OS 2.1.0.1088 for the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook now available

With the BlackBerry PlayBook WiFi having long recieved its update to OS 2.1 as a whole, it's now time for the 4G LTE PlayBook to get some love as well. Despite previous reports of it having already been sent out, if you go ahead and check for updates you'll find OS 2.1.0.1088 is available for download. As expected, you'll find this release has all the same goodies added as OS 2.1.0.1032 for the BlackBerry PlayBook WiFi and the fixes from OS 2.1.0.1088.
- Updated BlackBerry Bridge: Now you can view, respond and compose new SMS messages on their BlackBerry PlayBook Tablet when connected to a BlackBerry smartphone over Bluetooth®. You’ll also enjoy increased performance and speed of other BlackBerry Bridge functions as well. So you can do more, more efficiently. Txt away, my friends.
- Email and PIM Enhancements: You’ve asked for it and we’ve delivered portrait support for email, calendar and contacts, giving you the option to use your tablet in either orientation to message. This will definitely come in handy for those of you who enjoy thumb typing in portrait mode like I do.
- Improved Android Application Support: Includes Multi-Window Applications, Camera Support and In-App Payments. We all love a richer app experience, and with the improvements to the Android runtime, that’s just what you’ll get. Running the applications in separate windows allows you to multi-task between Android apps easier, and in-app payments will make it easier for you to enhance your app content. Game on!
If you're a 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook owner, go ahead and grab the update and don't forget to drop by the CrackBerry forums and let us know how things are working out for you.

When iOS comes out it is for everything right? So how come RIM needs to update the LTE PB and the WiFi one seperate?
sk8er_tor Nov 23, 2012 at 12:04 am
We need someone at CrackBerry to clarify what the update process on BB10 will be like. Is it going to be across the board like iOS or will the carriers be controlling it?
If we're going to have to wait months for carriers to release their updates, it's going to suck royally.
Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes Nov 23, 2012 at 1:37 am
+1. The usual response is "well for the 4g one the cellular stack needs approval". But when you look at it the way you mentioned iOS always have both at the time time...so it is possible. Please advise.
Kandoo-BB Nov 22, 2012 at 4:31 pm
Its not RIM who held it back it was your carrier. Have fun with IOS the oldest platform out. and while Apple locks you into their way of how the user experience should be,Ill be enjoying BlackBerry10 with the best browser hands down on the market ,true multi tasking,Beautiful Cascades built native apps along with uncompromising web experience. Ie Flash and the best html5 scores you can get.
OniPod Nov 22, 2012 at 7:20 pm
No reason to be a douche. The poster was asking a simple question. If you don't know the answer, the best thing you can do is not respond.
Kandoo-BB Nov 22, 2012 at 9:06 pm
Your Mamma teach you to talk to femakes that way? What in my post makes me a "douche"? All I did was point out some facts about BB10 and some facts about ios. I didn't call anyone names or insult anyone unlike you...so maybe its best you be quiet the next time you feel like voicing your opinion ,Okay? :) have a nice Thanksgiving Douche...oops I stooped down to your level.

Still no update for me. What carriers are other people using. Mine is a Bell version. Also I'm in eastern Canada if that makes a difference.
automan69 Nov 22, 2012 at 5:10 pm
No update for mine from telus. Do you have to have the sim card in? I don't and just checking by wifi.
rsun Nov 22, 2012 at 5:47 pm
No update for my LTE PlayBook's on Telus, every carrier different :-(
CDM76 Nov 22, 2012 at 10:34 pm
And his will be the NEXT thing people complain about and use as an excuse to hate RIM. Can see it now "The OS is great, but those updates are hit and miss"
If Apple and Google can update their software across the board then RIM needs to be able to do the same. The bar has been raised, lets not merely meet the minimum expectation, lets see RIM go so high over the bar that people forget the bar was even there !!!
Lets make this happen RIM. I know we are all asking a lot of you lately, but we have faith and know you can do it !!!

NFLPLAYBOOK Nov 22, 2012 at 6:14 pm
We're reversed. I have a Bell unlocked with a Telus sim.
NFLPLAYBOOK Nov 22, 2012 at 6:13 pm
Well that covers all three carriers so either it's a regional release or something is very wrong.
GeneralHerzog Nov 22, 2012 at 6:34 pm
ok, well lets try and keep everyone looped as to the regions with the update so far..
I got my update. Rogers and Calgary. As noted previously, my update was 489 megs.
Something to note, my update notice came via my LTE as wifi was turned off BUT I needed wifi to update.
blackcaneaddict Nov 22, 2012 at 9:19 pm
Hopefully the carriers tighten up a little when BB10 gets here. Maybe since BB10 wont bb their first PB ota update anymore they can get it down to 4-5 weeks from the wifi only version Bb10 release.
Any word on the 3g uk model getting their update?
TTune Nov 22, 2012 at 9:36 pm
Here in Vancouver I was able to get my Rogers LTE PlayBook upgraded over WiFi (SIM in, but radio off) - worked like a charm - 484mb.

CDM76 Nov 22, 2012 at 11:30 pm
I fin d with all Telus updates (Calgary/Telus as well) mine are usually a day behind what is posted on this site.
NFLPLAYBOOK Nov 22, 2012 at 10:16 pm
It's not looking good for Telus version playbooks then.
We have 2 confirmed western canada rogers updates.
Still waiting for bell version out west.
Bold_until_Hybrid_Comes Nov 23, 2012 at 1:42 am
Did it work yet? I know you have been patiently waiting more then anyone else. You are the foremost member with the loudest voice about your 4g. I hope it works soon.
NFLPLAYBOOK Nov 23, 2012 at 4:24 am
There's a lot to love about it. Nothing yet but it's still early.
Fun Killer Nov 23, 2012 at 12:18 pm
Does anyone know if RIM has fixed the Yahoo Contacts issue? Still can't download my Yahoo contacts since last wifi update which is killing my fun experience.
bundy5150 Nov 23, 2012 at 1:48 pm
Calgary - Bell
Still no update
NFLPLAYBOOK Nov 23, 2012 at 2:03 pm
Ok so here is the scoop. Bell and Telus version LTE PlayBook users can stop hitting the update button. They have not pushed out the 2.1 update as of yet.
Rogers LTE PlayBook version owners. You should now have your 2.1 update. If you are not getting the update notification and you cannot manually get the update then you should call RIM customer service.
The rest of us should be receiving the update within the next few days. If you get the update on a Bell or Telus version please return and share the information including which version you have.
312 Nov 23, 2012 at 11:27 pm
I spoke with RIM today.
If you're using an unlock PlayBook on a non-original network, you're out of luck for now. You MUST have access to a SIM card from the original carrier's network so that your PlayBook can ping the carrier's server and be flagged to receive the update.
I have a ticket open to get this done without having to do that, but who knows if it'll even happen.
Rootbrian Nov 24, 2012 at 4:56 pm
Gotta blame the carriers and not rim for their lack of updates getting issued and this affecting unlocked playbooks. Damn the carriers!!
NMasood Nov 24, 2012 at 6:07 pm
So, if you do not have a LTE plan with any carriers then you wont get the update?
Alex Tan Nov 25, 2012 at 11:25 am
I have a factory unlocked playbook, so what does this mean for me? I brought the playbook brand new, sealed. I can use any SIM on it.
Alex Tan Nov 25, 2012 at 2:32 pm
just to follow up. I have an unlocked version with a telus sim. I was able to get the update in toronto by swapping my telus sim with a rogers voice only sim. Good luck to everyone.
the brother Nov 26, 2012 at 10:21 am
alex, thanks for this info. can you confirm that the box of your factory unlocked PlayBook was originally from Rogers? please check the side of the box for mention of the original carrier. this could provie the theory that the original carrier micro SIM is indeed a requirement to get this update.
thanks again.
Alex Tan Nov 26, 2012 at 2:29 pm
No, I don't have original carrier info on the box. Mine is factory unlocked I believe.
the brother Nov 26, 2012 at 4:31 pm
either way, looks like your info might have been key to determining the solution :)

xenrobia Nov 27, 2012 at 1:32 pm
I have a Rogers unlocked PlayBook using a Telus SIM and I just downloaded the update via Telus. I don't think where you originally purchased it, has anything to do with it.
the brother Nov 28, 2012 at 5:16 pm
Sweet! i got mines too!!!!!! Bell SIM, unlocked Telus PB, popped in a Rogers NON-active SiM and the update was there? coincidence?? maybe. happy? YES! fo sho!!!!
HabsFan9860 Dec 19, 2012 at 12:33 pm
On Bell here in Ontario, still no dice,,,when I switch over to LTE to check for the update...I always get "There was an error connecting to the update server. Please try again later. (65792)"
...any ideas why I get this message?
..but on 4G only, or Wi Fi...it says I have the latest update installed (2.0.1.668)
BlackBerry Torch OS 7.1 9860
BlackBerry PlayBook Wi Fi OS 2.1.x.xxx
BlackBerry PlayBook LTE OS 2.0.1
