTML5 framework for leveraging the mobile ecosystem, DLNA® support for phone and home -based media, high-definition hands-free communication, and advanced personalization options for drivers, OEMs, and developers. The vehicle also integrates a variety of partner apps and technologies for hybrid navigation, natural speech recognition, streaming Internet radio, weather reporting, parking search, Twitter® access, FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) software updates, and integrated Bluetooth profiles.
QNX Software Systems has licensed its software technology for millions of in-vehicle systems worldwide, including digital instrument clusters, hands-free systems, multimedia head units, connectivity modules, and 3D navigation systems.

Is this the car Kevin is giving away if Instagram isn't on BB10?
advil_yum Jan 8, 2013 at 9:34 am
+1! :)
Shanerredflag Jan 8, 2013 at 11:54 am
LOL...+2
dannyd86 Jan 8, 2013 at 12:47 pm
No, this means he can give away the old porche concept
Kevin Michaluk Jan 8, 2013 at 7:41 pm
Lol. I never specificied what kind of car.... but likely not this one. Besides.. Instagram will come to BlackBerry 10.
Just Me Jan 8, 2013 at 11:19 pm
That car is Boss. The QNX Car 2 concept team is the best.
That video reminded me of what a ridiculous job was done with a competitors tablet in the Bentley Mulsanne. They essentially duct tapped a tabled to the back of a seat and called it the future. Sure the duct tape was actually beautiful butter leather with baseball stitching but the technical execution was comparable to kindergarden finger painting. http://youtu.be/dP3tbiO1ngI
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:14 am
Couldn't be worse than the tagline 'Best in-car infotainment! Comes with 3 iPads connected to the Cloud!' haha rofl
BBInPlay Jan 8, 2013 at 9:32 am
Wow, further glimpses of some possible bb10 integration?
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:17 am
Instantaneously your car is your home now and you just take a little bit with you on your Smartphone.
I'm very happy that this concept makes the smartphone what it really is.. A gateway or just an entry-point to management.
QNX offers high-level connectivity to all platforms (through different architecture), however BlackBerry 10 can obviously be connected to the core and that's where the Hub is..!!
mr_zed10 Jan 8, 2013 at 9:41 am
Will I be able to use Blackberry Bridge on my BB10 to connect to the car & then make use of the built in accelerometer to steer the car from the back seats whilst screen sharing, on a voice call and streaming music to my car?
You know it makes sense ;)
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:18 am
Wait!! This is just the transcript of the QNX Future of Cars demo!!
digitalman101 Jan 8, 2013 at 9:43 am
any video??
Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes Jan 8, 2013 at 9:49 am
Volkswagen owns bentley. Volkswagen owns porsche. All one big german family no matter how you look at it!
digitalman101 Jan 8, 2013 at 9:54 am
Volkswagen owns bugatti :-)
backfire101 Jan 8, 2013 at 10:12 am
And Bentley ;-)
Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes Jan 8, 2013 at 11:00 am

Hope u guys say it Folks-wagon
Jake Storm Jan 9, 2013 at 12:21 am
But the proper pronunciation would be "Folks-vagon"
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:31 am
It's too much to ask of Americans!
Jonesy1966 Jan 8, 2013 at 2:18 pm
I was just thinking the same thing! I'd love to see a QNX'd Veyron!
Can I be first to start the rumour of VW taking over RIM?? ;)
TomJasper Jan 8, 2013 at 10:00 am
QNX (RIM) are setting "standards" for others to follow. ;)
coolaide Jan 8, 2013 at 10:59 am
Not if nobody ever sees this stuff. They need package this stuff as a aftermarket addon. Damn the go big on go home. Most people will never sit in a big$ car so go mainstream on quit showing us what we cant afford. Pioneer has android aftermarket units and ive seen tons of people with them.
Its pisses me off seeing all these badass qnx apps in videos that never made in to the playbook. They showed the speakerphone app running on qnx a year ago. Dont they think we want to use that to make call from our playbook through brige. How about they release a head unit with a wifi hub that can stream to other devices in the vehicle. This is stuff to should be releasing with bb10. Not shown in a would of could of video.
/sigh......End Rant
Thunderbuck Jan 8, 2013 at 11:37 am
Actually, a lot of this stuff DOES make it out.
The thing is, infotainment systems are arguably the biggest driver for new car sales right now. The manufacturers are understandably reluctant to see it made available for retrofitting.
It's very likely in QNX's contract terms when it works for an automaker that they don't offer the same tech "off the shelf".
Rootbrian Jan 8, 2013 at 7:01 pm
#quote you can't always get what you want from any company.
Just Me Jan 8, 2013 at 11:27 pm
Chevrolet Spark and Sonic are both already on the market with a similar system. Sure they have smaller screens and fewer features but they are more affordable.
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:20 am
What's the price of the QNX Car2 embedded system? If you are not aware you cannot say 'more' affordable.
Besides, QNX was invented to be affordable.
Just Me Jan 10, 2013 at 10:49 pm
Let me clarify, the Chevrolet Spark (with embedded QNX system) costs less than the Bentley (with proof of concept QNX system). The Spark is likely more affordable than the Bentley.
peterallcdn Jan 8, 2013 at 10:05 am
I just wanna see all this stuff in cars, today! QNX Auto is a bigger tease than BB10!!! :-)
Nightfox111 Jan 8, 2013 at 10:45 am
This is big one - Delphi is basic in all the GM vehicles... Like to see a Chrysler (dodge) announcement too since they are using QNX also.
Andrew4life Jan 8, 2013 at 10:45 am
Can you spot the following? ;)
BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9981 Phone
Blackberry Action Splat
peterallcdn Jan 8, 2013 at 10:54 am
Both jumped out at me. :-)
peterallcdn Jan 8, 2013 at 10:57 am
... Oh, and the answer is of course: Phone on one of the programmers' desks, and the splat on a silver box next to the new DLP centre stack. :-D
walnuts1024 Jan 8, 2013 at 11:48 am
I spotted a QNX jeep.
jr4941 Jan 8, 2013 at 10:51 am
Just wow. Awesome.
Shintocam Jan 8, 2013 at 10:59 am
Now that I've seen this video all I can say is I am extremely jealous of these guys. Seems like an awesome job to have to go to every day. I'm sure it can be mind numbing at time - decoding bugs etc...but man would I love to be working on that project.
digitalman101 Jan 8, 2013 at 2:46 pm
+1
I would leave my Telecom management position in a blink of an eye...
Miss developting instrumentation and controlo.. back to the good old days.
Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes Jan 8, 2013 at 11:02 am
Kevin has been hinting at something big to come out or leak lately. I have heard we will see it "tuesday" and "next week" from his posts and videos. I really hope that this isn't the big thing for RIM we were expecting. Its cool but it doesn't affect my life in the present like a bb10 phone leak would...
Kevin Michaluk Jan 8, 2013 at 7:43 pm
What I'm hinting at is something different.. it's something "we're doing" that's gonna be freak'n awesome.
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:09 am
Haha it's the CrackBerry website made for BlackBerry 10!
Jake Storm Jan 9, 2013 at 12:24 am
A CrackBerry flash mob?
mrfreetruth Jan 8, 2013 at 11:40 am
Volkswagen is the biggest automaker in the world. Do they like QNX?
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:12 am
QNX is new to 'our' ears because of RIM.. But the automakers are very much aware of it's presence in the market and the potential it holds.
It's very much a given for the biggest company to take the leading step in innovation and technology.
Honestly, as the future comes.. It's not about likes or dislikes but more about getting things done regardless.
BB_Bmore Jan 8, 2013 at 1:18 pm
The maps application looks incredible.
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:22 am
3D maps with hawk-eye view!
Thachoc1 Jan 8, 2013 at 4:11 pm
This is beyond Sick!!!! WOWWZERSS!!!!!
digitalman101 Jan 8, 2013 at 4:47 pm
Any other vídeo out besides making of?
cranksoftware Jan 8, 2013 at 9:40 pm
You can check how Crank Software helped with the UI :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV6hSAyck9c
Just Me Jan 8, 2013 at 11:42 pm
Great video. I'm rather excited to see a team like Crank working on the UI. My Q5 has an earlier QNX system,it works flawlessly but the UI is confusing and sterile.
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:24 am
This is where QNX Car2 comes in.. A lot of stuff was not available earlier which makes all the graphics and stuff possible..
Before it was a vendor designed interface running on QNX.. But how I see it is that it's going to shift to OEM Branding on QNX Car2 based interface.
varunsain Jan 9, 2013 at 12:38 am
Thanks for the link! It's really beautiful the entire development process and the graphics and UI..
I'm a graphic designer and I publicly offer you my services for free!
coolaide Jan 9, 2013 at 7:00 am
That sure looks like they are running there software off a Raspberry PI at 1:01
Crankonaught Jan 9, 2013 at 12:26 pm
Great to see Crank Storyboard Suite 3.0 in the QNX Concept Car.

Wish my Playbook was nice and smooth like that map app was. Instead its real slow and loads/types soooooooo slow.
