Introducing PHON.ES, our new URL shortener for CrackBerry and all our Mobile Nations sites!

PHONES!

Be sure to pronounce it PHONES (not fon dot ē ess)

With services like twitter capping messages at 140 characters, a shortened URL is a necessity when it comes to sharing a link to a webpage article via social channels. On CrackBerry to date we've used third party bit.ly for our link shortening needs, but we've now pulled the trigger on our awesome new URL shortener, phon.es and will be using that across all of our Mobile Nations sites going forward.

Vanity URL shorteners are all the rage and we've been brainstorming for a long time now what would we be the best for CrackBerry and our other sites. Google uses goo.gl, Apple has itun.es, BlackBerry uses bbry.lv, etc. We thought about doing a different shortener for each one of our sites, but just couldn't figure out domains that would work well across the board. So we went back to thinking about a URL that could work well for all of our properties, and a few weeks ago it hit us. PHON.ES!

Nobody knows phones better than Mobile Nations. Android Central, CrackBerry, iMore, Windows Phone Central and webOS Nation are the authorities and leading communities for each of their respected platforms. So it's fitting that we have literally the best URL shortener in existence for phones. So if you see a link out there in the webosphere starting with http://phon.es/, be sure to click it - you'll end up back on one of our sites! Enjoy!!

I like the name for sure!

MobileNations went Spanish?

Actually I got this info from @CrackBerryScoops 2 months ago.

I saw it in some top secret photos that were NOT fake.

Ironically, my company blocks Phon.es, but not CrackBerry.
Shhhhhh... nobody say anything!

green_ember

I can't believe it wasn't already taken

AVPTI

Would have preferred each site having their own to keep their own personality.

But this works.

Best news since BB10. Watch the stock soar.

What's the point of link shortening outside of Twitter. I don't like clicking shortened links because I don't know where it's sending me. Seems like an easy way to pick up a virus.

dannyd86

which is the reason crackberry just posted this. So now you know phone.es links are safe

I think it's cool but takes away from the mobile nations brand. You guys are bigger than just phones...

Rootbrian

Excellent. Now when I ReTweet something on identica to twitter, IT'LL WORK FLAWLESSLY!!! :D

Pretty stupid. Better not mess with my accounts again.

Well, I suppose since you're Mobile Nations, you specialize in Mobile PhonEs.

But isn't webOS not necessarily a smartphone? I mean, it can be installed on virtually anything.

BBPandy

I guess "mobi.le" was taken?
I agree with the previous poster & Thortein, it's becoming more about mobile then just phones. BB10 in cars ect.
